“Angelica, aren’t you just afraid all your scheming will end up for nothing? If I really cure Jackson and drop the marriage, you’ll be kicking yourself, won’t you?” Victoria said.

“But that’s not all. You had other chances, like with Oliver.”

“Too bad you missed out on that too. Now, Darell’s family must be putting a lot of pressure on you. Bet you’re feeling the heat, huh?”

“Oh, and by the way, when you went to apologize to Oliver, he happened to be visiting me in the hospital. He put your conversation on speaker so I could hear everything.”

“Honestly, your apology almost made me feel sorry for you, but Oliver didn’t give you even the slightest chance.”

“So now that you can’t win Oliver over, are you thinking that if I really cure Jackson’s legs, you’ll try to go back to him?”

“I bet you’re thinking, ‘With my charm, if I just play nice and make myself irresistible, how could I possibly fail to win Jackson over? Jackson might be amazing, but at the end of the day, he’s just a guy. What guy wouldn’t fall for a beautiful woman?“”

With every word Victoria said, Angelica’s pretty face twisted with annoyance.

Finally, Victoria looked at her with obvious pity. “Angelica, as the adopted daughter of the Binder family, I can tell you’re really under a lot of pressure. I get it. Keep working hard to please the family. If all your efforts end up in vain, you might really end up having to use your looks to get what you want.”

“But as the real heiress of the Binder family, I don’t have to worry about that. No matter what, I already own 10% of Binder Pharma Group and 30% of Brightstar Entertainment.”

“And Jackson traded his injury payout just to get me those 30% shares in Brightstar Entertainment. Honestly, all I wanted was a little sweet talk, but he insisted on proving how genuine he was.” Victoria shook her head, pretending to be troubled.

Just then, the elevator reached B2. Victoria walked in with a casual flair, lunchbox in hand, and hit the button for the sixth floor where Jackson’s ward was located.

Angelica’s face was drained of color as she gripped her lunchbox tight. Without a word, she stepped in after Victoria and pressed the button for the seventh floor, where Curtis was staying.

Victoria was really on a roll now. “My engagement party with Jackson is this Saturday. Want me to give you another chance to show off? Maybe you’ll catch the attention of some big shot.”

“At my welcome party, you only played the piano. You still haven’t embarrassed yourself with chess, calligraphy, or painting. I heard Gerry loves playing chess. Why not challenge him to a match right there?”

“Or if you prefer, you can do some calligraphy or painting. I’ll have all the art supplies ready for you.”

Victoria smirked, “Cat got your tongue?”

Angelica managed a strained smile. “No, thanks.”

“The guests at my engagement party are way bigger deals than the ones at my welcome party. Are you really gonna pass up on this?” Victoria pressed.

Angelica forced a smile, trying hard not to lose it. “Really, I don’t need it.”

Victoria let out a mocking laugh. “I give you a shot and you still can’t step up?”

When the elevator reached the sixth floor, Victoria stepped out.

As soon as the doors closed, Angelica’s smile melted away, replaced by a scowl of hatred.

If it weren’t for the security cameras, she would’ve loved to kick the elevator doors right then and there.

She just couldn’t believe Victoria would be able to handle all the Thornton family’s tricks and pressure at the engagement party, and still steal the spotlight like she did at the welcome party.

When Victoria got to Jackson’s ward, she walked over to the bed and set the lunchbox down on the nightstand. “Here, eat up. My mom asked me to bring you lunch.”

Jackson could sense she was a bit off. He put down his magazine and looked up at her with a smile. “Who got on your nerves?”

Victoria sat down and pulled out her acupuncture kit. “Angelica, obviously. Talking to her is as uncomfortable as being constipated. She just makes you feel miserable.”

Jackson laughed at her vivid description.

Jackson opened the lunchbox and said, “Hard to judge, but I’m definitely not one of those guys.”

Victoria shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. She can’t make any waves with me. Honestly, I’m just keeping her around so that when she’s desperate, she’ll end up stabbing Darell’s family in the back for me.”

Jackson nodded. “Yeah, why waste our alone time talking about her? That’s just a total waste of our time.”

Victoria chuckled as she started treating Jackson.

Jackson dug into the lunch Victoria brought, and honestly, it tasted better than ever.

He had no idea what Angelica said to her, but judging by Victoria’s reaction, she definitely cared about him.

That made him really happy.

When Angelica stepped into the room, she spotted Simon standing quietly by the window, completely absorbed in a document he was gripping tightly. His brows were knit together, clearly lost in something that demanded all his attention.

‘Simon? What are you so focused on?” Angelica asked in a low voice as she slowly approached him.

Simon came back to himself and looked up at her, his expression still heavy with concern. He handed her the papers. “Just take a look, and you’ll understand.”

Angelica paused, a bit stunned, then set her lunchbox and bag on the table before taking the papers from Simon.

She bent over the pages and started reading through the mysterious file.

At first, she looked pretty calm, but soon her face went pale, and her eyes filled with disbelief and shock.

After a while, Angelica finally looked up, barely able to believe it. “Victoria has such a dark past…”

Simon nodded, his expression heavy. “It’s not just scary. It’s honestly chilling.”

Angelica stopped reading, folding the papers up in a hurry. “Simon, where did you even get this stuff?”

Simon said, “It’s a file from Curtis’s phone. Came in a couple days ago. Looks like he had his people investigate Victoria. I printed it out to check.”

‘A couple days ago?‘ Angelica paused, surprised. ‘Wasn’t that the same day I found out Curtis was investigating me? Turns out he wasn’t just digging into my background. He was checking up on Victoria too.”

She looked a little rattled, but kept her composure and probed, “Any other files or info on Curtis’s phone?”

Simon shook his head. “No, just this one.”

Angelica quietly breathed out, relieved. ‘Guess they still haven’t uncovered the part where I paid someone to mess with

Still feeling a bit shaken, she added, “I bumped into Victoria in the parking lot earlier, and we even rode the elevator
