Chapter 652 When Stubborn Hearts Finally Yield
Emma turned to the others and said, “You all head out first. I’d like a moment with him.”
Letting Drake stay like this wasn’t a real solution. Some things needed to be said outright.
“I’ll go check the kitchen, Emma. Breakfast should be ready soon,” Corvin said, bolting for the door.

The others took one glance at Drake lying on the bed and said nothing. Soon, only Emma and Drake were left in the room.
He still looked a little unwell, though the drug Alaric had given him had brought a hint of color back to his pale face.
“Drake, why didn’t you want to come back with me?” Emma stood by the bedside, looking at him. She already had a guess, but she needed Drake to say it himself.
Only then could anything be solved.
Drake looked at Emma and forced himself upright, leaning against the headboard. His expression carried a bitter edge. “You’ve seen the state I’m in. Emma, I told you–I don’t need your pity.”
“When did I ever say I pitied you?” She shot back. “You’re the one who keeps insisting I pity you. So, tell me properly–how exactly have I pitied you?”
“You…” He pressed his lips together, his face flushing again–whether from anger or embarrassment, she couldn’t tell.
Emma stepped closer and sat at the bedside, meeting his gaze with complete seriousness. “Drake, spit it out. How have I pitied you?”
Seeing that Drake remained silent, Emma nudged his arm lightly. “Come on, say it.”
The gentle push made his body sway, and when he looked at her, his heartbeat suddenly quickened.
If only… If things could stay like this between us. Too bad…
Drake wet his lips before finally speaking. “On the warship–you said you hated me.”
That part he remembered perfectly.
Emma nodded. “I did say that. And I’ll say it again–you really do have a stubborn mouth. It drives me crazy.”
Drake dropped his gaze, biting his lip. If she hated him so much, why bring him back at all?
The way he looked–equal parts upset and aggrieved–made her let out a helpless laugh. “Alright, I’ll stop teasing you.”
She reached out, gently held his chin, and leaned down to brush a kiss across his lips.
The soft, warm touch made Drake’s eyes fly open. He stared at her in disbelief before jerking his head away, slipping free of her hand, unable to face her.
“You don’t have to do this.” His voice was unsteady. “I helped you–not so you’d force yourself to bond with me.”
“Who said I’m forcing myself?” Emma cupped his face, forcing him to look straight into her eyes. “Drake, listen carefully. Nobody can force me. If I don’t want something, even if you saved me ten–a hundred–times, I still wouldn’t do something I don’t want.

“I came after you, I brought you back, because I want to bond with you.” She admitted it without hesitation. “Yes, part of the reason I want to bond with you is that you saved me. But that’s not the whole reason. The rest is simply… because I want to.
“Do you understand? Drake, I want you by my side. I want you as my mate. And you? Are you willing?”
She stared at him seriously. If he dared say no, Emma swore she would walk right out and let him die if that was what he wanted.
Drake’s gaze trembled. “You… You don’t hate me anymore?”
“I never hated you,” Emma answered.
“But you said the first time you saw me-”
“I said that to mess with you–because you were being impossible.” She poked his still–flushed cheek. “You still haven’t answered me. Will you bond with me or not?”
At that, she gave him a fierce glare. “I’m warning you–if you dare say no, you’re done.”
Drake looked at her for one heartbeat, then leaned forward and kissed her. “Whatever you give me–good or bad–I’ll take it.”
Emma smiled at him. “So, you’re not talking tough anymore?”
More color crept across Drake’s face. “Sorry.”
“I don’t want to hear ‘sorry.‘ I’d rather hear you say you like me.” She poked him twice in the chest.
“Mm…” He let out a soft grunt, caught her hand, and looked straight at her. “Are you saying you want to bond right now?”
Once Drake accepted something, he was never the type to hold back.
“Not now.” Emma shook her head. “I’m heading to the Ravaryns‘ with Corvin later. I don’t have the time to bond with you.”
Her gaze drifted slowly over him.
