Just the thought of a future where a whole bunch of mini versions of himself filled the house–crying loudly in unison–while he dragged his exhausted body around trying to comfort each one…
Marcus felt like everything went black. Life suddenly seemed dull and meaningless.
Having pups? Not happening in this lifetime.
Emma bit him again. “Pick one? That’s not how I do things. I’m greedy–I want both. Just accept your fate.”
She had felt a bit bad for how worn out he was from the night before, but after he annoyed her, that sympathy completely
vanished.
“Alright, quit pretending.” She grabbed Marcus and pulled him to his feet. “Come with me to check on Jim.“”
The moment he heard they were heading to Jim’s room–the one that looked like a funeral parlor, cold and eerie–Marcus resisted with every ounce of strength.
But He knew Emma was a little afraid of that place and wouldn’t dare go alone.
So he got up obediently and casually picked up a robe, draping it over her shoulders.
“His room is cold and gloomy. Put this on, Ms. Tibarn. Don’t catch a chill.”
Emma smiled, wrapping the robe tighter around herself, then quickly leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.
“That’s better.”
Marcus was at a loss for words. Now he really didn’t want to go to Jim’s room–he just wanted to stay here and hold her.
“One more kiss, Ms. Tibarn.”
Marcus was the type to push his luck. “One on this side too–it has to be even.”
Emma didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. She shouldn’t have kissed him at all. Still, she indulged him and gave him another peck. Only then did Marcus look satisfied and follow her out.
They arrived at Jim’s door. Standing in front of it, which seemed to emit a faint chill, Emma couldn’t help but shrink her neck slightly.
She stared at the tightly shut door and instinctively edged closer to Marcus. Lowering her voice, she whispered, “Marcus, do you think Jim’s asleep? He was up all night. If I knock now, won’t that disturb him? Maybe I should come back later.”
Emma admitted it–she was a coward.
For someone who could watch a horror movie and then be too scared to sleep alone for an entire month, this situation was far too much.
Marcus glanced at her and said quietly, “He’s not asleep. He went out earlier–probably just got back.”
Emma was speechless. This guy had absolutely no sense of timing.

Before Emma could come up with another excuse to retreat, Marcus had already raised his hand and knocked on the door.
The sound echoed clearly through the empty hallway. Very soon, the door was pulled open without a sound.
Before Emma could even get a proper look at Jim, a cold gust of air rushed toward her. She shivered instinctively and rubbed her arms vigorously.
Jim stood in the shadows, his black clothing almost blending completely into the darkness of the room. Having stayed up all night, his complexion was slightly pale, giving him a cold, almost ethereal beauty as he stood at the doorway.
When he saw Emma standing there, he was clearly a little surprised. Ignoring Marcus beside her, Jim spoke to Emma first. “Do you need something?”
Seeing him, Emma quickly smiled and said, “I heard you were busy all night taking care of those two little ones, so I came to check
on you.”
At her words, Jim lowered his eyelashes slightly, hiding the faint trace of exhaustion in his eyes.
He stepped aside and spoke again. “I haven’t slept. Do you want to come in and sit?”
‘It’s alright!” Emma waved her hands quickly, speaking so fast as if she was afraid she’d be dragged inside if she hesitated for even a second.
‘I just came to see you. You worked all night, and you definitely need some quiet rest. I won’t come in and disturb you.”
After saying that, she looked at Jim. In the end, she couldn’t help but ask, “Jim, do you really like this room?”
Jim looked at her without speaking. After thinking for a moment, Emma added, “If you simply prefer goth interiors, I can help
