Chapter Thirty Two

TWENTY MINUTES AGO

“Thank you for agreeing to come with me tonight, Bree.” Marcus said with a warm smile as they settled into their seats. He had asked Amber out on a date this morning and she agreed to come with him.

“I should be the one thanking you Marc. I really needed this” Amber replied with a soft smile. “Besides, it’s the only way I can make up for the other night.”

Marcus couldn’t help but keep staring at her. She wore a sleek black gown that hugged her slender figure perfectly, accentuating her curves in just the right way. One strap rested elegantly on her right shoulder, leaving the other bare and showing off her smooth skin. She looked really lovely tonight. Even men who came with their own dates couldn’t help but steal glances.

“What are you staring so intensely at me for?” Amber blushed, taking a sip from the glass in front of her. Not that she was tasty, she just needed something to make her feel like herself again.

Marcus smiled. “You just look lovely and perfect tonight.”

“This is how I look everyday Marc. What’s so special about tonight?”

Marcus broke into a smile. “I mean it Bree. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever set my eyes on.”

Amber cheeks turned even redder from his words. “You sure do know what to say to make a woman blush.”

“I’m only speaking the truth. And I’m pretty sure every man in this room agrees with me.”

Amber chuckled and glanced around. True enough, she caught a few men sneaking glances her way, which only made her blush harder.

Just then, a waiter approached them and dropped a plate on their table.

Amber frowned. “I’m sorry but we didn’t ord-”

Her words caught in her throat when the waiter lifted the plate and a black box came into view.

Amber throat went dry. Her heart started beating twice faster at the realization of what this might be.

As if to confirm her thoughts, Marcus stood from his seat and dropped on one knee. He reached for the box and opened it, revealing a dazzling diamond ring that glittered under the soft glow of the restaurant.

Amber felt tears rush to her eyes at the sight of the very gorgeous ring.

She opened her mouth to say something but words failed her. At this point, she could see other guest standing on their feet and bringing out their phones to take pictures.

“Words can’t begin to describe how much my heart yearns for you, Bree. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but I was waiting for the right moment. And after last night, I realized I couldn’t wait any longer.”

“I can’t imagine a world without you by my side. You’re the woman of my dreams and I want to spend the rest of my live proving that to you. I promise to cherish you and always make you smile.”

He looked up at her with love shining in his eyes.

“Amber… will you marry me?”
