Chapter 62
Guessing that this was the man, he acted like a true gentleman and stepped in front of Stephanie, shielding her.
The gesture only fueled Quennel’s rage.
With a sharp crack, he crushed the wine glass in his hand, shattering it to pieces.
Stephanie used to hide behind him. Now, she was hiding behind someone else.
Quennel demanded, “Stephanie, who is he?”
Everyone had already sensed the strange vibe between them, and now their faces were alight with curiosity.
What was going on?
Did Mr. Gonzalez sound… jealous?
Victoria’s face paled. She grabbed Quennel’s hand. “Quennel, you’re bleeding!”
Quennel ignored her, his eyes locked on Joseph. “Tell me, who is he to you?”
Seeing Quennel on the verge of a breakdown over a man who had almost become her fake husband was amusing, but Stephanie remained composed. “I don’t think that’s any of your business, Mr. Gonzalez.”
“Mr. Gonzalez?” Quennel’s brow furrowed. The formal address felt like a punch to the gut.
She used to call him Quen. Earlier, she’d called him Quennel. Even hearing his full name would have been better than the cold, distant “Mr. Gonzalez.”
Quennel strode over to her. “Who is he to you?
Joseph answered for her. “I’m her husband.”
The air went still.
Both Stephanie and Quennel were stunned by is declaration.
Joseph had only stepped in to defend Stephanie, his sister’s best friend, from being bullied.
Stephanie saw Quennel’s composure crack.
As satisfying as it was, she didn’t want to drag Joseph into this mess.
A colleague whispered, “So he really is Stephanie’s husband.”
“Serena, didn’t you say her husband must be some nobody? But this Mr. Nguyen is quite handsome, very charming.”

Chapter 62
“He’s nothing compared to Mr. Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez is the CEO of Meridian Consortium, a real tycoon. Good looks don’t pay the bills.”
Quennel didn’t hear a word of the chatter.
He grabbed Stephanie’s arm. “You’re coming with me.”
Victoria’s face stiffened as she watched Quennel drag Stephanie away.
She instinctively started to follow, but her colleagues stopped her. “Victoria, what’s going on with your boyfriend and Stephanie? Do they know each other?”
At the question, Victoria’s eyes welled up with tears.
She began her innocent act. “I don’t know. This is the first I’ve heard of it.”
Everyone exchanged glances.
Serena shot to her feet, outraged. “No way! Stephanie has a husband, doesn’t she? Is she trying to seduce your boyfriend behind his back? That woman! I knew she was trouble!”
