Oops! My Whirlwind Tycoon Husband Is the Guy from That Night? novel Chapter 9

Meanwhile, back at the Lavender Isle Café, Zoe was still waiting for Quentin.

Two hours had passed since the scheduled meeting time. Zoe hadn't seen Quentin, and she hadn't seen Sonia either.

When Laura set up the dates, she had deliberately booked them at the same café so that Sonia's presence would highlight Zoe's perfection.

Sitting a two-hundred-pound woman next to Zoe was meant to make Zoe look like an absolute goddess.

Zoe glared around the empty café. The crushing disappointment of Quentin standing her up mixed with toxic fury.

Needing a punching bag, she called Sonia. "Hey, Miss Piggy. Why aren't you at the café yet?"

"Zoe, my business is none of your damn concern," Sonia shot back effortlessly.

Zoe scoffed, her voice dripping with extreme superiority. "Are you terrified of seeing me? It's fine, I completely get it. Since I'm so gorgeous, a fat cow like you would obviously feel insecure standing next to me."

Sonia let out a dry laugh. "I'm more worried that if we stood next to each other, you'd realize how pathetic you actually are."

Zoe burst into a loud, mocking shriek. "Sonia, listen to yourself! When did you get so delusional? You look like a literal pig. Why the hell would I ever feel insecure around you? That is hilarious."

"I know you're completely shallow and ignorant," Sonia replied calmly, "but clearly you've never heard the phrase, 'people change'."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means you're both stupid and malicious. You're a maggot who thinks the whole world is a cesspool."

Without waiting for a response, Sonia hung up the phone.

Zoe's fury instantly boiled over, leaving her screaming into a dead line.

...

The second Sonia walked into the office, her boss immediately jumped up from his desk. His body was shaped like a bowling ball with legs, his massive stomach threatening to pop the buttons straight off his tight dress shirt.

He waddled over to Sonia, a sickeningly eager smile plastered on his face. His already tiny eyes squinted into slits as he checked his watch. It was 10:00 AM.

"Sonia! I thought you had the day off. What brings you in?"

"I have no hobbies," Sonia replied flatly. "I hate being a slave to the system, but I love being a slave to the dollar."

"Oh, come on, are you really that strapped for cash?" Mr. Warner chuckled.

Sonia dropped into her chair and locked eyes with him, her gaze sharp. "Yes. When are the bonuses and commissions being paid? They're ten days late."

"I've got money," Warner boasted, puffing out his chest. "Plenty of it."
