Chapter 123
On Saturday evening, the sun slowly set, and the sky was dyed in a warm orange–red hue.

It was just past six, and the Thornton Estate was already lively and full of excitement. Guests were pulling up one after another in their fancy rides, eager to arrive early.
From the gates of the Thornton Estate, all the way down the road for nearly two kilometers, both sides were filled with decorations that radiated romance and festivity.
Heart–shaped walls made from pink and red roses, balloon walls bursting with every color imaginable, and countless balloons woven together into vibrant arches.
A gentle breeze made the balloons sway softly, as if the whole scene was straight out of a dream.
Along the way, elegant flower baskets and twinkling fairy lights cast a gentle, warm glow.
Melodious music blended through the air, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that made this engagement party feel unprecedentedly grand and absolutely stunning.
After parking at the estate gates, a bunch of socialites and heiresses gathered with their closest friends, snapping photos and checking in for their social media posts.
“Wow, it’s just an engagement party, but they’ve gone all out!”
“Seriously, this must be a billion–dollar engagement party! If the wedding is even more over–the–top, it’ll be a once–in–a- century extravaganza!”
“If Jackson wasn’t crippled, Angelica would’ve been the bride tonight, right?”
“What a shame.”
Angelica and Simon had just arrived.
As they stepped out of the car, hearing the socialites gush about the party, Angelica’s face grew conflicted.
The engagement party was being held at the Thornton Estate, and as she took in the lavish decorations, her heart ached with envy.
This once–in–a–century grand engagement party should have been hers.
“I don’t know about that. Maybe Jackson went all out for the party just because he’s marrying Victoria, the real heiress. If it were Angelica, the adopted daughter, he probably wouldn’t have gone to such lengths.”
Just then, another girl jumped in, questioning the whole thing.
“I heard that when Jackson was engaged to Angelica, he never made any effort. They didn’t even go out together once
“Seriously?”
“It’s probably not just gossip. But ever since he switched to Victoria, Jackson’s been super involved. I heard he and Gerry planned this whole engagement party together. He personally oversaw every detail and picked everything himself.
“Wow, he really put his heart into it.”
Getting dragged into a comparison with Victoria, and coming out on the losing side, Angelica’s expression darkened.

Simon limped over after getting out of the car and gave Angelica’s shoulder a gentle pat. “Don’t pay any attention to their gossip. If Jackson couldn’t see how amazing you are, that’s his loss. Now that he’s stuck like this, he’s nothing special anyway. You deserve someone way better than him.”
Angelica forced a cheerful smile. “Honestly, I’d much rather stay home with Mom and Dad than marry one of those high- society heirs.”
Simon smiled, relieved. “That’s all I could ask for. But you’re incredible, and you deserve a guy who’s even more incredible and strong enough to cherish you. With everything you’ve got going for you, even as an adopted daughter, finding someone who’s your equal wouldn’t be a problem at all.”
“Does that mean once I get married, you won’t dote on me or take care of me anymore?” Angelica joked playfully.
Simon chuckled. “Of course not! As your brother, I’ll always dote on you and look after you, forever.”
Angelica’s face lit up with a genuine, happy smile.
‘Come on, let’s go in,” Simon said.
“Yeah.” Angelica replied.
As Simon and Angelica walked away, the socialites and heirs started gossiping again.
‘Hey, did you guys notice? Simon’s right leg looks like he’s got a limp.”
‘He was hobbling around with a cane at the reception party last time. I thought he just took a fall or something, but it’s been
a week and he’s still not better. Is he really going to be limping for good?”
‘No clue. Is it some new trend for handsome guys to end up with busted legs? Jackson’s stuck in a wheelchair, and now Simon is limping too.”
That’s pretty wild.”
Shh…
Right then, the socialites and heirs went quiet as they spotted Darell and Julia getting out of their car.
Darell gave them a cold, icy stare, while Julia looked absolutely furious.
Fortunately, they didn’t say anything and headed straight for the open estate gates.
The socialites and heirs finally let out a breath, relieved.
“Everyone here tonight is supposed to be someone important. And yet they’re all just gossiping behind people’s backs. How shameless!” Julia was absolutely fuming as she listened to them talk trash about her eldest son, Simon.
At first, she thought Simon was just venting when he said his leg was broken, but now she realized it was true.
Darell had already contacted the top prosthetics expert overseas, making arrangements to get Simon the best artificial leg money could buy.
‘Why does bad luck always hit the best people? Simon’s still so young. How could something like this happen to him?‘ Julia thought, her chest tight with frustration.

ppp.
At least, unlike Jackson, Simon only lost one leg.

Darell said, “Don’t let the gossip get to you. The top prosthetics expert overseas is already custom–making the perfect artificial leg for Simon. Once he gets it, it won’t affect his daily life at all, and all this gossip will just fade away.”
Julia pouted. “I just can’t stand hearing all that talk.”
Darell’s face was cold. “If you’re already bothered by this, just wait until the Binder family fortune ends up in Hector and Daisy’s hands. You’ll have to deal with even more snide remarks behind your back.”
Julia understood what her husband meant. She shouldn’t let these trivial things get to her. Right now, she needed to focus on scheming for the Binder family fortune.
“Got it. But with Sirena’s husband willing to set up a meeting with Mr. Cooke for us, and Angelica working hard to win over the Cooke family’s only son, I think our partnership with the Cooke famile is basically a done deal,” Julia said.
“Mm,” Darell replied, his expression serious.
Tonight, there was no way their family could trip up Victoria. Now it all depended on whether the Thornton family would play it straight and hold back from using this opportunity to suppress Jackson.
Right now, Darell definitely didn’t want Jackson to end up as the Thornton family heir.

“Hector, Daisy, you two must be exhausted today. There are so many important guests here, so make sure you welcome them properly. This is a huge occasion. Don’t let anything mess up this big event. And keep an eye on Victoria, too. Don’t let her cause any trouble at the Thornton Estate, or it’ll be our family’s reputation at stake.”
Julia walked up to the entrance, her words full of hidden meaning as she addressed Daisy and Simon, who were busy greeting the guests.
Daisy kept up her polite smile, her reply just as pointed. “Don’t worry, Julia. As long as no one’s scheming behind the scenes, there won’t be any drama. Hector and I won’t let anyone who likes to cause trouble from the shadows ruin Victoria’s engagement party.”
Julia glanced around the entrance, her smile sharp as a knife. “This is the Thornton Estate, after all. I just hope you two can really keep things under control. Look at this. On such an important day, Jackson’s father isn’t even here to help greet the guests. Looks like he’s given up on Jackson.”
If Jackson loses his place in the Thornton family, who’s going to protect your daughter who always causes trouble? You’d better watch yourselves.”
