Alaric fell silent. Isn’t her focus a little off? Compared to where Kieran and I had fought, shouldn’t she be more concerned about whether I had been injured?
Alaric rubbed his chin lightly against Emma’s shoulder hollow, his voice growing even more aggrieved. “Kieran and I didn’t actually fight…”
He paused, his narrow fox–like eyes lifting slightly, a faint mist gathering in them as he complained, “But if I’d refused and insisted on competing with him for it, Kieran definitely would’ve fought me. You know what he’s like, Emma. That guy’s the best actor of them all. He always looks pitiful and easy to bully, but when he makes a move, he’s ruthless.”
As he spoke, he took advantage of the moment to tighten his arms around Emma’s waist. His tone turned low and mournful, tinged with exaggerated misery. “My strength is so pitiful that I could only be threatened by him. Emma… I’m really miserable.”
Emma stared at Alaric’s outrageously dramatic performance and pressed a hand to her forehead in speechless disbelief.
“You’re sure that’s true? Because somehow I don’t believe a word of your nonsense.”
Kieran was indeed powerful, and yes–he could act.
But he had never used force to threaten anyone in the household. There was no way he would suddenly start doing that just because Alaric had arrived.
Having his lie exposed directly to his face didn’t make Alaric the slightest bit embarrassed. Instead, he simply smiled, his eyes curving in amusement. “Knew you wouldn’t believe me. Smart female. I couldn’t even fool you.”
Emma rolled her eyes and pinched the soft flesh at his waist. “Stop messing around and tell me the truth. How exactly did Kieran convince you to agree?”
Alaric caught her hand and placed it against his chest. Leaning close to her ear, he lowered his voice mysteriously. “Kieran and I made a deal. This time, I generously gave him tonight’s opportunity. In exchange, when it’s his turn next time, he has to give that time to me.”
Alaric smiled at her.
‘That way, combined with my original turn, I’ll get to stay with you for two days straight. When the time comes, I’ll take you out somewhere fun. Two days and two nights–no one bothering us. When you think about it, it’s a pretty good deal, isn’t it?”
No wonder he had agreed to Kieran’s request. Looking at it that way, Alaric had definitely gotten the better end of the bargain.
Emma watched him, smiling happily, her eyes shifting as her gaze slowly dropped to the bath towel tied precariously around his waist, a mischievous smile curled across her lips.
Before Alaric could react, she suddenly reached out, grabbed the towel at his waist, and yanked it down with a sharp tug.
With a soft whoosh, the towel fell to the floor.
Emma had originally expected to see Alaric panic–flustered, face flushed red, hurriedly covering himself in embarrassment. Instead, the moment the towel dropped, the grin on Emma’s face froze solid.
The therian was still wearing a pair of black boxer briefs underneath!

Emma stared in disbelief at the underwear, then at the towel on the floor, and finally looked up at Alaric with an utterly speechless expression.
“You… why are you still wearing underwear when you’re about to take a shower?”
Who the hell wears underwear while showering?
Alaric blinked innocently and spread his hands. “Because I hadn’t started showering yet. I had just taken off my clothes and was about to take those off when I heard your footsteps.”
He continued, completely justified, “I was worried that if you saw me naked, you’d call me a pervert or say I was shamelessly trying to seduce you. So, to protect my pure image in your eyes, I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself first.”
He genuinely hadn’t expected Emma to yank the towel off.
As he looked at her, something hit him, and he leaned slightly closer, his gaze locking onto hers. A teasing smile curved across his lips as his voice dropped into a low, intimate tone. “What’s wrong? Disappointed that you didn’t see what you wanted after pulling my towel off?”
His long fingers rested against the waistband of his black boxers and hooked lightly under the fabric, his gaze turning slow and suggestive. “If you want to see… I can take them off right now.”
Emma immediately grabbed his hand. “No. I don’t want to!”
She had only meant to play a prank–to see what the fox looked like when he got shy and flustered. She definitely hadn’t actually wanted to see anything.
Alaric lowered his eyes and looked at her hand still gripping his. The corners of his lips lifted faintly, laughter dancing in his fox–like eyes. “You don’t want to look… You want to experience it yourself, then.”
Emma yanked her hand away immediately and denied it. “I didn’t, I wasn’t, stop making things up!”
But it was hard to believe she genuinely didn’t mean it like that.
“Alright, I made it all up,” Alaric said with a smile, nodding cooperatively. He stepped closer to Emma and took the hand she had just pulled away. “No need to explain, Emma. I understand everything.”
He lowered his head slightly, warm breath brushing against the sensitive curve of her ear. His voice turned huskier, carrying an indescribable magnetism and amusement, while his fox–like eyes gleamed with indulgent laughter.
