Chapter 33
Jaxon
“She went to breakfast at the café on Main Street. Walked through town for about an hour. Came straight
back.”
I look up from the reports on my desk to where my guard, Collin, stands at attention, delivering his surveillance update like it’s routine pack business instead of reporting to a crazy man who is having his own wife followed.
“That’s it?” I ask. “She didn’t meet with anyone? Make any calls? Are you absolutely sure?”
“None that I observed, Alpha. And she was never out of my sight.” He shifts his weight. “She seemed… normal. Just having breakfast alone.”
Normal. The word grates against something in my chest.
“Fine. Dismissed.” I grumble as I wave him off.
Collin leaves, and I’m left alone with the uncomfortable knowledge that I just had someone tail Skye through town like a stalker with absolutely nothing to show for it.
No secret meetings. No suspicious contacts. Just my wife having breakfast by herself because apparently she’d rather eat alone than share a table with me in our own home.
Though it’s not just you she’s sharing a table with anymore, is it? And whose fault is that? My subconscious supplies helpfully.
My wolf paces restlessly beneath my skin, agitated in a way I can’t explain. There’s no threat here. No territorial challenge. Skye went to town, had tea, and came home. Yet he’s acting like we’re under siege. It’s making me want to crawl out of my skin.
Why does everything feel wrong?
Before I can find an answer to that question, the door to my office slams open hard enough to rattle the
frame.
Noah doesn’t wait for permission to enter, fury written in every line of his expression. “Tell me you didn’t.”
I lean back in my chair, refusing to be baited. “Didn’t what?”
“Have Skye followed.” His voice is tight with barely controlled anger. “Collin was just in the kitchens talking about his ‘special assignment’ this morning. Tracking the Luna’s movements through town.”
“Collin should have kept his mouth shut!”
“Well it’s too late for that now, isn’t it? Fuck, Jaxon! Do you know how that makes you look?” He scolds.” Like a paranoid creep, that’s how! Like maybe you’re becoming too unstable to lead this pack!”
I flinch at the accusation. “I needed to ensure-”

“Ensure what? Do you even hear yourself?” Noah crosses the room in three strides, planting his hands on my desk. “You’re stalking your own wife. Having pack members spy on her because she’s not acting grateful enough for you. Because she might dare to have a life outside of you.”
“It’s not about gratitude-”
“You’re right. It’s not.” He straightens, running a hand through his hair. “You just can’t stand that she’s stopped begging for your attention.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
