Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 65
Chapter 65
Skye
Later that day, I’m in the garden when Jaxon finds me.
“Did you know Woolf is still in the area?” His fists are clenched at his sides like he’s been fighting himself not to ask and lost the battle.
I look up from the roses I’ve been absently tending. “Yes.”
No point in lying.
Jaxon nods slowly, his jaw tight. “I know you’ve been in contact with him. I know he’s important to you.
Here it comes. The jealousy. The accusations.
But Jaxon surprises me.
“I can’t ask you to cut him off,” he says quietly. “I know that’s not fair and violates our agreement. But I need to ask one more time… is there something between you?”
“We’re friends,” I say honestly. “That’s all.”
“But you care about him.”
It’s not a question.
“Yes. As a friend.” I meet his eyes. “The same way you care about Noah. Nicolai has been there for me when I had no one else. He helped my family when you refused. He’s been kind when kindness was
scarce.”
Jaxon’s jaw clenches, but his voice stays level. “I understand.”
“Do you?”
“I’m trying to.” He takes a breath. “I won’t ask you to stop talking to him. But I need you to understand- watching you with him, seeing how you light up when his name is mentioned… it’s hard.”
“Good,” I say quietly. “Now you know how I felt watching Cassandra in our home.”
The parallel hits him visibly.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “For all of it.”
“I know.” I turn back to the roses. “But sorry doesn’t fix three years of damage, Jaxon. It’s just words.”
“Then let me prove it with actions.”
I don’t respond Just keep tending the roses while he stands there, helpless and uncertain.
After a moment, he leaves

And I’m alone with my thoughts and the growing life inside me that complicates everything. Jaxon truly seems like he’s trying and it would be so easy to give in, to raise this baby together and be a family.
But I can’t let myself believe it’s real. Not yet. And if it’s not, I can’t raise my child in the kind of hell I’ve been living in.
That evening, Jaxon asks if we can have dinner together. Just the two of us.
I agree, wary but willing.
The meal is stilted. Awkward. We’re two strangers trying to figure out how to talk to each other after
years of silence. But it’s something.
Jaxon asks about my day. Actually listens to my answers instead of nodding absently while thinking about pack business.
He shares a little about territory disputes with a neighboring pack, but doesn’t make it sound like a burden I’m adding to by forcing him to talk.
“The council is pushing for expansion into the neutral zone,” he says. “But I think it’s a mistake. Too aggressive. It would destabilize relationships we’ve spent decades building.”
“What does Noah think?” I ask.
“He agrees with me. We’re planning to present an alternative proposal at the next council meeting.”
It’s the most normal conversation we’ve had in… I can’t remember how long.
When I mention feeling tired-pregnancy exhaustion that hits me in waves-Jaxon doesn’t push.
“You should rest,” he says simply. “I’ll clean up here.”
He doesn’t try for physical intimacy. Doesn’t suggest we spend more time together. Doesn’t push for
affection.
Just… respects my boundaries.
It’s jarring. And suspicious. And maybe, possibly, genuine.
Jaxon’s hands clench, but he nods.
“Deal.”
“Good. I’ll send our acceptance in the morning,” I say, moving past Jaxon toward my office.
“Skye?”
I pause, looking back.
“Thank you,” he says quietly. “For agreeing to this. For giving me this chance. I know it’s not easy.”
“No,” I agree. “It’s not.”
But I’m doing it anyway.
For the baby. For the divorce proceedings. For my own peace of mind.
And maybe just maybe-for that tiny, dangerous part of me that still wonders what if.

I push that thought down and walk away.
I can do this.
I have to.
