Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 91

Chapter 91

Nicolai

After the longest ten minutes of my life, Diana finally appears at the door to Marco’s office. But Skye isn’t

with her.

“She’s not ready to leave her room. She’s asked for you to come up. But Nicolai?” Diana’s voice is gentle but firm. “She’s fragile right now. Be patient with her.”

I nod and follow her upstairs. Skye is sitting on her bed, wearing soft clothes that accommodate her growing belly. The way her hands rest protectively over the bump makes it look more pronounced. The sight makes me feel something I’m not ready to examine too closely yet.

When she sees me, something in her expression shifts. Not surprise-she knew I was coming. But something that might be relief. I hope so.

“Nicolai.” Her voice is quiet. “You came.”

“Of course I came.”

I want to cross the room and pull her into my arms. Check her for injuries myself. Make sure she’s really okay. I don’t. I stay by the door, giving her space.

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine. The baby’s fine. Everyone keeps asking, and we’re both fine.” But her hands are shaking slightly.

She’s not fine. She’s terrified and trying to be brave.

“Diana said you’re having second thoughts,” I say carefully.

Skye looks away. “You’ve already done so much for me, for my family. I can’t involve you in this too. It’s my problem, my mess-”

“It’s not your mess.” I move closer, just a step, like approaching a wounded animal. “You didn’t choose any of this. Didn’t choose to have your stepbrother witness something that put your whole family in danger.”

“But I can’t keep running to you every time something goes wrong.” Her voice breaks slightly.

“Skye-”

“I’m supposed to be strong. Independent. I got myself out of a bad marriage, I should be able to protect myself-”

“You already proved how strong you are.”

My voice is firm enough that she stops, looks at me.

“You endured three years of hell with Vale, then you got yourself out. You fought for your freedom, for

your child. You stood up to an Alpha and a pack council and won.” I take another step closer. “But Skye- you don’t have to do everything alone. Strength isn’t refusing help. Strength is knowing when to accept it.

“But why?” Her eyes are bright with unshed tears. “Why do you keep helping me?”

It’s a question I can’t fully answer.

Because I’m falling in love with you. Because the thought of you in danger makes me want to burn the world down. Because I’d do anything-sacrifice anything-to keep you and that baby safe.

I can’t say any of that. So I give her a partial truth.

“Because you deserve to be safe. Because your baby deserves to be safe.” I pause. “And because I can keep you safe in ways your father can’t. No offense to Marco-he’s a good Alpha. But the Woolf family has resources, connections, and a reputation that makes smart wolves think twice.”

“You mean you’re scary enough that they won’t come after me,” Skye says quietly.

“Exactly.” I can’t help but chuckle at her frankness.

She’s quiet for a long moment, one hand rubbing small circles on her belly.

“I mean it, Dimitri. Skye is under my protection now. Anyone who threatens her, upsets her, or makes her feel unsafe will answer to me. Including Jaxon Vale.”

Dimitri studies me carefully. “You’re planning something. What are you planning?”

I’m planning to keep Skye safe.”

“And?” He knows me too well.

“And find whoever attacked her.” I answer begrudgingly.

“There it is.” Dimitri’s voice is resigned. “How much blood are we talking?”

“However much it takes.” I shrug.

We start walking toward the stairs, and I see Diana in the hallway. She gives me a long, assessing look.

“Take care of her, Alpha Woolf.” I hear the warning in her tone. This tiny she-wolf is absolutely not afraid of me and I’m glad she’s in Skye’s corner.

“With my life, I promise her.

And I mean every word. Because Skye Winters and her unborn child are under Woolf protection now. And anyone who threatens them will learn exactly why my family has held power for three generations.

Not through politics or diplomacy.

Through fear.

And I’m about to remind the wolves of this world why they should be afraid.
