Chapter 831 The Room No One Dared Enter
Jim thought, So this is what a room for the dead looks like.
His clan had never followed such customs, so he had not known.
He looked at Emma once more, his expression serious. “So it’s not that you dislike it. You’re afraid of it?”
Emma had been reading too easily. She nodded without trying to hide it. “Yeah. A little.”

Marcus immediately cut in, “Who wouldn’t be scared of your room? It’s a perfectly decent room, and you turned it into a funeral parlor You’re probably the only person who can sleep in there. Every time I knock on your door, I feel like some ghost hand is going to shoot through the crack and drag me inside.”
Even after Marcus mocked him so openly, Jim’s face barely changed. He considered that if Emma was afraid, then the room had to be changed.
He lowered his gaze, looked at Emma, and spoke in his usual calm tone, “Then, I’ll have Corvin redo it.”
He could change the style and switch to different colors. There was no reason for the room to remain black. To him, a room was merely a place to sleep, and as long as there was a bed, that sufficed. It was simply a room, nowhere near as important as Emma.
The moment Emma and Marcus heard that he still wanted Corvin involved, they both reacted at once, waving their hands in alarm.
“No!”
“Absolutely not!” Emma rushed to prevent him. “You must not allow Corvin to touch it again. He’s truly unreliable.”
Marcus looked even more horrified. “He already turned your room into this nightmare, and you still want him to do more? You think it isn’t creepy enough yet?”
He swept his eyes around the room, then immediately thought of the way Corvin’s brain worked.
“Corvin only understands mechs and warships. Seriously, if you let him redecorate again, it’ll become the deepest level of Hell. Ms. Tibarn won’t even hazard passing your door–she’ll take the long way around.”
Jim fell silent.
Marcus looked at him, lifted a brow, and grinned. “Forget everyone else. If you trust me, let me handle it.”
Jim looked up at Marcus. The hesitation in his eyes was evident, even though his face stayed composed. “You can do it?”
Honestly, he believed Marcus was even more unreliable than Corvin.
Marcus snorted. “What kind of look is that? You seriously don’t believe me?”
His voice was filled with confidence. “It’s just decorating a room. It’s not some life–or–death mission. Of course I can do it.”
He lifted a hand and gestured toward the room. “Even if my result isn’t great, it can’t be any worse than this.”
At the very least, Emma would dare step inside afterward.
She had almost volunteered to decorate it herself. Her taste was not especially notable, but still much better than Corvin’s.

When she noticed how eager Marcus looked, she held the words back. This half–dead man rarely ever volunteers for anything on his own. Fine. If he wants to do it, I’ll let him.
If it turns out truly awful, I can always fix it myself later. As long as Jim can still sleep properly, it’s not a big deal.
Jim hesitated briefly before nodding. “Then, I’ll leave it to you.”
After that, he took out a Level 10 insect core and handed it to Marcus. “Your pay.”
Among the men in the house, anyone who worked was paid. That had always been their rule, so Emma did not interfere.
Marcus accepted the insect core and gave Jim a rare, genuinely pleasant smile. “Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
The next second, he pushed the insect core straight into Emma’s hand. “Ms. Tibarn, here.”
He clearly did not dare keep any private funds.
Emma was speechless.
She did not accept it and returned it to him instead. “You earned it. Keep it.”
She had everything she needed now. Insect cores and beast cores were no longer her main concerns.
Once the matter of Jim’s room had been settled, Emma noticed it was nearly time for breakfast, so she headed downstairs first.
Before leaving, she asked whether Marcus and Jim wanted to eat.
Both of them refused.
Marcus answered first, “I’m redoing Jim’s room, so I’m skipping breakfast. Nutrient fluid is enough.”
Jim followed with a tired voice. “I want to sleep. I’m not eating.”
He had stayed awake all night and even went out earlier to fight Andre. At that moment, he felt as if he could collapse where he stood and fall asleep immediately.
Emma did not press them. She merely nodded and went downstairs alone.
