His head was lowered as he reviewed documents, long fingers turning pages with effortless precision–every motion strong and controlled. Sunlight streamed through the floor–to- ceiling windows, scattering across him in shifting patterns. Even the smallest movement radiated the quiet dominance of someone born to stand above others.
Lily was stunned–not just by the poised authority he carried now, but by how different he looked.
He’d changed since the last time she saw him. His once fiery red hair had turned black, with a few strands of gold threaded through it. A crimson phoenix–feather mark now glowed faintly on the center of his forehead, mysterious and powerful. Even his pupils had turned black.
Lucien had always been handsome, but now he was something else entirely–more striking. more dangerous, more impossible to look away from.
Dahlia nearly forgot to breathe when she took in the transformation. What happened to Lucie Did he level up? she wondered.
Joseph was the only one still composed, only because he had already witnessed Lucien’s transformation once. Seeing it again no longer shocked him the way it had the first time.
With respectful formality, Joseph addressed the man behind the desk. “Prince Lucien, thank you for saving my partner and Ms. Lily. They came to visit me today. When they heard you were here, they wanted to thank you in person.”
Lily couldn’t help stepping forward at once. “Lucien, have you been doing well? You’ve changed so much. I almost couldn’t believe it was really you.”
If he had accepted her feelings, she would’ve thrown herself at him right then, holding his face in her hands just to look at him properly. How did he get even better–looking than before?
Dahlia took a step forward as well, speaking gently. “Prince Lucien, it’s been a while. You’ve changed a lot.”
As expected from the most talented male Phoenix. Judging from his aura, he’s already leveled up. I just wonder whether the experimental genes the Chitinid wove into him are still there…
Lucien finally raised his head and looked at them. “You’re too kind. Saving lives is simply my duty. If there’s nothing else, you may go.”
At that, he glanced at the time on his lightcore. Why isn’t Emma here yet?
“But you saved us,” Lily said quickly, worried as soon as she heard he wanted them gone. “A favor like that isn’t something we can just brush aside.”

As she spoke, she pulled a small, beautifully crafted box from her storage band. “Lucien, 1 made this to thank you. It’s a scented candle–handmade.”
Among females, giving a handmade gift to a male meant she wanted to pursue him. If the male accepted, it meant he felt the same.
Lucien refused to believe Lily didn’t understand the implication. He shot her a cold look. “I have a huntress. Gifts like this are something my huntress gives me. I don’t need them from others.”
Stung by the rejection, Lily’s expression tightened. She was about to argue when a familiar voice cut in.
“What gift are we talking about?”
Emma entered with Marcus and Malrik.
One glance at Lily and Dahlia was all she spared before walking straight up to Lucien. When he rose from his chair, she wrapped him in an easy, affectionate hug.
“What are you doing here?” Lucien asked, unable to hide the happiness in his eyes.
Didn’t you call me over? You sure can put on a show. Emma smiled. “I missed you. So, here I am.”
