Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 74

Chapter 74

Jaxon

I can’t believe this is happening. I’m really sitting here in the council chamber, and the world feels like it’s tilting sideways.

Skye just formally requested a divorce.

In front of the pack elders. With her father and Diana standing behind her as witnesses. With a lawyer-a fucking lawyer-presenting documentation like this is some kind of court case instead of the dissolution

of a mate bond.

This is real.

She’s really doing this.

Gianna Romano stands at the head of the table, presenting the case with a shrewdness I’d admire if it

wasn’t directed against me.

She’s good. Professional. The kind of lawyer who doesn’t waste words or emotion on anything that won’t

serve her client.

And right now, her client is my mate.

“Luna Skye has been an exemplary member of this pack for three years,” Gianna begins, laying out documents with a detached demeanor, like she isn’t trying to single-handedly dismantle my whole life.” She has fulfilled every duty expected of her as Luna. Organized charitable initiatives. Mediated pack disputes. Represented the Ironwood Pack at regional gatherings with grace and dignity. 1

“She has supported her mate unconditionally, never once disrespected him in front of the pack. In fact, pack members will testify she’s been nothing but loving and affectionate toward her husband.”

She pauses, letting that sink in.

“Alpha Jaxon, however, has failed in his duties as a mate.”

The words hit like a cement truck.

“Three years of documented neglect,” Gianna continues, pulling out witness statements. “Pack members have observed Alpha Jaxon’s coldness toward his mate. His public disrespect. His refusal to support

her when she needed him most.”

She produces a report from the night of the storm. Dr. Lukas’s medical notes documenting Skye’s near- fatal exposure. The timeline showing how long she was left alone before rescue arrived. Testimony from guards at the station stating I never notified them to go back for her. As if it wasn’t bad enough that I left her there in the first place.

“Alpha Jaxon chose to prioritize another woman’s child over his own mate’s safety,” Gianna states. “He left Luna Skye in a life-threatening situation to attend to his ex-lover.”

“Cassandra’s son is my son-“I start.

“Is he?” Gianna’s eyes are sharp. “Has paternity been established through an independent lab?”

I go still. “I saw a test-”

“A test produced by the mother based on samples collected without a known witness. Only the mother’s word that the samples weren’t altered.” She lets that hang in the air for a moment. “Regardless, we aren’t here to debate the child’s paternity. The choice to leave your mate in a storm demonstrates a

fundamental failure of duty.”

She pulls out more documentation. Photographs of Cassandra living in the Alpha house. Testimony from staff about my treatment of Skye versus my attention to Cassandra.

“I won’t allow this,” I say, desperation making my voice hard. “I am the Alpha of this pack. She is my mate. I refuse to grant a divorce.”

Skye speaks for the first time since the proceedings began. Her voice cuts through the room like a blade.

“You don’t get to decide anymore.”

I turn to face her. “I’m your Alpha-”

“You’re the pack’s Alpha,” she corrects, her voice calm and devastating. “But you’re not mine. Not in any way that matters. And pack law doesn’t require your consent if the council rules the bond is damaged. beyond repair.”

She looks at the elders, not at me. “I’m asking you to make that ruling.”
