Chapter 73
Skye
The first call I make is to Diana. I tap my fingernails nervously on my desk while I wait for her to pick up. When she does, I don’t even give her a chance to speak.
“I’m ready,” I say when she answers. “I need to file for divorce. Now.”
“Oh, sweetheart.” Diana’s voice is full of relief and concern. “Are you sure?”
I swallow down my irritation at that question, reminding myself she’s only asking because she’s worried for me. But she doesn’t need to be. We’ve been over this, and I know it won’t be easy. But that’s why we
have a plan in place.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything.” I tell her confidently, hoping she hears the certainty in my voice.
“Then we’ll support you. Whatever you need.” She assures me.
I thank her and ask her to put my father on the phone, knowing he’s nearby. He’s never too far from her side, a fact I’m trying to accept more and more.
“I need you here,” I tell him, skipping all the pleasantries. “I’m filing for divorce from Jaxon, and I need the pack’s support.”
I expect him to lecture me but instead, there’s a long pause. “This is really what you want?”
“It’s what I need, Dad. Please.” I hate the pleading tone in my voice but I’m not above begging if it gets
me what I need.
“Then I’ll be there tomorrow.” He promises.
Lastly, I call the lawyer Diana recommended. Gianna Romano. A sharp, no-nonsense woman who specializes in pack law and has a reputation for winning cases that seem unwinnable. Cases like mine.
“Luna Vale,” Gianna answers professionally. “Diana said you might be calling.”
“I need to file for divorce. Immediately.”
“I’ll need to review the case first. Can you come to my office tomorrow?”
“No. I need you to come here. To the Ironwood Pack. I want to file the petition with our pack council first.”
There’s a pause. “That’s… unusual. Most wolves prefer neutral territory for these proceedings.”.
“I’m not most wolves.” My voice is firm. “And I want to do this properly. Publicly. With witnesses.”
“Understood. I’ll be there tomorrow afternoon.”
Over the next two days, I move pieces into place like a chess master.
My father arrives with Diana, a show of support that’s more strategic in nature than simply familial, but

I’m starting to think there’s hope for that too. They’re staying in a guest cottage on pack grounds, close enough to be there for me if I need them but far enough to avoid unnecessary confrontation with Jaxon.
Gianna arrives with a briefcase full of documents and a recorder to take my statement. We spend hours going over every detail of my marriage. Every instance of neglect. Every broken promise. Every
humiliation.
I should be a sobbing puddle of tears as I recount the multitude of ways Jaxon broke me over the last three years. Instead I pour out the list with a strange sense of detachment, like it all happened to someone else and I just had the misfortune to witness it all.
“This is a strong case,” Gianna says finally. “Unusually strong, actually. Most divorce petitions are he-said -she-said. But you have witnesses. Documentation. A clear pattern of behavior.”
“Will it be enough?”
“It should be. Especially if pack members are willing to testify.”
Now they’ll decide mine.
Then there’s Jaxon, standing near the window with his arms crossed. His expression is carefully controlled, but I can see the tension in his shoulders. He’s made himself scarce the past two days, a move that somewhat surprised me, having expected him to hound me to the very end. But seeing him now, the wheels spinning behind his eyes, I can only wonder what plans of his own he’s been making.
Elder Patricia looks up when I enter. “Luna Skye. Thank you for joining us.”
“Thank you for agreeing to hear my petition.” I take my seat at the table, Gianna beside me.
Elder Graham clears his throat. “Before we begin, I want to clarify the nature of these proceedings. This is a formal petition for dissolution of a mate bond. It’s… highly unusual. And carries significant implications for the pack’s stability.”
“I understand,” I say calmly.
“Very well.” Elder Patricia opens a folder. “Shall we begin?”
I meet Jaxon’s eyes across the room.
He’s staring at me like he can’t quite believe this is happening. Like he thought I’d back down at the last
moment.
But I don’t back down.
I’ve never been more certain of anything in my life.
“Yes,” I say. “Let’s begin.”
