Faye glanced at Victoria with a half–smile. “Miss Binder, your performance just now was quite impressive. But once you become a part of the Thornton family and become Jackson’s wife, you’ll have to keep pushing yourself and keep up the effort.”

Victoria flashed a meaningful smile. “That was nothing. Honestly, I’m worried the challenges ahead will be just as childish. If that’s the case, it’ll be way too boring, not even worth my time or energy.”

Faye let out a cold laugh, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, you really are confident in yourself. Just make sure it’s not all talk. If you can’t deliver, you’ll just end up being everyone’s joke.”

With that, she turned around, her smile all surface and no warmth, and left with Xavier.

Ryan also left the hall with his two sons. As he passed by Victoria and Jackson, he sneered, “Jackson, looks like your grandpa really picked a good wife for you.”

Jackson smiled. “Uncle Ryan, Victoria was my choice.”

Ryan’s words carried a hidden meaning. “Oh? So she’s the apple of your eye, huh? You’d better keep a close watch on her, or something might happen to her by accident.”

Jackson’s smile was just as sharp. “Thanks for the reminder, Uncle Ryan. I’ll make sure to snuff out any accidents before they even get close to Victoria.”

“Too bad most plans can’t keep up with reality. No matter how careful you are, there’s always a chance something slips through the cracks,” Ryan said, then strode out of the hall.

Felix walked straight ahead without even glancing at Victoria, while Pierre gave her a dirty look and mouthed, “You’re dead.”

With that, Pierre stormed off after Felix.

As the Thornton family left, the hall fell silent, like someone had hit the mute button.

Gerry turned to Victoria. “Victoria, you’ve seen the situation for yourself. I can only give Jackson three months. If you can’t get him back on his feet, I won’t be able to hold back the pack of ambitious wolves in my family.”

After hearing Gerry, Victoria glanced at Jackson sitting in his wheelchair beside her.

Their eyes met, and a spark of trust and understanding flashed between them.

“Don’t worry,” Victoria said, her voice crisp and confident. “Three months is more than enough. Jackson will walk again. 1 guarantee it.”

At the engagement party venue, gorgeous chandeliers sparkled overhead, looking just like a sky full of stars. The tables were piled high with fancy food and drinks, and the buffet was a feast for the eyes. Every dish looked so good it made everyone’s mouth water.

As soon as Darell arrived at the engagement party, he spotted Sirena and her husband, Bater Clark, walking over with

Calvin.

After finding their seats, Darell leaned over and whispered to Bater, “Sirena said you could help me get a meeting with Mr.

Bater looked up and cut him off. “No rush.”

Truth was, he’d tried to get in touch with Stephan, but hadn’t been able to reach him. But after all that bragging in front of Sirena, there was no way he could admit he hadn’t pulled it off. He’d just be making a fool of himself.

‘Better to just play for time. he thought.

Since Bater was someone important, Darell didn’t dare to push him. He just tentatively asked, “I heard Mr. Cooke is coming to the engagement party tonight as an invited guest…”

At that. Bater’s eyes flickered. ‘Lucky break! Who would’ve thought Mr. Cooke would show up at this engagement party? Now I can act like I pulled some strings for Darell.

With that in mind, he put on a serious face. “Yeah, that’s exactly why I came with Sirena tonight. I wanted to show my face at the engagement party so Mr. Cooke sees you’re tied to the Clark family. Otherwise, with how busy I am, why else would I bother showing up tonight?”

‘Ah, that explains it!‘ Darell finally felt a weight lift off his shoulders.

Bater patted Darell on the shoulder. “When you see Mr. Cooke, just go over and say hi. Let him know you’re family with the Clarks, and see if he’d be up for dinner tomorrow.”

Darell looked a bit surprised. “You’re not coming with me?”

Bater said with a meaningful look, “This deal is yours. I can only get you this far.”

Darell glanced at Sirena, finally blurting out, “But I heard Mr. Cooke was actually invited by Victoria. I’m just worried…”

Sirena looked exasperated. “Come on, Darell, don’t tell me you let that kid fool you too. Mr. Cooke was definitely invited by the Thornton family. Victoria’s just a girl, no way she has that kind of pull. Just follow my husband’s advice and go talk to Mr. Cooke yourself. He’ll definitely show respect to the Clark family.”

Darell felt a little embarrassed for letting Victoria get in his head. He nodded. “Alright, I’m really grateful Bater is willing to show up for me. I’ll handle meeting Mr. Cooke myself, so you don’t need to worry about it anymore.”

As seven o’clock rolled around, pretty much all the guests had shown

dressed to impress.

There were hotshots from the business world, rocking their suits and looking confident. There were also politicians. carrying themselves with authority; and military officers, standing ramrod straight and really catching the eye.

With so many VIPs packed into one place, the whole scene was nothing short of epic.

Amidst all the excitement, Darell kept glancing toward the entrance, waiting for Stephan to show up.

Before Darell could finish, Stephan’s face darkened and he cut him off coldly. “So you’re the one who refused to acknowledge Victoria as your own daughter, and ended up as her uncle after she cut you off? Blind as a bat!”
