Marcus stirred the moment Emma opened her eyes.

“Ms. Tibarn, what’s wrong?”

He pulled her into his arms and rubbed his cheek against hers.

“I can’t fall back asleep.”

“You go back to sleep. I’m just heading over to Lucien’s to check on the little ones.

“I’ll be back in a bit.”

She had already taken a nap on the cruiser.

There was no way she could sleep again.

If she did, she would be wide awake by nightfall.

When Marcus heard she was going to check in, he pulled his hand back without protest.

“Ms. Tibarn, kiss me before you go, please?”

“Alright.”

Emma pressed a firm kiss to his cheek, then tucked the blanket around him.

“Keep sleeping. I’ll come back and lie with you

As soon as she stepped into the elevator, she glanced at the monitor screen. That was when she noticed a male seated on the living room couch.

He wore the Imperial Security Agency uniform and was talking to Silas. Emma could only make out his side profile.

But that profile looked strangely familiar.

She stared at it, trying to remember, but nothing came to her.

Lucien wasn’t in the living room anyway, so she skipped it and went straight to his quarters.

When she got there, Lucien was seated in his study, reading.

“If you’re here to see the kids, you should want to see their father too, right?”

“Of course I do.”

Emma’s hand slid over his chest. She leaned into the seat nook and cupped his face.

“I just figured I’d check on them first. Then I’d give you my full attention.”

Lucien pulled her closer, arm curling around her waist. He lifted his other hand and tapped her forehead with the tip of his finger.

“Shouldn’t it be the other way around? See the father first, then the kids?”

He bent in and bit her lower lip lightly.

“Or did you stop loving their father now that you’ve got the kids?”

“I didn’t! I haven’t-”

Emma shook her head and rushed to explain.
