next day at noon, after lunch and a short rest, Victoria went to the room next door to treat Jackson.

She opened the door and saw Jackson sitting up against the headboard, reading a business magazine.

Sunlight poured in through the window, leaving patches of light and shadow across him.

At the sound, Jackson looked up and smiled at Victoria as soon as he saw her.

“Had lunch yet? I’m here to give you your treatment,” Victoria said.

“Yeah, just ate,” Jackson replied, setting the business magazine on the bedside table with an easy smile.

Victoria sat down by the bed, took out her acupuncture kit, and opened it on her lap. “The doctor will give you a full checkup this afternoon. If everything’s normal, you can get discharged.”

Jackson pulled back the blanket and rolled up his pant leg. “My grandpa’s still a little worried about me, so he wants me to stay in the hospital for a couple more days. But I should be out before the engagement party.”

Victoria smiled. “Okay, I’ll just come here to keep treating you for the next couple of days”

“Sounds good,” Jackson replied.

The treatment went on smoothly, and before they knew it, time had quietly slipped away.

Halfway through the treatment, Jackson, who’d been watching her, suddenly remembered something and asked, “Has Gavin been pestering you lately?”

Victoria didn’t even look up, still focused on her acupuncture work. “Why do you ask? Yeah, he messages me every night- still as stubborn as ever. But honestly, most of what he says is about you.”

Victoria couldn’t help but feel amused at that.

Jackson noticed her amused expression and raised an eyebrow. “What’s he saying about me?”

“Last night he sent me an article called [Ladies, Beware. Ten Twisted Behaviors of Men Who Can’t Have Kids.] He was basically hinting that you might be mentally twisted now, and if I marry you, I’d be walking straight into a disaster,” Victoria said.

Jackson was momentarily stunned, then shook his head with a wry smile. “Looks like the rumors about me not being able to have kids are still making the rounds.”

Victoria nodded, totally agreeing. “Of course. When it comes to rich family secrets, the gossip crowd just loves to keep the drama going.”

glanced at her, a thoughtful look in his eyes. “Vickie, once we get married, do you think we should hurry up and at rumor?”

a paused, looked up, and gave him a mischievous grin. “Tsk, Jack, your leg’s not even healed and you’re already king about that? You’re so shameless.”

ckson chuckled. “If I ever act serious around you, you know I’m just faking it.”

a clicked her tongue again. “My mom always says I’ve got a sweet mouth, but honestly, you totally beat me at it.”

Jackson blurted out, “I saw something online about relationships. If you care enough, you don’t need anyone to teach you. I guess it just comes naturally to me when it comes to you.”

“Wow, you must be really bored if you’re getting into dating advice now,” Victoria teased, raising an eyebrow.

Jackson admitted openly, “Life used to be pretty dull. Now that I’ve got some free time, I’m just trying to broaden my interests a bit.”

They just kept chatting, shooting the breeze, and before they knew it, the treatment was over.

Victoria carefully disinfected the used needles with alcohol and put them back in her acupuncture kit. She glanced down at Jackson and asked, “I’ve been working on your legs for a while now. How are they feeling these days?”

Jackson rubbed his knee. “Honestly, they feel kind of itchy and tingly, like there’s a current running through them or something.”

“That’s a good sign. It means your strength is coming back. If you don’t mind a bit of pain, try putting your feet on the floor every so often. Start easy, don’t force it, and once you get used to it, you can gradually push yourself a little more,” Victoria advised.

“Got it,” Jackson replied, nodding seriously.

Victoria packed up her kit, stretched, and let out a yawn. “Relax. I told you I’d have you walking again in three months, and I mean it. You’re not going to be limping into next year, trust me.”

“I trust your skills. You look worn out. Go grab a nap,” Jackson said softly.

I’m not worried about myself, but you should rest up while you’re here. You’ll need all the strength you can get for our engagement party. It’s going to wear you out,” Victoria said, stretching as she walked out of the room.

After watching Victoria leave the room, Jackson tapped his fingers on his freshly treated thigh, his dark eyes glinting with thought.

Gavin really is relentless when it comes to Vickie,‘ Jackson mused. ‘If I don’t do something, he’s not going to give up on her that easily.

Later that evening, after the doctor confirmed Victoria had no lingering effects from the accident, her new mom helped her check out of the hospital.

As they were leaving, they happened to run into Julia, who was carrying lunch to visit Curtis.

Victoria caught Julia’s creepy glare, gave her a sly little smile, and cozied up to her new mom as they walked out of the hospital.

She deliberately sighed, “Man, it feels amazing to finally be discharged. I still need to check with Calvin about those shares. he’s handing over to me.”

That brat is totally doing this on purpose, just to piss me off. Julia seethed inside.

Julia gripped her lunchbox, glaring at their backs as they left, and hissed under her breath, “Mother and daughter, both trash. Don’t get too full of yourselves. Darell and I will make sure you crash and burn sooner or later.”
