Chapter 27
Nicolai
“The shipment cleared customs without issue,” Dimitri says, standing at attention across from my desk. My Beta since we were eighteen, he’s one of the few wolves I trust implicitly. “Eastern port, like you said. No inspections.”
“Good.” I sign off on the manifest without looking up. Weapons, mostly. Some pharmaceuticals the capital likes to pretend don’t exist. Standard Tuesday. “And the situation with the Morozov pack?”
“Handled. They’ve agreed to our terms. The Alpha took some convincing.” Dimitri’s tone is dry.
I lean back in my chair, finally meeting his eyes. Dimitri’s face is carefully neutral, which means the ” convincing” was probably unpleasant. I don’t ask for details. That’s why I have him.
We don’t call ourselves a pack. We’re a family. The Family, to be precise. And I run it.
Everyone else around me exists to do my bidding, even my Beta and best friend. Dimitri knows where his boundaries are.
“Good. Then we’re done here.”
Dimitri moves toward the door, then pauses with his hand on the handle. “Sofia’s here again, asking to see you.”
Sofia. Tall, blonde, enthusiastic. We spent a few hours together last month at a gathering in the capital. She made it clear she was available for a repeat performance.
I glance at the contracts still waiting on my desk and groan. There’s a territorial dispute that needs resolution. Then I need to prep for the meeting with the council elders scheduled for tomorrow. Maybe a little “stress relief” is exactly what I need.
“Send her in,” I say.
Dimitri’s expression doesn’t change. He just nods and leaves to do as I asked.
Sofia enters a minute later, wearing a dress that’s more suggestion than fabric. Her jasmine perfume fills the room-cloying, expensive, trying too hard.
“Nicolai.” She smiles, the kind of smile women give when they think they’re special. “I was hoping you’d
have time for me.”
“Close the door.” I bark.
She does, then crosses the room, still smiling. But I don’t waste time with niceties.
“On your knees,” I tell her.
She complies immediately, sinking down in front of my chair. Her fingers work at my belt with eager efficiency, and I lean back, closing my eyes. Her mouth closes around my cock and my mind goes

Sofia’s technique is fine, her mouth hot and wet, her throat tight as I fist her hair and shove her down on my length. Tears are running down her cheeks and the sound of her gagging has a thrill of pleasure running down my spine. She’ll get me there and that’s all that matters.
When this is over, she’ll expect me to ask her to stay, to offer dinner or conversation or some indication that this meant something. My power, my wealth, my family name, have them all clamoring for a way to
stay by my side.
But I’ll send her away instead.
I always do.
I finish with a grunt, my hand fisting in her blonde hair. She pulls back with a satisfied smile, wiping her mouth delicately.
“Should I-”
“No.” I’m already tucking myself back into my pants, reaching for the contracts on my desk. “Dimitri will
show you out.”
The smile falters. “I thought maybe we could-”
“We’re done here, Sofia.”
Her expression shifts through hurt to anger to resignation in the space of three seconds. She’s not surprised. They never are, really. But they always hope.
“Of course.” She stands, smoothing her dress with shaking hands. “It was… nice seeing you again,
Nicolai.”
I don’t respond. I’m already reading the contract, making notes in the margin.
She leaves without another word.
The door clicks shut behind her, and I’m alone again in the silence of my office. Just how I prefer it.
