Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Jaxon
Nicolai’s voice cuts through the hall like a blade. He’s suddenly there, moving between Skye and me with barely concealed aggression.
“She just got away from you, Vale. You think I’m letting her walk back into that situation?”
“This is none of your business, Woolf-” I don’t care how much power he’s rumored to have, I will not cower to him! Not when it comes to Skye.
“Enough.” Skye’s voice is quiet but firm, causing both Nicolai and I to stop and turn to look at her.
“Your solution is always more control, Jaxon.” She sounds tired. So tired. “But this isn’t about control. It’s about survival. Someone tried to take me yesterday. Tried to hurt our baby. I won’t risk him.”
“So you’re running to Woolf? To him?” The jealousy in my voice is obvious, ugly.
Skye’s expression shifts to something cold. “I’m going where I’ll be safe. Where my baby will be safe. That’s all that matters.”
“Our agreement-”
“Can be modified.” Nicolai steps forward again, and I resist the urge to shove him back.
“You can’t take her that far. It violates our custody arrangement-she promised I could be part of the pregnancy!”
Nicolai’s response is cold, controlled, and devastating. “There won’t be a pregnancy or a child if she’s
dead.”
The words pierce straight to my soul. Losing Skye or our child, I wouldn’t survive it.
“You know what my family is capable of,” Nicolai continues, his voice hard. “You know I can protect her. The Woolf estate has security your pack couldn’t match with ten times the budget. We have connections that make the most dangerous wolves think twice.”
He pauses, and the question that follows guts me.
“Can you protect her, Vale? Really protect her from organized crime with connections throughout the world? Because we have reason to believe that’s who’s coming for her.”
The question hangs in the air. And we both know the answer. No. I can’t.
I don’t have the resources, the connections, the reputation that the Woolf family has. I can’t keep Skye safe. Not from this.
“How will I see her?” My voice comes out broken, desperate. “See my child?”
Nicolai’s expression softens slightly.

“We’ll arrange visits. Weekly if you want them. But Skye’s safety comes first. Always.”
As much as I hate it, I can’t deny he’s right. Skye’s safety is more important than anything else, even my pride. That’s why I find myself standing here, watching Skye get into Nicolai’s car.
I’m forced to watch another man close the door for her carefully, making sure she’s comfortable before shutting it. Watch Dimitri load her belongings into the trunk like she’s precious cargo. Which, of course,
she is. I just want her to be mine to care for.
Marco appears beside me. “This is the right choice,” he says, like he might actually feel bad for me. “For her and for the baby.”
“I know,” I say. And I do know.
Logically, rationally, I know the Woolf estate is safer than anywhere else Skye could be. But knowing doesn’t make it hurt less. It doesn’t make the jealousy and fear and rage any easier to bear. Doesn’t make it easier to watch another man take responsibility for protecting what should have been mine to
protect.
Noah’s hand lands on my shoulder. “Let’s go home, Jax.”
But I can’t move. Can’t look away as Nicolai’s car pulls out of the driveway, taking Skye farther from me. Putting her under yet another Alpha’s protection. Another Alpha’s roof.
Noah appears in the doorway. “You okay?”
“No.” I could lie, but what’s the point?
“Stupid question.” He sits down across from my desk. “What are you going to do?”
“What can I do?” I look up at him. “She’s safer with Woolf than she ever was with me. The baby’s safer.
And I have to live with that.”
“You could fight it-” He doesn’t really think I should, he’s just goading me. But I respond anyway.
“And risk her safety? Risk my son?” I shake my head. “No. I’ll take whatever visitation Woolf allows. And I’ll pray that when this is over, Skye doesn’t realize she’s better off without me entirely.”
Because that’s my nightmare. That Skye will feel so safe, so cared for, so happy in Woolf territory that she’ll never want to leave. That she’ll choose Nicolai over me.
And I’ll have to sit back and watch it happen.
