Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Skye

I knew Jaxon went through my phone the minute I stepped out of the bathroom.

I could tell by the way it’s placed on the nightstand-screen down instead of up, shifted slightly from where I left it.

He knows I’ve been in contact with Nicolai. 1

And I know the confrontation is coming.

It happens at breakfast.

I’m pouring tea when Jaxon dismisses the staff with a curt gesture, leaving us alone.

“I want to know about Nicolai Woolf,” Jaxon says, his tone demanding.

I set down my teacup carefully, buying myself a moment. “What about him?”

“How often have you been in contact with him?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“You’re my mate-”

“I’m your wife in name only.” I meet his eyes steadily. “Who I talk to is my own concern.

Jaxon leans forward, his hands flat on the table. “He’s waiting for you to leave me, isn’t he? Ready to swoop in the moment you walk out that door.”

For a moment, I consider lying. Denying everything.

But I’m so tired of lying.

“Yes, I’ve been in contact with Nicolai. He’s been a friend when I had no one else.”

“A friend.” Jaxon’s voice drips with sarcasm. “Is that all he is?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“I don’t care whether you believe me or not.” I stand, needing the physical advantage of movement.” Nicolai has shown me more kindness and respect in a few phone calls than you’ve shown me in three years of marriage. If that makes you jealous, good. Maybe it’ll help you understand how I felt watching Cassandra live in this house for a month while you catered to her every whim.”

Jaxon’s jaw clenches. “That’s different-”

“Is it? I move toward the door “Because it looks exactly the same to me. You entertaining another

relationship while expecting me to just accept it.”

“I’m not having a relationship with her,” Jaxon growls, standing. “And neither should you be with Woolf.”

“I’m not having a relationship with him. He’s a friend. Something you clearly don’t understand.”

“If you leave,” Jaxon says quietly, and the shift in his tone makes me stop. “If you go to him, I will fight you for custody of our child.”

The threat hangs in the air like a physical thing.

My blood runs cold.

“You wouldn’t

“Try me.” He moves closer, his eyes hard. “I won’t let another Alpha raise my child. I won’t let Woolf play

father to my heir.”

“You’re threatening to take my baby away because you can’t stand the thought of me being happy with someone else?”

I’m promising to fight for my child, Jaxon corrects

I stare at him, really seeing him for the first time in weeks.

This isn’t about love It’s never been about love

It’s about ownership. Control. The inability to let go of something he considers his, even if he doesn’t actually want it.

“You’re pathetic,’ I say quietly.

Then I walk out before he can see the tears starting to form

I’m in my office, trying to focus on Luna paperwork and failing, when my phone rings.

Not yet, I text back. But soon. Thank you for being there.

The response is immediate: Always.

I set the phone down and press my hand to my stomach, feeling the slight flutter of movement that’s becoming more frequent.

“Just a little longer,” I whisper to the baby.

I wake the next morning to find Jaxon is gone. 1

There’s a note on his pillow, written in his sharp handwriting:

Gone to handle pack business in the northern district. Back tomorrow night.

Twenty four hours

I have twenty four hours of freedom The relief is instant

But I’m taken by surprise when the sadness hits. Not because I miss Jaxon, I’m well past that. But it’s beyond sad that this is what my life has become.

Because soon, I’m leaving my mate. The man fate chose for me.

I’m breaking the bond that’s supposed to be sacred, unbreakable.

I’m taking our unborn child and walking away from everything I’ve known for the past three years.

And I’m terrified.

But I’m also certain.

Because staying would destroy me.
