Simon snapped out of his thoughts. If his mother hadn’t come looking for him last night when he didn’t come home, he might’ve really passed out right at the entrance of Goldenwood Villa.
He touched the wound on his forehead, wincing in pain as he frowned. “It’s nothing. I did it to myself.”
“You did it to yourself? Big brother, why would you…” Angelica Binder started, then suddenly seemed to realize something. Her worry turned into guilt. “Is it because of the poison in your body? You couldn’t take it anymore, so you had to resort to self–harm just to get through the pain?”
Simon stayed silent, which was as good as admitting it.
“Simon, it’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Victoria would’ve detoxed you yesterday, and you wouldn’t have had to suffer for another day…” Angelica’s voice trembled with tears, and she couldn’t hold back the tears streaming down her face.
Curtis, fully awake, couldn’t see Angelica’s face, but just hearing her phony voice annoyed the hell out of him.
‘God knows why I ever thought Angelica was worth pitying!‘ he thought to himself.
Simon was touched by Angelica’s concern and worry, and for a moment, he almost forgot the agony he had gone through last night. He gently ruffled her hair and said, “It’s alright. I just had to tough it out for one more night. Today, Victoria will not only bring Curtis back to consciousness, but she’ll also help remove the poison from me. Don’t be upset.”
“Um…but Victoria’s always hated us, hasn’t she? Why would she suddenly agree to help you with the poison?” Angelica asked, sounding uneasy.
“That’s not something you need to worry about,” Simon replied. He never wanted Angelica to be tainted by their dirty tricks, so he kept her out of it. “Alright, I’ll go handle Curtis’s discharge paperwork. You stay here and get things ready. Once I’m done, we’ll bring Curtis back home.”
Angelica nodded obediently. “Alright.”
As soon as Simon left the room, Angelica’s whole demeanor shifted. While tidying up for Curtis, she snickered and said with a smirk, “Curtis, looks like your father finally stepped in, so Victoria had to give in. She’s so confident she can wake you up. I can’t wait to see her face when she realizes you’re not coming back after all.”
Curtis mentally scoffed at her a thousand times, calling Angelica a venomous snake.
Curtis believed with all his heart that if Victoria said he’d wake up, then he absolutely would!

At the Thornton family estate, the golden sunlight of late autumn streamed through thick branches, scattering mottled shadows all over the courtyard.
After texting Victoria, Jackson set out for the Binder family, with Ollie pushing his wheelchair along.
Just as Jackson reached the front hall, he heard Donald’s voice behind him.
“Jackson, why haven’t I been able to reach Cassian these past couple of days? After those people took him, did you really not try to help him at all?” Donald asked.
Jackson stopped, his eyes calm as he looked at Donald coming up. A faint, almost mocking smile curled on his lips as he shot back, “That’s a good one, Dad. Cassian literally tried to take my life, and now you’re asking why I didn’t go save him?”

Donald’s face twisted with embarrassment, then he barked, “Your brother just wasn’t thinking straight. He was sent away by your grandfather when he was little, and when he came back, he was all out of sorts, angry at the world. He made a mistake, that’s all. But no matter what, he’s still your brother–the one your mother risked her life to bring back. Are you really okay with letting him get beaten to death?”
Jackson felt it was pointless to argue with Donald’s self–righteous attitude, so he replied in a flat tone, “I’ve already asked Ollie to investigate.”
Donald finally calmed down, looking satisfied. “That’s more like it. As soon as you find out anything about Cassian, let me know right away…”
Jackson cut him off. “I’m not investigating Cassian’s whereabouts. I’m trying to find out if he’s actually my brother at all.”
Donald froze for a moment, a flicker of panic in his eyes, before he quickly pulled himself together. “What are you thinking? Cassian is your real brother! Don’t you care that your mother would be disappointed in you, even from the afterlife?”
At the mention of his mother, Jackson’s gaze grew sharp. “You’re the last person who should bring up Mom. If Sibley can be your illegitimate daughter, why couldn’t Cassian be your secret son? Otherwise, why did you always treat them better than
me?”
Donald assumed Jackson was just jealous of not getting enough attention, so he sighed and said, “Jackson, haven’t you had enough love and care growing up? Why are you always comparing yourself to your brother? Have you ever thought about how rough his life was before he came back? I’m just trying to make it up to him. I admit, what happened with Sibley was my mistake. I didn’t clean up after myself, and Rachel ended up having my child. But her mother is gone, and she’s still my daughter. How could I just abandon her?”
Jackson sneered, “Don’t bother explaining. If Ollie digs up proof Cassian isn’t really my brother, he’s finished, and so are you. Neither of you will get away with it.”
He didn’t spare Donald another glance, just motioned for Ollie to roll on.
Donald watched Jackson’s retreating figure, his eyes dark and stormy. No matter what, he just couldn’t bring himself to like Jackson.
Jackson’s personality was just like his mother’s–stubborn, unyielding, and impossible to control.
Once Jackson was out of sight, Donald tried calling Cassian again, but there was still no answer.
Suddenly, worry gnawed at Donald. ‘What if Jackson really had Cassian grabbed, just to interrogate him about his brother’s whereabouts?‘
If Jackson and the old man ever found out Cassian was his illegitimate son, Donald knew they’d never let him off the hook.
‘No way. I have to find Cassian before Jackson gets to him and beats a confession out of him!‘ Donald thought, panic creeping in.
Once they were out of earshot, Ollie, pushing the wheelchair, asked, “Why did you tell your father about the investigation? Aren’t you worried he’ll get suspicious?”
Jackson replied coolly, “Sometimes, being too alert just makes people mess up and give themselves away.”
Judging by Donald’s reaction, Jackson was pretty much convinced Cassian wasn’t his real brother. Now all he needed was hard evidence to back it up, and once he had it, Cassian and Donald were toast.
An hour later, Ollie pulled up to the gates of the Binder family estate.

Chapter 175
Jackson called Victoria, his voice gentle. “Vickie, I’m here.”
“Alright, I’ll come get you.” Victoria replied.
Ten minutes later, Victoria arrived at the main gate. She was just about to have someone open it for Jackson so Ollie could drive in when Simon’s car happened to pull up at the same time.
Simon recognized Jackson’s car up ahead and froze for a second.
“What’s Jackson doing here?” Simon muttered.
Hearing that, Angelica glanced out the window. Once she saw it was Jackson’s car, she instinctively touched her face, hidden behind her mask.
The thought of her poison still not cured, and Jackson seeing her ruined face, made Angelica want to crawl into a hole.
After Victoria had the main gate opened, Ollie drove in, with Simon’s car right behind. Both cars were parked near the
entrance.
Once they were parked, Simon got out and told his bodyguards to carry the unconscious Curtis out of the car.
Ollie helped Jackson into his wheelchair, and Jackson glanced at Curtis as he was being carried out.
He smiled faintly at Victoria as she walked over and said, “Vickie, they’re already bringing Curtis back to the Binder family before he’s even awake. Guess they’ve figured out a way to bring him back.”
