Daisy shot back, her tone sharp. “If your daughter gets bullied and you swallow it, calling that being sensible, that’s what brings shame to the family.”
Miranda frowned. “I didn’t expect you to get so sharp–tongued, Mrs. Binder. I guess your newly recognized daughter has had quite an influence on you.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Victoria. Though Victoria’s bold attitude was off–putting, Miranda had to admit that she was impressed by Victoria’s composure. Victoria didn’t show a hint of fear in front of her.
“I don’t know what kind of magic this Binder girl has, but she’s got so many people in Benwig City suddenly looking at her differently,” Miranda said.
At that, Daisy didn’t even hesitate. “Because Victoria is more than qualified.”
“Qualified?” Miranda scoffed, unimpressed. She didn’t believe any of the rumors about Victoria.
She sneered, “Benwig City is full of talented young people. How impressive could a country girl who sells herbal remedies and pretends to be a doctor really be?”
Daisy shot back, “That’s because you’re getting old. It’s easy to miss the bigger picture.”
Victoria burst out laughing and praised, “Mom, your words are getting more savage these days.”
Daisy blushed instantly. “Not really. Compared to you, I’m not quite there yet.”
Miranda was at a loss for words.
‘Are they seriously trying to outdo each other right now?‘ she thought, exasperated.
After holding her position for so many years, Miranda had never been disrespected like this, especially not by two juniors from families that didn’t measure up to hers.
Her voice turned icy, and she sneered, “Last night’s engagement party between Victoria and Jackson was quite the spectacle. Even though the Clark family wasn’t invited, I saw the news.
“It was grand, to say the least. Clearly, it’s not just Jackson. Even Gerry is more than satisfied with his future granddaughter-
in–law…”
Before she could finish, Daisy cut in, “Exactly. Gerry has way more sense than you. He recognizes how exceptional Victoria
is.”
Miranda’s expression soured. “Oh, really? What a joke. The whole Benwig City elite used to rave about how brilliant Jackson was, saying once he became the heir, the Thornton family would pull way ahead of the rest of us.
“But honestly, he’s nothing special. First, his own brother crippled him, and now he’s bowing down to a young girl like her.
“And Gerry? I heard he’s been frail ever since that serious illness.
“Who would’ve thought he’d get so muddled that he’d accept a girl like her? Looks like the Thornton family is on the brink
now.”
Victoria waved her hand dismissively. “Why are you so concerned about the Binder and Thornton families, Mrs. Clark?
“I won’t comment on anything else, but as long as I’m the one taking care of Gerry, he’ll live longer than you.”

“You little brat!” Miranda snapped, her face flushing with anger. “Are you cursing me to die young?”

Sirena was shocked. She’d always assumed Victoria only dared to disrespect the elders in the Binder family, but she had totally misunderstood Victoria.
Victoria had no qualms about putting any elder in their place, no matter who they were. Even Miranda wasn’t spared from her sharp tongue.
Bater couldn’t take Victoria disrespecting his mother like that. He stormed over, threatening, “So you really came to the Clark family looking for trouble, huh?
“Fine, I’ll deal with you right here and now. Let’s see if that old geezer from the Binder family has the guts to stand up to the Clark family over this!”
With that, he snatched up a walkie–talkie from the couch and barked into it, “Get a few people to the main hall, now!”
Daisy felt a surge of anxiety. Gerry had told them to bring bodyguards, but Victoria insisted they wouldn’t need any, so they’d come without a single one.
‘But what if Bater really tries to lay a hand on us? What are we supposed to do?‘ Daisy thought, her nerves on edge.
Seeing Bater finally lose his cool and get ready to go after Victoria, Sirena looked downright smug. “Victoria, let’s see if you can still act tough now.”
Victoria glanced at her, pretending to feel sorry. “Aunt Sirena, if I were you, I wouldn’t be so thrilled.”
Sirena stared, not getting it.
Victoria continued, “Last night at my engagement party, Bater knew I made you apologize. Even today, when I came to the Clark family and made you do it again, he didn’t bother to stand up for you.
“But now, because I teased his mom a little, he’s ready to lose his temper and come at me.
“Don’t you think that’s sad? As his wife, you mean nothing to him. So what are you so happy about?”
Sirena just stared, at a loss for words.
She knew it all too well. She’d already vented about it a million times. What else could she do? It was not like complaining would change anything.
All she could do was keep telling herself, “Who cares? I’ve got endless cash anyway.”
Victoria exposed her without missing a beat. “If you really had unlimited money in the Clark family, why bother coming back to make a scene and gamble with me?
‘It’s obvious you’re not here because you can’t stand me or want to put me down. You’re after a chunk of the Binder family’s inheritance, aren’t you?”
Sirena was stunned into silence, glared at Victoria, and kept her mouth shut.
Just then, four big, burly bodyguards rushed in from outside.
‘Grab these two women. Make them apologize to my mom!” Bater barked out the order.
Messing with his wife was one thing, but messing with his mom? That was crossing the line.

Daisy instantly grabbed Victoria’s hand, her heart pounding with anxiety.
Victoria shook her head at Daisy, telling her not to worry. Before the four bodyguards could get close, she slipped her hand free, flicked four silver needles from her sleeve, and sent them flying in a blur.
The bodyguards felt a sudden sting in their necks, and before they could react, they all dropped to the floor, foaming at the mouth and convulsing uncontrollably.
Seeing this, Daisy suddenly realized that she’d seen Victoria pull this move before. Julia had gotten hit by it, too.
‘Guess I really didn’t need to worry. Victoria’s got it covered, Daisy thought, relieved.
Sirena was startled, staring at the four bodyguards on the floor. “What did you do to them?”
Bater was as stunned, caught off guard by what was happening.
Miranda was eyeing Victoria even harder, clearly more suspicious than before.
Victoria shrugged. “You saw what just happened. We’re not letting this slide. So, what’s your next move?
“Are you going to try and take us on, or are you planning to wipe out the Binder family?”
Bater, on edge and afraid he might end up like those bodyguards, shot them a warning. “You two must have no clue how the Clark family built our empire and got to the top.
“If you did, you wouldn’t have the guts to raise hell in our house!”
“Oh, that’s where you’re wrong, Mr. Clark. I know all about how your family rose to power,” Victoria said.
After all, Victoria knew that once she was back with the Binder family, she’d have to deal with all the power players in Benwig City.
There was no way she’d let Mara skip out on investigating every single one of them, especially the real heavyweights in Benwig City.
Victoria said, “The Thornton family has always kept their hands clean, no shady business, just legit operations.
“Every heir who’s taken charge has had a sharp mind and a knack for seeing the big picture, always staying ahead of the game when the market shifts.
“They built their status step by step, grabbing every chance, and that’s how they ended up on top.
“The Campbell family? They’ve got a strong background in medical research, with solid government backing.
“Their growth has been steady, and their foundation is rock solid.
“The Fairbank family cashed in on the biggest internet boom, but they missed out on the emerging markets.
‘So a lot of their market share got snatched up by others. Now they’re starting to lose steam and slip downhill.”
And as for the Clark family…” Victoria stopped, giving Miranda a pointed, knowing look.
