But Bater puffed up his chest and said, “Even if Jackson’s backing her up, it doesn’t matter. Today, that little bitch is going to apologize to me, no matter what!”
Both Miranda and Bater kept calling Victoria a bitch, and a faint shadow crossed Jackson’s dark eyes.
Jackson said coolly, “Bater, your mouth is just as rotten as your mother’s. Did the Clark family forget to clean their mouths when they tried to clean up their reputation?”
Behind him, Ollie saw Jackson’s fingers tapping lightly on the wheelchair’s armrest. Ollie knew his young master was already scheming how to get revenge for his future wife.
But right now wasn’t the time.
Miranda frowned. “Jackson, watch your mouth. Even your grandfather shows me respect when he speaks to me.”
Victoria scoffed, “Is that so? I think he’s just afraid your nasty breath will knock him out cold.”
Annie burst out laughing.
Miranda was left speechless.
Julia quickly assured them, “Miranda, Bater, don’t worry. We won’t let you down. Just wait, Victoria will apologize to you and
Bater soon.”
‘Now that Daisy is in our hands, Victoria wouldn’t dare step out of line.
‘Unless that little bitch Victoria is cold enough to let Daisy die.
‘But since Victoria has agreed to help Curtis recover, it shows she actually cares about Daisy‘
Thinking about it, Julia couldn’t help but feel a pang of bitterness. The daughter she carried for nine months valued Daisy, a woman with no blood ties to her, more than her own mother.
Just then, Jackson gave a half–smile, almost teasing. “Mrs. Clark, you don’t need to worry. I’m not here to have Vickie’s back. She doesn’t need anyone to fight for her. She’s her own support.”
Bater, still holding onto Miranda, glanced at Jackson. Guess those rumors about Jackson really valuing Victoria were true
after all.
Seeing Bater watching him, Jackson smirked. “Bater, it’s been a while.”
Bater was nothing like Jackson. He never bothered with smiles, always looking annoyed at everyone. It wasn’t that he was cold. He just had this hostile vibe about him.
When he found out people in their circle were secretly calling him the eternal runner–up, Bater got even more annoyed. He spent every day with a deep frown, like he was ready to punch anyone who dared call him that behind his back.
But for once, Bater actually cracked a smile. “Jackson, long time no see. Who would’ve thought your legs would end up crippled?”
Annie’s three girlfriends clenched their fists, buzzing with excitement as they watched the showdown.
It was happening!

Chapter 177
The two most legendary prodigies in the capital’s elite circle were finally squaring off
It was clear that with Jackson’s legs ruined, he was now a step below Bater–the guy he’d always kept under his thumb before.
Jackson didn’t even blink at Bater’s dig. He just smiled, unfazed. “You know, after spending so long at the top, it gets pretty cold and lonely up there. Sometimes you gotta see what life’s like down below. Now that I’ve been knocked off my pedestal for a while, I finally get what you’ve been seeing all this time. Honestly, it’s got its own flavor.”
Bater was speechless.
Jackson’s way of throwing punches with a smile was maddening. There was just nowhere to let out your anger.
That’s exactly what Bater hated most about Jackson. Every time he tried to go head–to–head, it felt like punching cotton, totally powerless.
And when he finally pulled back, damn, he was the one left bruised and battered, not even sure how it happened.
So for the past few years, Bater would steer clear of any event where Jackson showed up, worried he might snap and make a
scene
Seeing her grandson still couldn’t get the upper hand against Jackson, Miranda chimed in, “No worries. Since you’re finding it cold up there, it’s about time my son had his turn at the top.”
Julia, still worried about Curtis waking up, urged, “Simon, Angelica, hurry up and lead Miranda and Nathan over.”
“On it,” Simon and Angelica exchanged a nod. “Mrs. Clark, Bater, Nathan, right this way, please.”
Bater shot Victoria a vicious glare. “You little bitch, you’re dead meat today!”
But Victoria didn’t even flinch at Bater’s threat. She looked completely unfazed, not a hint of fear or panic on her face.
Sirena gave Victoria a bitter look and walked off with her husband.
Bater didn’t see a single sign of surrender on Victoria’s face. He was starting to wonder if Darell’s family had ever really gotten a handle on her.
Maybe Victoria had just been stringing them along the whole time.
“Bater, let’s go. Don’t waste your time on Jackson. He’s nothing but a cripple now, not even in your league. The capital’s yours for the taking,” Miranda said, deliberately loud enough for Jackson to hear. She was letting Victoria know loud and clear that having Jackson in her corner wouldn’t help her one bit.
The Clark family had nothing to fear from Jackson now.
Once the Clark family left with Simon and Angelica, Julia shot Victoria a look. Even with Jackson by her side, Julia wasn’t scared anymore. After all, she had Miranda and Bater backing her up.
She let out a cold snort and warned, “Victoria, you’d better behave this time, or you know exactly what kind of hell I’ll bring down on you!”
With that, she hurried after the others.
Victoria laughed and turned to Jack with a teasing smile. “Hey Jack, what kind of ‘fruit‘ is a consequence? Is it tasty?”
Jack grinned, “Not so great if you have to eat it yourself, but if you make someone else take a bite, that’s when it gets delicious.”

Victoria nodded, amuse
not tasty for us, let’s make sure someone else gets a mouthful.
Annie’s friends hanging around her were all secretly checking out Jackson.
“Annic, Jackson is so hot I could die!”
“He totally deserves the title of the capital’s most handsome guy!”
“Such a waste. He got betrayed by his own brother. Talk about bad luck!”
Annie waved her hand, “Don’t worry about it. My sister–in–law said she can get Jack walking again.”
“Yeah I heard, but they’ve brought in so many doctors for your cousin, and none of them could help. Is she really up to it?” they asked.
Annic nodded, full of confidence. “Definitely!”
“Annie, the way you talk about her, you really believe in Vickie’s healing skills, huh?” they said.
Annic nodded again. “Absolutely! You guys have no idea how awesome my sister–in–law is. Once you see her for yourselves, you’ll be totally convinced.”
Victoria shot Annie a look. If she didn’t put a stop to Annie’s hype, even someone as shameless as her would start feeling embarrassed. “Annic, let’s go,” she said.
Annie, still gushing about Victoria to her friends, chirped back, “Coming!”
She rounded up her friends and hurried after Victoria.
When they got to Silverwood Villa, Julia had someone lay Curtis, who was still out cold, on the couch.
Darell was already there, sitting on the couch in oversized hospital pajamas, looking pale as a sheet.
Angelica saw her dad looking so pale and asked, worried, “Dad, what happened to you?”
Julia gritted her teeth. “That bastard Hector went and stabbed him!”
Julia spun
around, her face twisted with anger as she barked at Victoria standing by the door, “Quit stalling, Victoria! Hurry up and bring Curtis back to consciousness!”
She then glared at Annie and her friends, clearly annoyed. “You were only supposed to wake Curtis and detox Simon, so why did you drag all these people along?”
Victoria didn’t bother faking submission this time; she flashed a sarcastic smile and said, “I’m just here to stir things up and make sure you have a miserable day.”
