“Vickie?” Victoria let out a mocking smile. “That’s quite the affectionate nickname. It takes me back to when I first came back to the Binder family, and you visited me for the first time. Back then, you barely even spoke to
me.”
Simon’s hand, holding the shopping bag, froze in mid–air.
Victoria glanced down at the luxury brand logo on the packaging and kept up her sarcasm. “You were all tough talk at the auction earlier, and now you show up with a gift this afternoon. No way you picked this out for me ahead of time, right? So, it was meant for Angelica, but you figured it’d be more useful to butter me up instead. Am I right?”
She’d hit the nail on the head, and Simon’s face turned awkward. He was left awkwardly holding out the bag, unsure whether to retract it or not.
“Simon, seriously, think it through. If I actually took that bag and your precious Angelica found out it was supposed to be hers, but you handed it to me instead, she’d hate me even more. Lucky for you, I honestly don’t care if she hates me. Otherwise, you’d be dumping all your drama on me,” Victoria mocked.
“Go ahead and give the bag to Angelica. I couldn’t care less about it,” she scoffed.
“Fine, I’ll give you a shot to actually talk to me, but not today. Come back when you’ve figured out what you really want to say,” Victoria said.
Simon’s face went even paler. “I get it,” he mumbled, awkwardly lowering the bag and turning to leave.
Simon trudged away, his steps weighed down with worry.
He’d already done what Victoria wanted–rescued Yvonne from Pierre’s grasp—and all he got was a shot at talking to her. Now, he had no clue what he was supposed to do next to get Victoria to cure him and let him live.
Once Simon was out of sight, Victoria finally turned her attention to Yvonne, whom he’d brought back.
Yvonne was gorgeous–her features were delicate, her skin pale as snow. She looked like a lotus blooming in the mud, yet untouched by a single speck of dirt, giving off an almost fairy–like vibe, as if she didn’t belong to this world at all.
When Victoria glanced at her, Yvonne immediately bowed deeply, her voice full of genuine gratitude. “Ms. Binder, thank you so much. If you hadn’t sent Mr. Binder to rescue me, Pierre would’ve destroyed me.”
Victoria didn’t waste any time. “I saved you for a reason. I want to sign you to Brightstar Entertainment. If you agree, I’ll make sure you’re protected, so Pierre won’t ever mess with you again.”
“Absolutely!” Yvonne answered without a second thought. “I’ll do everything I can to make money for you, Ms. Binder!”
To Yvonne, Victoria was like a second mother–her savior who gave her a new lease on life. She’d gladly go all out for her, even if it meant working herself to the bone.

Victoria smiled, clearly pleased. I’m not some heartless boss, but I’m not running a charity either. If I sign you, I’ll give you all the resources you need to shine. Just don’t get caught up in scandals and focus on making me money”
“Absolutely!” Yvonne nodded with determination.
Victoria asked, “What’s your name?”
Yvonne replied, “Yvonne Rich”
Victoria nodded. “Alright, come to Brightstar Entertainment on the first of next month.”
After that, Victoria called Mara and told her to get Yvonne settled somewhere safe and keep her protected, so Pierre wouldn’t be able to find or harass her.
After sorting everything out, Victoria returned to the villa and found a stranger lounging on the living room couch.
For a moment, she couldn’t tell if the person was male or female.
Hearing her come in, the stranger turned to Victoria with a blank face. “Hello, Ms. Binder. Name’s 001, your personal bodyguard.”
Victoria arched her brow, a hint of skepticism in her eyes. A personal bodyguard?‘
Just then, Daisy came downstairs after her nap, smiling warmly. “Victoria, you’re back.”
Victoria took a seat next to 001, giving them a thorough once–over. “Mom, what’s the deal with this?”
Daisy walked over and explained, “This is a robot your dad spent twenty years developing. He programmed it specifically to protect you. From now on, 001 will be your personal bodyguard.”
Victoria was genuinely surprised. She never expected her awesome stepdad to be this impressive. He actually managed to create a robot that looked so real.
But more than just surprise, she felt a wave of happiness wash over her.
Her awesome stepdad had spent twenty years on this robot, and he just handed it over to her. Even though she wasn’t his own flesh and blood.
Thinking about it, Victoria looked at Daisy and said, “Mom, you and Dad must have always wanted a child of your own, right?”
Daisy was caught off guard.
Victoria hesitated for a moment, then spoke honestly. “Mom, I never brought up getting you and Dad checked or treated for having trouble conceiving because, well, you’re not exactly in your twenties anymore. Having a baby now would be really tough on your body, and the risks are just too high. Honestly, I just don’t want you risking your life for a baby. Even if I think I’m a pretty good doctor, I can’t promise everything will go smoothly during pregnancy and delivery…”

Chapter 162
Daisy smiled softly. “I understand, Victoria. You really don’t need to worry about it. Your dad and I are honestly happy just having you. That’s all we need, really.”
Victoria slipped her arm around Daisy and leaned her head on her shoulder. “Mom, I just don’t want anything to happen to you. Maybe I’m being selfish, but that’s how I feel.”
During her time as a doctor, Victoria once had to handle an emergency delivery for an older woman.
The woman’s placenta detached too early, and the labor progressed too quickly for a natural birth. They were way out in the countryside, nowhere near a hospital. Victoria wasn’t specialized in this field, but with no other choice, she stepped up and performed a C–section herself.
Unexpectedly, the woman started bleeding out during the surgery. Victoria fought desperately to stop the hemorrhage, quickly handled the baby, and sent them both to the hospital for follow–up care.
That’s why she really didn’t want her beautiful stepmom risking her life for a child. After all, her stepmom was already forty–six–even if things went smoothly, it’d still take a huge toll on her body.
Daisy was genuinely happy. “Victoria, the fact that you care about me like this makes me really happy.”
001, standing nearby, scanned them with its eyes. After a quick burst of data processing, it stated in a flat, robotic voice, “My analysis indicates your mother–daughter affection is at 100%.”
Daisy looked a bit embarrassed at that.
She really did love Victoria, but having 001 announce her feelings so bluntly made Daisy feel a bit embarrassed.
Victoria straightened up and looked at 001. “You can analyze emotions like that?”
001 answered, “Yes, Ms. Binder. If you need me to, there’s nothing I can’t do.”
Victoria grinned. “Alright, 001, you’ll be my assistant and bodyguard from now on.”
001 replied, “At your service, Ms. Binder.”

In a dim, oppressive chamber, the air was so thick with tension it felt suffocating.
Suddenly, the sudden splash of water broke the dead silence.
A basin of ice–cold water was thrown without mercy onto the unconscious man sprawled on the floor.
The freezing splash shocked Cassian awake, and he groggily regained consciousness.
He struggled to pry open his heavy eyelids, trying to figure out where he was.
“Awake?”
A cold, emotionless voice suddenly rang out in the room.

The first thing Cassian saw was a pair of black combat boots.
Hearing that voice–so familiar yet strangely distant–Cassian stiffened, every muscle tensing up.
After a split second of blankness, he suddenly remembered and jerked his head up.
Sure enough, standing before him was a face that was far from unfamiliar.
