Chapter 828 An Unusual Duo
Those two simply went against all odds.
After saying that, Lucien tried to sit up.
“I think I look a bit of a mess. I should go take a shower and change my clothes.”

He didn’t want Emma to see him like this. A male should always present himself neatly in front of a female, otherwise he might be
disliked.
Of course, Lucien knew Emma wouldn’t think that way. Still, he couldn’t allow himself to appear so disheveled in front of her.
Seeing him try to get up, Emma immediately pressed him back down, her eyes full of concern.
“Don’t move. Just lie back down and sleep.”
“You were up all night. What shower are you talking about?”
If it were her, after staying up all night, she wouldn’t even bother with a shower. She could fall asleep anywhere, even on the floor.
Appearance didn’t matter at all compared to sleep.
Emma lowered her head and kissed his lips. “It’s okay. I like you no matter what you look like.”
She knew exactly what he was thinking.
“I love all of you–the good, the bad, the beautiful, the messy. Even if you turned into a little coal ball, I’d still love you. You don’t need to feel pressured in front of me. Just be as comfortable and as happy as you want.”
The soft warmth on his lips made Lucien stiffen slightly.
The arm he had been using to push himself up instantly lost its strength. Something in his heart was struck, leaving it completely
soft.
‘Even a coal ball version of me… You’d still like it?”
That was so ugly. Even he disliked it himself.
Lucien gulped slightly. He followed Emma’s pull and sank back onto the bed.
Then, he lifted a hand and gently brushed her cheek with his fingertips. He didn’t respond to the kiss with intensity, only lingered at the corner of her lips in a slow, affectionate touch.
“Emma,” he murmured softly, his breath falling against her neck, his tone carrying a rare exhaustion. “Since you’ve said that much, then I’m really going to stay down and not get up.”
He closed his eyes and buried his face in her neck, taking in her faint, sweet scent deeply.
At that moment, exhaustion crashed over him like a tide, but the earlier sense of embarrassment was gone–replaced by a steady, grounding sense of being held.
“Those little cubs are really too much. Taking care of them is more exhausting than fighting a war.”

“I know. You’ve worked hard.”
Emma turned slightly and lay down beside him, gently resting his head on her shoulder.
With one hand, she combed through his slightly messy hair, her movements slow and soothing, like calming a large, exhausted beast.
With her other hand, she lightly patted his back in a steady rhythm.
Listening to his breathing gradually even out and deepening, Emma didn’t get up immediately. She quietly watched his sleeping face.
After about another fifteen minutes, once she was sure he had fallen into a deep sleep, she carefully shifted her body.
She gently pulled the blanket over him, covering his tall frame completely, even his broad shoulders.
When she got off the bed, even the sound of her footsteps was kept to an absolute minimum.
At the door, Emma paused and looked back once.
Morning light filtered through the window, falling softly across the bed where Lucien slept soundly.
She smiled gently, then quietly closed the door, shutting out all noise from the outside world.
After leaving Lucien’s room, Emma went to check on Calum.
Calum’s door was closed, but it didn’t matter–Emma could still enter.
She pushed the door open gently. The moment she stepped inside, she saw Calum sprawled on the bed, sleeping in a completely unrestrained, ungraceful posture.
Perhaps because he trusted her completely, or perhaps because he was simply too exhausted.
Seeing how soundly Calum was sleeping, Emma didn’t disturb him and quietly left the room.
Next, she went up to the fifth floor to check on Marcus and Jim.
When she arrived at Jim’s door, she thought about the room’s layout and took several deep breaths. She even spent about a full minute mentally preparing herself. In the end, she turned around and went to Marcus‘ door instead.
Forget it–she’d check on Marcus first.
That room really had too much of an eerie feeling. Her mental resilience clearly wasn’t strong enough yet.
She would go wake Marcus up first, then drag him along to check on Jim together.
