Hector had already heard about this from Daisy when he got home from work last night. But he wasn’t worried at all.

“Is that so? You haven’t even met Mr. Cooke yet, and the meeting isn’t even set. Don’t you think you’re celebrating a bit too soon, Darell?” Hector said.

But Darell replied confidently, “Today is your daughter’s engagement party, so I won’t ruin your day. Go ahead, keep dreaming that you can take the company from me.”

Julia lifted her chin with pride and strode into the Thornton family’s house, Simon and Angelica trailing right behind her.

Daisy watched their family of four walk away and commented, “They just love showing up here to bring bad vibes every single day!”

Hector took Daisy’s hand and gently squeezed it, soothing her. “Let them be. They’re just running their mouths. They can’t touch Victoria, not even a little.”

Daisy nodded. “Yeah.” After a pause, she grumbled, “But Jackson’s father is really way out of line. Not even bothering to show up and welcome guests for his own son at such a big event, who knows where he disappeared to? He’s practically begging for people to gossip about Jackson.”

Hector thought for a moment. “Maybe he did it on purpose. We just need to look after Victoria. Jackson’s sharp. He can handle things over at the Thornton family.”

Aside from Donald’s family, who lived at the estate, and the eldest sister Nancy, all of Gerry’s other kids showed up with their own children. Right now, everyone was crowded into the study, shooting the breeze with Gerry.

“Hey Donald, it’s your son’s big engagement day. Why aren’t you out there welcoming guests? Instead, you’re hanging out with us and Dad. Haven’t you had enough of estate life after all these years?” Ryan, the fourth brother, teased.

Before Donald could say anything, Thomas, the third brother, snorted, “Jackson can’t even walk anymore. Donald, are you worried you’ll get kicked out of the estate soon?”

Donald felt pissed, but he kept it to himself. He just replied, “You guys hardly ever come back, so of course hanging out with you is more important.”

Just then, Gerry, who had been resting with his eyes closed, enjoying the calming aromatherapy scent, opened his eyes. “I know you’re all worried about who’ll be the Thornton family’s next heir. I have my own plans.”

Hearing that, Thomas and Ryan immediately straightened up.

“Dad, with Jackson in his current state, he’s not fit for it anymore,” Thomas said bluntly.

Helen, the second daughter, just quietly sipped her coffee and kept her mouth shut.

Gerry said unhurriedly, “No need to rush the heir decision. I’ll make it official before the end of the year.”

With three months left until year’s end, Thomas and Ryan exchanged a look. They guessed Gerry still hadn’t given up on Jackson.
