Hearing Victoria’s words, the guests who hadn’t been poisoned suddenly snapped back to reality, realizing what needed to be done.
“Yeah, yeah, we need to figure out how to help them get rid of the poison, and fast!”
“Exactly! Who cares about blame right now?”
The poisoned guests, though they totally agreed, were so weak from the effects of the toxin that they couldn’t even speak. All they could manage were faint groans from their throats in response.
“Some things are more urgent than others. Whether I brought these poisonous creatures here on purpose or not, I’ll explain later. Right now, the top priority is detoxifying the guests who were bitten,” Victoria said calmly.
Jackson, keeping his composure, added, “Everyone, after we’ve helped the poisoned guests, I promise I’ll give everyone a proper explanation about what happened tonight.”
Just then, a highly esteemed figure from the medical community stepped out of the crowd. He scanned the area with a grave look on his face.
“I’ll handle the emergency care for those who’ve been poisoned first, then we’ll send them to the hospital for more advanced
treatment!”
The poisoned guests‘ faces turned a deep purple, their bodies trembling as they struggled to lift arms that felt impossibly heavy. Barely able to speak, one whispered, “Doctor, please… help me first, give me emergency care…”
“I’m begging you, save me…”
Desperate pleas echoed through the air, rising and falling all around.
At that moment, Angelica’s face, usually so gentle, was twisted in pain, with beads of sweat rolling down her forehead.
She bit down hard on her jaw, but still couldn’t hold back her moans.
Seeing his sister suffering like this, Simon felt his heart shatter. He couldn’t hold back his desperation and yelled, “Doctor, please, whatever it takes, help my sister first! Just do whatever it takes to save her!”
The doctor everyone pinned their hopes on swept his gaze over all the poisoned guests, his brow creasing with concern.
There were eight people in total who had fallen victim to the poison.
Seeing this, he felt overwhelmed. Shaking his head in frustration, he sighed, “With so many poisoned at once, I can’t possibly manage this alone.”
Just as everyone was getting desperate, the Thornton family’s doctor forced his way through the crowd with two trained nurses, carrying medical kits loaded with emergency supplies and equipment.
They approached Jackson, who was in his wheelchair, and nodded respectfully. The family doctor said, “The situation is urgent. I’m here to assist you with the emergency care.”
At those words, a look of relief flashed across the senior doctor’s face. He nodded eagerly. “Great!”
Without wasting a second, the two doctors immediately split up, rushing to check the poisoned guests and begin emergency
treatment.

But two minutes later, the senior doctor’s face grew even more grim. “No, the toxins are way too potent. I can’t handle this here. We need to rush them to the hospital for emergency rescue right away.”
Cassian, standing in the crowd, spoke up bluntly. “With their current condition, it’ll take at least twenty minutes to get them to the hospital. By then, it could already be too late for them.”
As he finished speaking, he shot a look at Victoria, a challenge flickering in his eyes, looking increasingly pleased with himself.
‘Let them fight, let them stir things up,‘ he thought. ‘The more chaos, the better. If even one of these eight poisoned people dies, Victoria will be done for!‘
‘Let’s see how she tries to get out of this mess, and how Jackson plans to fix things for her! Will Granpa really risk everything to protect a future granddaughter–in–law who hasn’t even officially joined the family yet?‘
Victoria noticed Cassian’s smug expression and shot him a contemptuous smirk.
Seeing her reaction, Cassian’s smug grin instantly faltered. ‘Seriously? Things are this dire, and she’s not even a little bit
nervous?‘
The senior doctor’s frown deepened, his face growing even more serious. “You’re right. At this point, I’ll do what I can. If I can save even one, that’s better than nothing.”
At those words, panic set in among all the poisoned guests, Angelica included. Everyone desperately hoped they’d be the first to get help, not the one who gets passed over.
Angelica weakly shook her head, holding onto Simon’s arm, her voice trembling as she whispered, “Simon… I don’t think I can make it. If you take me to the hospital now, it might be too late for me already.”
Her skin, lips, and fingernails were all turning dark purple, a stark contrast to her usual fair complexion.
Simon squeezed Angelica’s hand desperately, then turned to the doctor and pleaded, “I’m not losing her! Doctor, please, I beg you. Save my sister first! She’s so young, so brilliant. She doesn’t deserve to die like this!”
The senior doctor looked at Angelica in Simon’s arms and shook his head. “Her poisoning is too severe. She’ll be much harder to treat. Right now, I can only start emergency care for those with milder symptoms.”
After saying that, he headed straight for the woman whose symptoms were the least serious.
Angelica’s eyes went dull with shock. She couldn’t believe it. ‘Am I really about to die in my prime? No, this can’t be happening! How could I just die like this?‘
Simon was desperate, feeling powerless, then suddenly, an idea struck him. He anxiously scanned the crowd, searching for anyone who might be able to help.
At last, he spotted Alexis, the owner of Benwig City’s largest auction house.
“Mr. White, didn’t you say you know a poison expert? Can you call her right now and ask her to come over, or see if she has a quick way to detoxify them?”
Alexis shot a glance at Victoria. The poison expert was right here. But since Victoria wasn’t saying anything, Alexis didn’t dare make a move on his own. He hesitated, looking conflicted, and said, “Mr. Binder, like I told you, the poison expert only reaches out to me when she wants. And I’ve already mentioned, she’ll show up at the auction house tomorrow.”
With the poison expert route blocked, Simon clenched his fists, throwing caution to the wind. He let go of Angelica, shot to his feet, and marched straight up to the senior doctor. “Doctor, you have to save Angelica first. I don’t care what it takes!”
