Jackson was ready to give Xavier a taste of his own medicine–using the exact tricks Xavier had pulled on him, but this time, against Xavier himself.
Victoria caught on right away. “You want to kidnap his sister, Faye?”
Jackson nodded. “Exactly. If Xavier can snatch Cassian to threaten me, then I can grab Faye to put the pressure on him. I might be able to walk away from Cassian, but Xavier would never abandon his sister.”
If this had happened before, Jackson would’ve never even considered it.
But after what Cassian did, Jackson realized that showing mercy to enemies was just being cruel to himself.
It didn’t matter whether the enemy came from outside or was one of his own.
Victoria said, “It’s a solid plan, but Annie told me that, except for you, the rest of the Thornton family values their own interests way more than family. What if Xavier doesn’t give a damn about Faye’s life?”
Jackson chuckled softly. “They might be selfish, but they’re not heartless enough to let one of their own die. At most, they’d throw someone else’s interests under the bus, but never let a family member die.”
Ollie caught on and spoke up without hesitation. “Mr. Thornton, I’ll handle it right away.”
Jackson nodded. “Hmm.”
Once Ollie left the office, Jackson turned to Victoria, concern in his voice. “So, how’s Simon doing? Did you help him detox?”
Victoria shook her head. “Nope. I suddenly decided to let Simon choose–get himself cured, or let Angelica be cured instead.”
Jackson caught the flicker of emotion in her eyes. “Did he choose to save Angelica instead?”
Victoria shrugged. “Yeah. Simon gave up his shot at the cure, so Angelica could have it.”
She paused for a moment, then said, “Honestly, by now I’ve lost all hope and feelings for their whole family. But you know what? No matter why Simon decided to let me cure Angelica instead of himself, I have to admit I was still furious. I still hated him for it.”
“When Angelica came to me for the antidote, she was all smug, asking if I was angry. I didn’t give her a straight answer, because honestly, I really was pissed off,” she went on.
“Jack, I told you to move on from Cassian’s betrayal and be ruthless when you need to. But I guess I haven’t really managed to do that myself. Even now, Simon’s choice still messes with me emotionally,” she added.
Jackson listened quietly, then rolled his wheelchair over to her, gently brushing her cheek with his hand. His expression was serious, but his voice was soft and gentle. “Vickie, if you didn’t feel anything, you just wouldn’t be you. On the surface, you look all tough and decisive, but deep down, you’re softer than most people. That’s exactly why you agreed to team up with me back then, isn’t it?”
Victoria smiled at the memory. “Yeah, that’s right. Even though you were stuck in that wheelchair and Angelica had just dumped you, after suffering such a huge blow, you didn’t seem lost or resentful at all. That’s why I said yes to your offer.”
Jackson’s eyes were full of admiration as he said, “So, it’s only natural you’d still get angry about Simon’s choice. But the fact that you can cut off those feelings without hesitation and fight back with a clear head. That’s what makes you truly amazing.”
Victoria held Jackson’s gaze, her eyes steady and full of emotion.

Chapter 167
She realized that when Jackson spoke to others, his tone was gentle but always carried a hint of coldness and distance. Yet whenever he talked to her, his voice was filled with genuine warmth and a fiery sincerity.
She could feel just how much Jackson cared for her, and it made her understand even better why Angelica had been so antagonistic toward her today.

Victoria smiled. “I’ve been back at the Binder family for a while now, and I’m honestly tired of playing games with Angelica and Simon. So, I’m planning to wake Curtis up soon and expose Angelica’s true colors in front of the whole family. It’s time to put an end to all this.”
Jackson changed the subject. “Has Gavin hit you up at all these past couple of days?”
Victoria shook her head. “No, he’s done reaching out to me. From now on, he’ll only be talking to Annie.”
“Oh?” Jackson raised an eyebrow.
Victoria explained how Annie had been chatting with Gavin for her. Jackson remarked, “Looks like Annie really helped me out with a big issue. She just solved a major worry for me.”
“Seriously?” Victoria couldn’t help but laugh, caught between amusement and helplessness.
Jackson nodded, dead serious. “Yeah, to me, Gavin is actually trickier to deal with than Cassian anything truly outrageous
so I can’t really be ruthless with him.”
Victoria asked, “So you were planning to make a move on him?”
Jackson admitted without hesitation, “Absolutely. I might’ve played a little dirty.”
Victoria guessed, “Were you planning to have someone rough him up so he’d back off?”
or Xavier. He hasn’t done
Jackson gave a faint smile. “Not that brutal. Just using a honey trap–pretty much like what Annie’s doing now, getting involved herself.”
Victoria suddenly understood. “Yeah, that’s definitely a bit shady.”
Jackson pretended to be helpless, his tone playful. “What can I say? Ever since I started liking you, I just can’t control this possessiveness.”
Victoria caught his teasing instantly and joked right back, her eyes shining. “Hearing you say that, I totally get it. Honestly… I’m just as possessive about you.”
Jackson’s gaze was full of laughter. “To be yours, Vickie, is honestly the best honor I could ask for.”
As they bantered, Victoria couldn’t help but keep her eyes glued to Jackson’s devastatingly handsome face. Her gaze traced. from his bold, striking brows down to those tempting, rosy lips of his.
Alone together in their private little world, she finally couldn’t resist the urge bubbling up inside her. She wanted to make a
move.
“I want to try something today,” Victoria murmured, her voice soft and playful, eyes lingering on his lips.
“Try what?” Jackson asked, but when he saw the look in her eyes, he got it right away.
“Let me see what your lips taste like,” Victoria teased, tapping her lips with her finger.
Jackson’s eyes sparkled. “So what are we waiting for?”
He closed his eyes and said, “Go ahead.”

Victoria couldn’t help but laugh at his cheeky move. “Come on, Jack, shouldn’t I be the one closing my eyes?”
“Is that better?” Jackson opened his eyes. “Vickie, you close your eyes. I’ll take the lead.”
Before she could answer, he leaned forward from his wheelchair, his hand sliding to the back of her head. Tilting his head, he kissed her without a second thought.
That afternoon, Victoria went back to her room. She didn’t even bother with her usual nap. Her mind was still lingering on the taste of Jackson’s kiss.
Greenie watched her for a bit, then slithered over to the desk where Blackie and Whitey were curled up, taking a nap. He tapped their heads with his tail and gave them a quick flick of his tongue, and both of them turned their gaze toward Victoria, who was lying on the bed.
After a moment, the two snakes seemed to come to an agreement and gave a little nod.
Seeing they were on board, Greenie slid off the desk and squeezed through the gap in the wardrobe, making his way into the cabinet packed with bottles and jars.
Before long, the rattling of bottles and jars coming from the wardrobe broke Victoria’s reverie.
She came back to herself, looked over at the cabinet, and saw that Greenie was nowhere to be seen. Guessing he was inside the wardrobe, she got up and opened the door. Sure enough, Greenie was there, his tail wrapped around a small bottle.
She raised an eyebrow. “Greenie, what
are you up to?”
Greenie tapped the same little bottle he’d just been wrapped around with his tail, then slithered around it again.
Victoria had no idea what he was trying to do, so she picked up the little bottle, popped the lid off, and poured the pills into her palm. She brought them up to her nose for a sniff.
As soon as she caught the scent, her mouth twitched.
“What?” she cried out.
