Chapter 166

Angelica’s hand froze in mid–air, as if time itself had come to a standstill. She stared at Victoria in disbelief, her burning like a wildfire.
anger
“Victoria, does insulting me make you feel proud of yourself? This just proves how petty and shameless you are!” Angelica’s voice trembled with rage.
Victoria shrugged nonchalantly. “Stooping a little lower for someone like you doesn’t bother me. And even though I insulted you, you’ll just run to Simon and get him to feel sorry for you. I bet you’re feeling so happy right now.”
Victoria kept tossing around the word ‘happy‘ in every sentence, her sarcasm obvious. Angelica was so mad that she wanted to cut Victoria’s tongue out on the spot.
Victoria noticed Angelica was hesitating to pick up the bottle and arched her brow. “Why aren’t you picking it up? Don’t you want the antidote anymore?”
Victoria paused, then let out a drawn–out, mocking “oh,” as if she’d just figured it out. “Is it because I’m here? Does picking up the antidote with me watching feel humiliating to you?”
“Victoria, don’t get too full of yourself! The higher you stand, the harder you’ll crash!” Angelica spat out the words through. clenched teeth as she quickly bent down to grab her sunglasses and the bottle, worried Victoria might snatch it away if she hesitated.
Not wanting to embarrass herself any further in front of Victoria, Angelica opened the bottle. There were only two pills inside. She poured them out, swallowed them in one go, and turned to leave.
Victoria called out, “Who told you just taking the antidote is all it takes?”
Angelica stopped in her tracks, turning back to stare at Victoria in disbelief. “Victoria! You tricked me?” Angelica
Victoria scoffed, “Trick you? You’re not even worth lying to. If I want to mess with you, I do it openly. Unlike you, always sneaking around with your shady moves behind the scenes.”
“So what was that supposed to mean?” Angelica’s teeth were practically grinding to dust.
“Did you forget? Last night at the engagement party, when I cured the others, I had to bleed out the poison,” Victoria reminded her.
She suddenly remembered that it was indeed the case, which meant she still had to let Victoria bleed out the poison.
Angelica took a deep breath and turned back. “Victoria, you’re not going to break your promise, right? So completely cure me. I bet you don’t want me hanging around in your face any longer.”
Victoria smirked, “At least you know your place. But I’m going to wait until Curtis wakes up before I finish detoxing you. Relax, I won’t trick you. Once I cure you, Simon will finally realize how stupid he was for choosing to help you.” With that, Victoria walked away.
Angelica shot Victoria a hateful glare. “Victoria, once I‘
cured, you’re done for!”
But as she watched Victoria walk away, a wave of anxiety washed over her. ‘What did Victoria mean by that? Could she really wake Curtis up?
‘No way!‘ Angelica thought, trying to convince herself.
Maybe she could’ve brought Curtis back–if I hadn’t already given him those drugs!‘ she mused.
1 Angelion scoffed inwardly.

Still, she couldn’t shake off her anxiety. She rushed straight to the hospital.
As soon as she stepped into the hospital room, Angelica hurried over to the bed to see how Curtis was doing.
“Curtis?” she called out.
“Curtis, can you hear me?”
“Are you awake, Curtis?”
After calling his name for two minutes and getting no response, Angelica finally let her guard down and sat on a nearby stool.
“That little witch Victoria actually had the nerve to say you’d wake up, Angelica grumbled to herself.
‘I have no idea what kind of tricks she thinks she has, but she can’t possibly pull it off,‘ she scoffed inwardly.
‘Seriously, I’m just freaking myself out for no reason, Angelica muttered, feeling annoyed at her own paranoia.
Curtis couldn’t help but get a little excited when he heard Angelica talking. ‘Wait, Victoria actually said I could wake up?‘ he thought, hope bubbling up inside him.
After a short rest, Angelica dug into the designer bag Simon had just given her, pulled out a lipstick, and then fished out a tiny syringe hidden inside.
But Curtis barely had time to be excited before he felt another jab in his elbow.
His excitement instantly soured into disgust. ‘Once I wake up, the first thing I’ll do is expose Angelica for the snake she really is!‘ he swore to himself.
Just then, he heard the phone ring.
After a moment, the ringing stopped, and he heard Angelica speaking.
“Are you sure the person you found this time is reliable? Don’t let it be another total loser like last time, who vanished without a trace!” Angelica said.
“Don’t screw this up! If you do, we’re both screwed!” Angelica warned.
“Money’s not an issue! Just make sure that little bitch Victoria ends up dead!” she ordered.
“And remember, make sure no one traces this back to me!” she added.
‘Looks like that vicious woman Angelica is pulling her dirty tricks again,/plotting behind the scenes, Curtis thought.
“This time she’s gone even further. She actually wants Victoria dead!‘ Curtis felt a chill run down his spine.
He started to get really worried.
‘I have to get this message to Victoria, no matter what! Curtis thought frantically.
But no matter how hard he struggled, he just couldn’t wake up.
‘Once Victoria cures me, I’ll make sure she disappears for good. Let her enjoy her little moment. Soon, she’ll be nothing but a memory, Angelica sneered to herself.
Curtis was beside himself with worry. ‘What the hell am I supposed to do?‘ he thought, his heart pounding in his chest.

After everything he’d done to his own sister, now that Victoria was in real danger, he couldn’t do a damn thing to help her. He had to admit that he was a total failure.
In the end, all Curtis could do was desperately hope that Victoria would find a way to get herself out of danger.
‘She’ll make it through this,‘ Curtis tried to convince himself, fighting the panic rising inside.
Victoria’s clever and tough. She always finds a way. She won’t let anything happen to her, he reassured himself, though worry gnawed at him.
Victoria made her way back to her room from the garden, washed up, played with Greenie and the other two for a bit, then set off for Thornton Group to treat Jackson, just as planned.
Just as the treatment finished, the office door chime sounded, and Ollie’s voice came through the intercom.
“Mr. Thornton,” Ollie said.
Jackson pressed a button, and the heavy automatic door opened.
As soon as Ollie walked in, his gaze went straight to Victoria. He gave her a polite nod and greeted her, “Ms. Binder.”
Victoria nodded back. “Ollie.”
Ollie didn’t bother to hide anything with Victoria there. He got straight to the point. “Mr. Thornton, our people have found out that Cassian was taken by Xavier, and he’s already been shipped off to Afriska.”
Victoria turned to Jackson. “What’s Xavier even want with Cassian? Is he trying to use him as leverage against you? He wasn’t even at our engagement party to see for himself how Cassian tried to hurt you, so why would he think you’d bother rescuing Cassian?”
She paused, then asked, “Or are you seriously thinking about going to Afriska to rescue him?”
Jackson said, “Doesn’t matter if Cassian’s really my brother or not, I have my reasons for saving him. If he turns out to be my real brother, I’ll try to let him live. If he’s not, maybe he knows where my real brother actually is.”
“Yeah, that’s true,” Victoria nodded, looking thoughtful. “But Xavier’s been working his connections in Afriska for years. got a whole web of influence and a huge power base over there. If you’re planning to pull Cassian out, it’s definitely not going to be a walk in the park.”
But Jackson just smirked, completely calm. “I don’t need to go to Afriska myself to save Cassian.” Victoria arched an eyebrow, curiosity shining in her eyes. “Oh? So what’s your plan?”
A sly glint flickered in Jackson’s gaze as he replied in a low voice, “Tit for tat. I’ll give him a taste of his own medicine.”
