Chapter 617 Plead
“Marshal, I–
“1
A deep, violent crash echoed down the hall.
Before Joseph could even finish his sentence, Calum’s boot sent him flying across the corridor.
The sudden blow stunned Ratford, who ran over in a panic.
“Joseph! Are you okay?”
Joseph coughed up blood, one mouthful after another. His face turned pale. His lips were shaking.
That kick was brutal. Calum had held back nothing. It almost finished him off.
“I… I’m still breathing.”

With Ratford holding him steady, Joseph struggled to stand. His eyes locked on Calum, who was slowly making his way toward them.
“Marshal, we’re here to see Emma.
“You might be my superior. You might be the Marshal of the Empire. But that doesn’t give you the right to speak for her. You can’t stop us from meeting her.”
He had counted on their past connection. Thought he could get Calum to put in a few words. Make Emma soften up.
Get her to let them stay.
Now? That plan was shot.
Calum stared at him, eyes sharp with danger.
“I’m giving you the chance to walk away while I still feel generous. Leave now, and I won’t kill you.
“Stick around, and I’ll crush you both right here.”
Ratford scowled.
“Marshal, we just want a chance to talk to Emma.
“Marcus and Kael made a wager.
“Kael lost. That means we belong to Emma.
“Kael’s already admitted it. That makes us hers.”
Shameless. Absolutely shameless.
“That so–called bet? It was nothing but theater.”
If Emma weren’t up on the cruiser watching, Calum would have torn them apart already.

“You think you can trap my mate with some pathetic scheme? Have you both gone insane?
“I told you to leave.
“Try me again, and I’ll tear you to pieces.”
“Marshal…”

Joseph barely got the words out. “We’re Empire therian. I’m a military commander. We never laid a hand on you. You have no reason to kill us.”
Not even a Marshal could act that recklessly on Central Planet.
Calum let out a cold chuckle.
“You’ve been glued to Dahlia for who knows how long. Who’s to say you didn’t sell out the Empire and join the Chitinid?
“As Marshal, it’s my duty to wipe out traitors. What makes you think I need a permission slip?”
These idiots really thought they could threaten him like they were in grade school?
Ridiculous.
“You-”
Joseph froze. Calum was really throwing all decency out the window.
“Marshal, we’re both Argenclaw, you-”
“Do not mention the Argenclaw name.
Argenclaw means absolutely nothing to me now.”
Calum lifted his boot and slammed it into Joseph’s chest.
This time, Joseph and Ratford went flying together.
Calum stepped forward again, slow and cold–blooded. “Here’s your final shot. Leave… or die.”
Ratford dragged a sleeve across his mouth. Blood smeared his chin. He turned, groaning.
“Let’s just go.”
If they pushed it any further, Calum really would kill them.
He was unhinged.
Now they understood why people called him a brute with no control. Every rumor was true.
Joseph knew that too. He gritted his teeth and gave a stiff nod.
“Fine.”
They pulled each other upright and hobbled toward their cruiser.

Calum stood there, watching.
“You stay the hell away from Emma.
“Try anything again, and I’ll cut you both up and feed you to the beasts.”
Joseph and Ratford both froze for a second. Then they bolted into the cruiser.
Kael sat in the lounge.
He watched the whole thing, face blank.
He knew this was how it would end.
Emma had seen it all from the cruiser’s deck.
Marcus had heard Joseph’s words. He told her why they came.
Emma had no interest in any of them. She was never going to let them stay.
Letting Calum beat them down just made everything simpler.
