Jackson’s icy words knocked the wind out of Cassian, leaving him reeling and utterly powerless. All his prepared defenses evaporated in an instant.
His breath came in short, ragged gasps, as if an invisible hand were squeezing his throat. His vision blurred, everything around him twisting and fading into a haze. The voices around him were a jumbled mess, making his head spin.
“No… Jackson… I didn’t…” he could only mutter.
Donald, who had been silent the whole time, let his gaze flicker for a moment before quickly regaining his composure.
Cassian had been the one handling everything from start to finish. Donald hadn’t laid a finger on any of it. So even if Jackson managed to dig up solid proof, there was no way he could pin it on Donald.
“So it’s true. Jackson’s legs were crippled by his own ungrateful little brother!”
“That’s a double blow for Jackson! Not only are his legs ruined, but he gets stabbed in the back by his adopted sister and his own brother!”
“Gerry must be furious. He finally had such an outstanding grandson, and with Jackson at the helm, the Thornton family’s future looked bright. Now, Cassian has ruined it all.”
“Looks like the rumors were right. Gerry sent Cassian away because he thought he’d bring bad luck to the Thornton family. And now, the moment he’s back, he’s already ruined Jackson, the family’s golden boy.”
Jackson gave a slight nod and shot Ollie a look. Ollie immediately caught on and respectfully handed over the evidence they’d painstakingly dug up to Gerry.
Gerry took the thick stack from Ollie and flipped through it with sharp, focused eyes.
Soon, his previously calm face twisted as a surge of uncontrollable rage swept over his weathered features, turning his expression stormy and cold.
“Bring Cassian here!” Gerry barked, slamming the stack shut, his voice rough with fury.
Before Gerry’s words had even finished echoing, two bodyguards grabbed Cassian’s arms without a hint of mercy, dragging him in front of Gerry.
“Kneel!” Gerry barked, his voice booming with authority.
Cassian was already feeling guilty and weak. When Gerry’s furious shout hit him, his mind went completely blank. He didn’t even have time to think. His legs buckled, he shuddered involuntarily, and collapsed to his knees with a heavy thud.
“Cassian, if Jackson hadn’t pleaded for you, do you really think you’d ever be allowed back into the Thornton family? And instead of showing any gratitude, you conspired with your father’s bastard daughter to harm your own brother!“.
Gerry trembled with rage. Pointing at Cassian, who was kneeling on the ground, he shouted sternly, “Or, is Victoria right that you’re not Jackson’s biological brother at all? That you’re just like Sibley, an illegitimate child Donald had outside?”
As soon as Gerry said that, Donald rushed forward, “Dad, that’s not true at all! Cassian really is Jackson’s brother, I swear!
Gerry shot his most disappointing son a cold glare. “Jackson hasn’t found anything, so I’ll trust you for now. But what Cassian did tonight must be solved right now.”
Except for Angelica, who was still being treated, the other seven poisoned guests had mostly recovered. Their eyes burned

with murderous rage as they stared at Cassian. “Gerry, Cassian did this to us. You better not let him get away with this
Cassian, still kneeling on the ground, was shaking uncontrollably, fear written all over his face.
Gerry’s voice was low and commanding. “Tonight, Cassian is yours. Do whatever you want, just make sure he stays alive?
One of the poisoned men, finally back on his feet, couldn’t take it anymore. He stormed over and kicked Cassian so hard that Cassian crashed to the floor, flat on his back.
Still not satisfied, he stomped down on Cassian’s chest twice, and each stomp was brutal.
“Ah…” Cassian cried out in pain.
“You worthless bastard! You almost got me killed! Is your pathetic life enough to pay for that?”
“If Jackson wasn’t shielding you, do you really think a loser like you could ever come back to the Thornton family and live it up as a pampered heir?”
“A total loser like you dared to try and take Jackson’s spot? Dream on!”
The man kept cursing as he aimed kicks right at Cassian’s head.
Cassian could only clutch his head in agony, just curling up and letting the guy beat him down.
Donald shot Gerry a look. But seeing him wasn’t about to step in, Donaled clamped his mouth shut. He didn’t dare say a word in Cassian’s defense. If he did, he’d just get himself caught up in the mess.
The other six poisoned guests saw what was happening and couldn’t hold back their pent–up rage any longer.
“Gerry, just so we’re clear, Cassian’s gonna pay for what he did. As long as we don’t kill him, that’s all you care about, right?”
“That’s right. Just don’t kill him. The Thornton family will settle compensation fast, until you’re satisfied,” Gerry replied, trying to calm them down.
“Good, with your word, we’ll drag Cassian off tonight and handle him ourselves,” the man said.
Gerry didn’t object. “Go ahead.”
Jackson shot his father a look of disbelief. “Dad, Cassian’s your son. Are you really just going to stand there and let him be humiliated like this?”
“If I’d known he’d do something like this to his own brother, I’d have been the first to beat him down!” Donald said, then walked over and kicked Cassian, knocking him right back to the floor.
Cassian lay on the ground, staring at his father in shock, but he quickly saw the hint in Donald’s eyes and got the message.
‘As long as Dad stays out of trouble, I’ve still got a chance. I can’t let him get dragged down with me, Cassian thought.
“Jackson, Victoria, after everything that’s happened, we can’t stick around for your engagement party,” the poisoned guests. said, looking at Victoria with genuine respect and gratitude. “Thanks to you, Victoria, we’re still alive, otherwise, we’d be
done for!”
Victoria smiled. “The poison’s gone, but your bodies are still a bit weak. You’ll need some time to recover. I’ll prepare some medicine for each of you, and it’ll be sent over together with Gerry’s compensation.”
“Thanks, Victoria,” the seven guests said, then turned to the Binder family, genuinely impressed. “Calvin, Victoria’s skills are

Calvin was still worried about Simon, but hearing everyone praise Victoria made him feel both anxious and proud. He said, half worried, half proud, “Yeah, ever since Victoria came back, she’s been full of surprises.”
The poisoned guests shot Darell and his family a look of pure contempt, their voices dripping with sarcasm.
“What a shame Darell’s family is so clueless. They can’t even see the treasure right in front of them. If it were me, I’d be putting Victoria on a pedestal!”
“Not only did they turn their backs on her, but Simon actually teamed up with Cassian, plotting to harm their own sister.”
“The narrow–minded and downright inhuman people like them are bound to get their karma sooner or later. Regret won’t save them now.”
Listening to all these public digs, Darell and Julia’s faces turned uglier by the second.
The lead poisoned guest suddenly switched gears, glaring at Darell and Julia. “Simon was in on this mess tonight. So, Darell, Julia, how are you planning to deal with him?”
