Jackson didn’t show any anger at all. He just gave a faint smile. “With Vickie treating me, I definitely won’t need that wheelchair you were planning to give me. But you should keep it for yourself. With your brains and your love for drama, you might really get your legs busted someday. Then you’ll be glad you have it.”

Pierre frowned, clearly annoyed. “Bro, I’m just trying to look out for you, and now you’re cursing me to get my legs broken?”

“How is that a curse? Jack’s just being nice and giving you a heads–up. You better watch your mouth and your temper, or you’ll end up just like Sibley and Cassian,” Victoria jumped in, with a full–on mockery in her voice.

“And Jack doesn’t need your concern. You guys should worry about yourselves. You’re part of the Thornton family, but you don’t even have the right to stay at Thornton Manor. Now you gotta drag yourselves home in the dead of night. If you aren’t careful and get into a car accident, your whole family might just die together, nice and neat.”

Pierre’s face flushed bright red with anger, veins popping on his forehead as he shouted, “Why is your mouth so poisonous? Wishing my whole family dead? You’re just like a snake spitting venom!”

Victoria crossed her arms, a mocking smirk tugging at her lips. “Oh, I’m not just poisonous with my words. My heart’s as ruthless as a snake or a scorpion. Wanna find out for yourself?”

Pierre was completely provoked by Victoria’s words. He straightened up, acting all fearless, and yelled, “Haha! What am I afraid of? Tonight, I’ll see just how fierce you really are!”

With that, he took a step forward, looking like he was about to teach Victoria a lesson.

Just then, Ryan finally had enough. He frowned and snapped, “Alright, that’s enough! Cut it out with the trash talk!”

Victoria flashed a confident smile. “No worries. Let your precious son show off all he wants. I couldn’t care less. With what he’s got, he’ll never be a match for me no matter how hard he tries.”

She finished with a pointed eyebrow raise at Pierre.

Jackson burst out laughing at that.

Pierre clenched his jaw, glaring daggers at Victoria. “You clueless little brat, don’t think I’m scared of you. It’s just that a real man doesn’t bother messing with girls!”

“Listen, girl, just because the Cooke family’s got your back doesn’t mean you can walk around like you own the place,” Ryan warned Victoria. Then he shot Jackson a look and left with his two sons.

Not long after, Thomas and his family came over.

Thomas and his wife left right away without saying a word.

“Jack, your wife’s a real powerhouse, and there are plenty of guys out there after her. You better keep an eye on her, or she might just run off. With your legs like this, you wouldn’t even be able to catch up,” Faye teased, flashing Jackson a playful grin.

Before Jackson could even get a word out, Victoria already cracked her knuckles and said impatiently. “Seriously, what’s with you guys? Every single one of you is such a wimp.”

Faye blinked, totally confused. “Huh?”

Victoria snorted, “I can’t stand you chickens. You can’t even diss someone to their face. If you had a little guts. I’d just throw down right here.”

Xavier, standing off to the side, said coldly. “Let’s go. No point wasting words on her

Faye dropped her smile, shot Victoria a look, and without another word, followed Xavier out.

Victoria let out a helpless sigh. “Seriously? They just bailed. I didn’t even get a chance to roast them.”

Jackson gave her a doting smile. “What can I say? Your mouth is just made for shutting down all that snark.”

“Victoria, you’re amazing!“.

Annie ran up from behind Victoria, still holding the scented pouch Victoria had given her earlier.

She looked at Victoria with pure admiration. “Victoria, when you whistled with that leaf I picked for you and chased away all those poisonous bugs and snakes, you were totally badass! I’ve only ever seen stuff like that on TV!

“And on TV, people can even use leaves as darts. Can you do that too, Victoria?”

Victoria laughed at Annie’s barrage of questions. “I can throw silver needles like darts, but leaves? That’s one skill I haven’t figured out yet.”

“Silver needles as darts? You mean the ones you used to detoxify people? That’s amazing!” Annie’s eyes were practically popping with pink bubbles of admiration.

“Alright, Annie, don’t overwhelm Victoria,” Helen said as she walked over with her husband.

Annie immediately straightened up, looking a bit embarrassed.

Helen walked up and gave Victoria a thorough once–over, a hint of envy flickering in her eyes.

Victoria was in her prime, so unapologetically confident and bold.

Back then, Helen had wanted to be someone like that too, someone who could really shine. But she didn’t have the means or the guts to fight for her place in a family as big as the Thorntons, so she just stuck by her husband and built a life from the ground up, away from all the family drama.

After Annie was born, Helen had hoped to raise her daughter to be just as outstanding, to be every bit as good as any man, and maybe even hold her own in the Thornton family. But Annie was never one to fight or scramble for anything. She seemed happier just living a simple, comfortable life.

In the end, Helen figured it was better to just let Annie follow her own path.

Besides, with someone as talented as Jackson in Annie’s generation, pushing her to compete would just be throwing her into the fire. It’s safer for Annie to just stay neutral and keep things simple.

But now, seeing how much Annie likes her future sister–in–law, Helen thought maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Annie to get close to the true Binder heiress. Maybe they could look out for each other in the future, just like earlier at the engagement party, when Victoria handed Annie that protective sachet during the whole poisonous bugs and snakes fiasco.

Thinking of this, Helen spoke gently, “Victoria, since you and Jackson are getting married, it should be him taking care of you. But with things as they are, until you heal his legs, he’ll be needing you to look after him a bit more.”

Victoria gave a gentle smile. “Jack and I are gonna be married soon, so looking out for each other is just part of the deal

Jackson chimed in, “Thanks for looking out for us, Aunt Helen.”

Helen said, “It’s been a long tiring night. Go home and get some rest. We will head out.”

Victoria and Jackson nodded together. “See you, Aunt Helen.”

Annic, who was trailing behind, pulled out her phone, opened her phone, and turned to Victoria with a big grin. “Hey, Victoria, let’s save each other’s number! Let’s keep in touch!”

“Sure,” Victoria replied, taking out her phone and save Annie’s number.

Annie excitedly saved Victoria’s number and set her contact’s name to “My Awesome Sister–in–Law.”

After saving the contact, she tucked her phone away, looked up, and waved. “Jack, Victoria, I’m heading out now. Bye!”

Watching Annie jog off to catch up with her family, Victoria sighed, “Annie really is a breath of fresh air in the Thornton family.”

Jackson chuckled. “Annie and I weren’t really close before, and Aunt Helen has always stayed neutral. But it’s obvious Annie looks up to you. She’s totally your little fangirl now.”

Victoria flashed a smug grin. “See? I’m awesome. I just helped you recruit a teammate.”

Jackson laughed. “Yeah, you really are something else.”

Victoria admitted Jackson’s compliments really hit the spot. She stretched lazily. “Alright, I’m heading home with my parents.”

Jackson gazed at Victoria, clearly reluctant to let her go, and sighed softly. “I can’t believe we have to part ways again so soon. I’m really looking forward to the day we finally get to share a bed.”

Victoria grinned teasingly, “Come on, you’ve survived all these years. What’s three more months?”

Jackson chuckled, “Vickie, what are you thinking? I meant it literally. I just want to be with you. And honestly, it’s not like t was abstaining all this time.”

Victoria’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait, you weren’t abstaining? So you’ve already slept with someone?”
