Chapter 143
Julia’s startled scream caught the attention of everyone around.
Angelica snapped back to her senses. She reached up to touch her face and cried out, quickly jerking her hand away.
Why does my face feel so awful all of a sudden?‘
She used to love how smooth and soft her skin felt, even without a mirror. But now, her palm told her it was as rough and lumpy as a pig’s snout.
“Oh my god, if I didn’t know that was Angelica, I wouldn’t have recognized her at all. How did her face get so swollen?
“It’s probably the poison.”
“Do you think the swelling will ever go down? Is she going to stay like this forever? That’s so gross.”
Hearing everyone whispering about her appearance, Angelica panicked. She hurriedly turned to Julia and said, “Mom, give me a mirror…”
Julia frowned, a trace of distaste in her eyes. “Angelica, maybe you shouldn’t look right now. I’m worried you’ll be scared by how you look,”
Angelica’s heart skipped a beat. ‘How awful must I look right now?‘
The renowned doctor glanced at Angelica and replied to Julia, “There’s nothing more I can do. Your daughter was poisoned too deeply, and the treatment came too late. The poison has already spread to her head. Even though I’ve done everything ! can to detoxify her, my skills can’t compare to Victoria’s.”
“So, the remaining poison will cause some serious aftereffects. The swelling in her feet is just the beginning. She might also experience intermittent numbness in her legs. We’ll need to keep a close eye on her for any other complications.”
Julia quickly asked, “Doctor, will the swelling on my daughter’s face go down?”
The doctor answered truthfully, “Once the remaining poison is cleared from her body, the swelling will subside. But as long as any poison is left inside, she can’t fully recover her old appearance.”
Julia staggered, barely regaining her composure before blurting out, “Doctor, isn’t there any way you can help my daughter remove all traces of the poison from her body?”
The doctor answered with a heavy tone, “The poison has spread throughout her bloodstream. If you want to eliminate it entirely, you might have to consider a complete blood exchange.”
Before Julia could even respond, Angelica cried out desperately, “Mom, I want a blood exchange!”
She absolutely couldn’t bear the idea of having to live with such a hideous face. It would be torture, even worse than dying.
The doctor said, “A full–body blood transfusion isn’t something doctors usually do. It’s only used in extreme cases, like severe poisoning, certain autoimmune diseases, or blood disorders. For your daughter, it’ll cost a fortune, and you’ll need a ton of blood to make it happen.”
Julia rushed to say, “Don’t worry about the money. We’ll get the blood, whatever it takes!”
“Even a full–body blood transfusion won’t do Angelica any good,” Victoria said, pushing Jackson’s wheelchair toward them at a leisurely pace, her voice dripping with exaggerated drama. “The poison isn’t just in her blood. It’s already seeped deep into her skin. The longer you drag this out, the more her skin will fester and fall apart.”

The thought of her skin festering made Angelica shudder from head to toe. She bit her lip hard and shook her head desperately. “No, I don’t want to end up like that! I don’t want to look like a freak!”
As she spoke, her eyes met Jackson’s, and for a moment, it was like she could see her ugly self reflected in his deep, dark eyes. Angelica hurriedly covered her face, begging, “Jackson, please don’t look at me…
Jackson just shot her a cold, uninterested look and turned away, his face as blank as ever. He never bothered to look at her
even when she was pretty, so now that her face was swollen and ugly, he was even less interested.
Angelica, lost and desperate, suddenly remembered something. She looked up at Victoria, begging desperately, “Victoria, can you help me detoxify….I’m begging you…”
Victoria spoke with a regretful tone, “If you’d accepted my help when I offered, I could have detoxified you in time. But you missed your chance.”
Despair filled Angelica’s eyes. ‘How could I have known I’d end up disfigured?‘
Seeing Angelica looking absolutely shell–shocked, Victoria smirked in satisfaction as she pushed Jackson’s wheelchair toward the stage.
Jackson asked, “Vickie, I’m curious. Was Angelica getting bitten just a coincidence, or did you have something to do with it?”
“That was all me,” Victoria answered without a second thought. “I made sure that scorpion went straight for Angelica. With an opportunity like that, do you really think I’d let her get away unscathed?”
‘Figures,‘ Jackson thought to himself.
His eyes flashed with a knowing smile. “Too bad she didn’t confess to hurting you.”
Victoria chuckled softly. “Doesn’t matter. The fact that she’s going to be disfigured will torment Angelica for the rest of her life. Every day, she’ll regret not confessing when she had the chance. That’s real torture for her.”
After Victoria and Jackson left, Julia looked at Angelica, whose face was so disfigured she could barely stand to look at her. Fighting back her revulsion, Julia tried to comfort her. “Angelica, don’t worry. Victoria might not be telling the truth. Let’s at least try the blood transfusion at the hospital first!”
With tears in her eyes, Angelica nodded feebly. “Okay.”
Back when Angelica cried, she looked delicate and pitiful, like a flower in the rain. But now, with her face so swollen she looked like a pig, her tears just looked ridiculous and forced.
The rich boys who used to have a crush on Angelica were nearly sick to their stomachs.
“Just looking at her hurts my eyes. Let’s go, I don’t want to see this anymore.”
“If even a blood transfusion can’t fix her, her life is basically over stuck with that face.”
“Serves her right. If anyone’s to blame, it’s Simon for roping in that loser Cassian just to try and set up Victoria.”
The crowd of onlookers scattered, each heading back to their own seat.
Angelica couldn’t stand the looks of disgust anymore. She pleaded desperately, “Mom… Can we go to the hospital right
now?”
Julia was just as anxious to get Simon to the hospital, so she nodded. “Okay, let’s go to the hospital right now.”
The chaos caused by all those poisonous critters was pretty wild, but thanks to Gerry and Jackson jumping into action and

handling the evacuation and keeping everyone safe, the engagement party venue stayed pretty much spotless.
Up on stage, Jackson faced the guests and said, “I’m really sorry for the fright tonight at our engagement party. Thanks for staying to witness our ceremony.”
With that, he took out a beautifully designed ring box from his pocket and opened it with heartfelt sincerity in front of Victoria, his dark eyes shining with love.
“Vickie, meeting you at the lowest point in my life has been the greatest blessing I’ve ever had. Before I met you, I didn’t understand what love was. After meeting you, I believe in love at first sight. Today, in front of so many witnesses, I want to give myself to you. Will you accept me?”
