Chapter Thirty

DAYS LATER

AT THE PACK HOUSE

Damon was inside his study, reading a document when his door flew open and Moore stormed in.

Jake ran in right after him.

“I’m sorry, Alpha. I tried to stop him.” Jake said, bowing slightly.

“It’s okay, Jake. You can go back now.” Damon replied calmly, not looking up from his papers.

Jake hesitated, casting one last glare at Moore before stepping out and closing the door behind him.

“To what do I owe this visit, Moore?” Damon asked, frowning as he flipped to the next page.

“Is that anyway to greet your in–law, Damon?” Moore answered with a frown.

“The last time I checked, I was still the Alpha of this pack,” Damon said coldly. “And you will address me as such, IN–LAW OR NOT.”

“Are you kidding me? You’d dare command me to address you by your title? What has come over you?” Moore barked.

“If you have nothing to say. I suggest you leave. As you can see, I’m working.”

“What the hell has gotten into you, Damon? You’ve changed so much these past months! You barely talk to your wife anymore, and you won’t let me visit. Even today, I had to force my way in because your Gamma refused to let me through!”

“As you can see, Moore,” Damon repeated flatly, “I’m quite busy.”

“Busy?” Moore scoffed. “Is that why you don’t talk to your wife anymore?”

“What wife?”

“Come on, Damon. Are you married to anyone else beside Bella.”

“That’s not my wife. I already have a wife.”

“What wife? That same bitch who killed Richard Cross and ran away?”

“Enough!” Damon roared, slamming his hand on the desk and looking at Moore for the first time since he stepped into the room. “Amber is my wife and you will treat her with respect.”

“Respect?” Moore sneered. “You should be ashamed of yourself. That woman murdered your father. You should be putting her ass behind bars, not calling her your wife.”

“If you keep disrespecting Amber in my presence, I suggest you turn around and get the hell out of my room,” Damon warned, his tone low and dangerous.

Moore ignored him. “It’s time you stop chasing that girl and focus on your real wife. You and Bella have been married six years and have no child to show for it!”

“Incase you haven’t realize Moore, I have a daughter and I love her mode than anything.”

“You mean that little thing you conceived with that bitch of a mother? She doesn’t count, Damon. You need a real child with Bella. Why haven’t you been sleeping with her?”

Damon frowned in disgust. “So now she’s discussing our sex life with you? How revolting. Tell your daughter this for me… I will never have a child with her. Bringing one into this world with her would be a curse on that child.”

“How dare you, Damon! You will treat my daughter with respect!” Moore shouted. “She’s done nothing but love you!”

“Love me?” Damon scoffed. “If she loved me, she would have treated my daughter as her own. Instead, she beats her and punishes her whenever I’m not around. How dare you call that love?”

“And don’t even get me started on what she did to Amber… poisoning her while she was pregnant. What kind of woman does that?”

“The kind who would do anything to protect her man!” Moore snapped. “Can’t you see how much Bella loves you? You’d throw that away for a woman who murdered your father?”

“Amber didn’t kill my father and you know it,” Damon said his voice cold as steel. “And yes, I’d still choose her over your daughter, even with my eyes closed.”

“I forbid you from going back to that bitch!‘

“And I should obey you because?”

“Because I’m your father–in–law.”

Damon let out a dry laugh. “Not for long. It won’t be long now before I get my wife back. And once I do, I’ll ask Bella for a divorce and move on with my life.”

“What? You wouldn’t dare!”

“Oh, I would.” Damon’s voice dropped to a calm, deadly tone. “Now, if you have nothing else to say, I suggest you leave my study.”

Moore’s fists clenched, but he said nothing. After a tense silence, he turned toward the door.

Just before leaving, he muttered darkly,

“You’ll regret this, Alpha.”

Then he stormed out, slamming the door shut behind him.
