Chapter 87 *
Angelina’s POV
“I said no. I’m not giving you that link.”
“Why not? Come on, it’s just a language website-”
“I’m not helping you with this. I stood up. “Drop it, Leo.”
I could feel Caelan’s gaze burning into the side of my face. But when I glanced at him, his expression showed nothing. No surprise. No suspicion.
Just that same calm, assessing look.
Like he’d already known.
Leo was still talking. “Sis, seriously, what’s the big deal? It’s just-”
“I said no.”

I walked past Caelan into the house. He didn’t move, didn’t say anything. Just watched me go.
My mind was racing. The darknet. The Raven Court. Leo had seen me access it in the hospital. And now he’d described it in front of Caelan-an Alpha who definitely knew what that symbol represented.
But Caelan could never find out about my rebirth. That was impossible. Unless there was something I didn’t know. Some piece of information I
was missing.
I decided not to think about it anymore. Speculation without facts was useless.
I went straight to my room and stayed there. Only came out for dinner, then went back upstairs immediately after.
The next morning, I came downstairs with a small duffel bag.
Mom was in the kitchen making breakfast. The smell of scrambled eggs and toast filled the house. Dad sat at the table reading something on
his phone. Ethan was already gone-he started work at six.
Leo was still asleep upstairs.
“Morning, sweetheart,” Mom said. She glanced at my bag. “Going somewhere?”
“Yeah. Logan invited me to his family’s lake house for a few days. Just a small Thanksgiving break thing before the actual holiday.”
Mom’s face lit up. “Oh, that’s wonderful! You should go, have fun with your friends.”
She started her usual checklist immediately.
“Do you have enough clothes? It might be cold by the lake at night. Did you pack a warm jacket? And toiletries? Don’t forget your toothbrush. Oh, and make sure you thank Logan’s parents for having you. That’s very land of them to include you.”

“I know, Mom.”
“And text me every day, okay? Just so I know you’re safe. If you need anything, you call right away. Do you have your charger?”
“Yes, Mom.

Dad looked up from his phone. He didn’t say anything, just gave me a small nod. His way of saying be careful.
Mom was still going. “What time is Logan picking you up? Do you want me to make you some sandwiches for the drive? It’s a long way to the
lake-
“Mom, I’m fine. I’ve got everything.” I walked over and gave her a quick hug. “I’ll be back in a few days. Don’t worry.”
She hugged me back tight. “I know, I know. I just want you to be safe.”
“I will be.”
I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.
“Have fun, honey!” Mom called after me.
“Bye, Mom. Bye, Dad.”
I walked out, closing the door behind me.
The street was quiet. I walked two blocks, turned left, walked another block, then turned right.
The black Bentley was waiting exactly where it was supposed to be.
I grabbed my bag with one hand and opened the rear door. Slid into the backseat without hesitation.
There was only one person in the back. A young Asian guy, maybe early twenties. Black hair styled perfectly. He had one of those faces that
belonged in a business school catalog-handsome, refined, clean-cut.
Nothing like his father.
Victor Wu looked like he’d crawled out of a nightmare-brutal, scarred, the kind of face that made people cross the street. This kid looked like
he spent his weekends playing tennis at a country club.
Up front, a driver in a dark suit kept his eyes straight ahead.
I shut the door and the car started moving.
The kid turned to me with a polite smile. “Hi, I’m Daniel. You must be-”
“You don’t need to know who I am.” I cut him off. “Your life is in my hands now. I’ll make sure you get back to your father in one piece. That’s
all you need to know.”
Daniel frowned. He clearly hadn’t expected that.

We drove in silence to the airport. Victor had already booked first-class tickets.
The flight to Casper, Wyoming took about two and a half hours.
Daniel tried asking if I wanted to get food when we landed, I said no.
A car was waiting for us at the airport. Another professional driver, another black luxury sedan. We headed straight for the venue.
“So, um,” Daniel started as we drove through Casper’s streets. “Have you been to Wyoming before?*
“No.”
“It’s pretty isolated out here. Cold this time of year too. I grew up in California, so this weather always gets to me.”
I didn’t respond.
Daniel seemed to realize I wasn’t interested in conversation. He looked out his window.
