Chapter 165 *
Angelina’s POV
No problem, Marquis said. He turned his attention to me. His expression got serious. “Can we talk? Just you and me. One minute.”
1 looked at Jen and Maya. Wait here.”
“Okay, Maya said.
Marquis walked a few steps away. Out of earshot. I followed.
When we were far enough, he turned to face me. Lowered his voice.
“We need you tonight. Cage 13.
1 crossed my arms. “I’m not fighting tonight.”
“Hear me out, Redwood Pack is bringing someone. A ringer. Guy named Theodore. Fifty wins. Zero losses. Absolutely brutal.”
“And?
“And none of us can take him. Friedrich is getting old, Wolfgang’s shoulder is still healing from his last fight. I just went three rounds. I’m
exhausted.”
He paused. Met my eyes directly.
“You’re the only one who has a real shot. These Redwood assholes have been talking shit for months. We need someone to shut them up.”
I shook my head. “Not interested.”
Marquis blinked. “What? But you love Cage 13. You’ve fought there dozens of times.”
“That was before.”
“Before what?”
14%
“Before I had other priorities.”
I could see the confusion on his face. He genuinely didn’t understand.
“Look,” I said. “I’m here for the military selection. That’s it. I’m not getting involved in pack politics. Not getting involved in Cage 13 drama. I just need to pass my assessment and leave.”
Marquis stared at me. “You’re serious.”
“Yes.
“But this is a major fight. Big money. Big reputation. This is the kind of light people talk about for years.”

Chapter 165*
“Good for them. 111 be fighting in Cage $ “
His eyes went even wider. “Cage 87 That’s just sparring evaluation. That’s not even real fighting
Friedrich and Wolfgang had moved closer. Close enough to hear now.
Friedrich looked shocked. “Cage $7 But why? You could dominate Cage 13,
Wolfgang nodded. “Ja. Cage & is for beginners. For candidates trying to show basic skills. Not for someone like you.”
I looked at all three of them. “Cage 8 is all I need. It’s part of the military selection. I pass that. I’m done here.”
Marquis ran his hand over his face. ‘I don’t understand. You’re the best fighter I’ve ever seen. Why would you limit yourself to Cage 8?”
Because I’m not trying to be the best fighter here. I’m trying to pass a military assessment.“
But you could make serious money tonight. Theodore’s backers are putting up fifty thousand. Winner takes all.”
“Not interested.”
Friedrich stepped forward. “Angelina, please. Think about it. This Theodore, he is bad news. Very aggressive. Very dangerous. He will hurt
people if no one stops him.”
Then call in someone else.”
“There is no one else!” Marquis’s voice rose slightly. “You think we haven tried? Everyone who’s good enough is either injured, retired, or
already booked.”
Wolfgang added. “And the ones who are available took one look at Theodore’s record and said no. Nobody wants to fight him.”
I didn’t respond. Just stood there.
Marquis tried again. His voice softer now. “Look, I know you ve got your reasons. But this isn’t just about money or reputation. These Redwood Pack guys have been causing problems. Starting fights outside the cage. Intimidating other fighters. Someone needs to put them in their place.”
“That someone isn’t me. Not tonight.”
Friedrich looked disappointed. Wolfgang shook his head slowly.
Marquis sighed. “Okay, I get it. You’ve got your own thing going on.”
“Yeah”
But if you change your mind, the offer stands. Fights at eight tonight. Cage 13.
“I won’t change my mind.”
“Alright.” He looked over at Jen and Maya. “What about your friends? You want us to show them some basics?”
I nodded. “Yeah. Give them an overview. Show them how to stand. How to protect themselves. Nothing too advanced.”

Chapter 165.
We can do that, Friedrich said “How much time do we have?
I checked my watch. Forty minutes before I need them back.
Forty minutes, Wolfgang repeated. “We can work with that.”
Marquis gestured toward len and Maya. Come on. We’ll take you to the training room.”
Jen and Maya walked over. Both still looking nervous.
“Where are you going? Maya asked me.
Personal business. I’ll catch up with you later.”
Ten frowned. “You’re leaving us with them?”
They won’t hurt you. Just pay attention and learn.”
Marquis smiled. Trying to look friendly. “Don’t worry. We’ll take good care of you.”
Friedrich nodded enthusiastically. “Ja! We will teach you how to punch properly. How to avoid getting hit. Very useful skills.”
Wolfgang added. “And maybe some basic grappling if we have time.”
Maya looked at me. Her expression uncertain. “You’re sure about this?”
“Yes. You’ll be fine.”
I turned to Marquis. Met his eyes. “Keep them safe. Don’t push them too hard. They’re not fighters.”
“I got it,” Marquis said. “Just observation and basies. Nothing crazy.”
“Good.”
“How do you know these guys anyway?”
Marquis opened his mouth. “She’s a regular here. Fought in Cage 13 multiple times. Absolutely destroyed everyone who-
I shot him a look. Hard. Direct.
He stopped talking mid-sentence. His eyes went wide. He understood immediately.
“I mean,” he said quickly. “We, uh… we met at a-
I cut in. My voice calm. “They run self-defense workshops. My dad sent me to one last summer. Wanted me to learn how to protect myself.”
Jen’s expression cleared. “Oh! That makes sense.”
Maya nodded. “That’s actually smart. Self-defense is important.”
