Chapter 208
First, they poached her employees with high salaries, then they kept snatching away her company’s resources. If Brightstar Entertainment had been on shaky ground to begin with, it would’ve been crushed by now.
But unfortunately for them, this was Brightstar Entertainment with Victoria at the helm. Nathan hadn’t counted on two things.
First, she was loaded; seriously loaded, and she had a whole crew of talented people working for her. Second, she was the author of Chasing the Dream, so the rights were hers to do with as she pleased.
Just then, Victoria thought about how Nathan’s people had taken Angelica away. She figured they were probably trying to dig for secrets about her. Like the secret that she was actually Viara.
With that in mind, Victoria dialed Mara’s number. “What’s going on with Angelica?” Victoria asked.
“After she was taken from the Vaughn family, she was brought to the Clark family’s Midnight Blue,” Mara replied.
“Has Nathan met with her yet?” Victoria asked.
“Not yet. We are still watching the Midnight Blue, but Nathan hasn’t shown up. He met with a few small entertainment companies, then headed over to Gale Entertainment. I wanted to have someone snatch Angelica, but haven’t had the chance yet,” Mara said.
Try to get Lexi’s contact info; the CEO’s daughter at Gale Entertainment. Tell her Angelica’s at the Midnight Blue, and say Nathan’s playing the hero, planning to hide her away like some secret lover.
“If Lexi actually goes after Angelica, that’s your cue; have our people grab Angelica while everyone’s distracted,” Victoria instructed.
“Understood,” Mara replied.
This whole scheme hinged on Lexi being the type who absolutely couldn’t tolerate being two–timed. People always said Lexi had a fiery, no–nonsense personality.
If Lexi really dared to storm into the Midnight Blue and pick a fight with Angelica, then Victoria would have to admit, maybe Lexi really was as genuine as everyone claimed.
Victoria closed the file on Gale Entertainment, leaned back in her chair, and stretched. For now, she’d wait and see if her hunch was right until the Chasing the Dream rights sale event kicked off.
With half an hour left before the end of the workday, Tracy handed her a stack of resignation letters.
“We’ve got makeup artists, camera operators, editors, content producers, brand and new media specialists, PR staff, artist publicists, and even the head of the business department is leaving.
“That’s twelve people in total,” Tracy said as she handed over the letters. “Right now, our biggest project is securing the rights to Chasing the Dream.
“The business department head got chewed out by Simon a few times for not being able to get in touch with the author Viara. I guess that’s why he’s jumping ship”
After a pause, Tracy continued, “Brightstar Entertainment isn’t exactly an old–school company, and we re not huge to begin with. Some of these employees took a lot of effort to train up Losing twelve people all at once is really going to slow us

down‘
Seeing so many people handing in their resignations, even Tracy, who had pinned her hopes on Victoria, was starting to waver Sull, she wanted to see if Victoria, as a new boss, really had what it took to fix things
Finally, Tracy said, “Maybe you could sit down with each of them, offer a raise or something? Who knows, maybe some of them will decide to stick it out and ride out the storm with the company…”
Before Tracy could finish. Victoria cut her off. “No need. Everyone has their own ambitions. It’s only natural to want a better paycheck Besides, there’s no way I can match what Gale Entertainment promised them.”
Then she grabbed her pen, signed each of the twelve resignation letters, and stamped them with the company seal.
Victoria had already checked the employees‘ salaries. Simon was actually paying a bit above market rate, and some positions were recruited for top dollar. It was clear Simon was eager to prove himself to his father and make some quick achievements.
After stamping the last letter, Victoria slid the stack back to Tracy. “Whether they’ll actually get what they want after switching jobs, or what consequences might come their way, that’s something they’ll have to be ready for themselves.”
Tracy didn’t try to persuade her any further. She took the resignation letters and left the office.
Victoria picked up her phone and called Mara. “Mara, bring in some folks from the organization to Brightstar Entertainment.”
Mara sounded surprised. “Boss, isn’t that a bit much? Having our people work at Brightstar Entertainment?”
Mara was right. Victoria’s organization was the most secretive cross–disciplinary talent alliance in the world.
They had hackers who could crack the Pentagon, war photographers who won World Press competition, and Lennal Street traders who’d stirred up three financial hurricanes.
Bringing these top–tier experts into Brightstar Entertainment was like having quantum physicists design stage holograms, nano–material geniuses create high–tech costumes for pop stars, and PhDs in behavioral psychology craft fanbase management plans.
At the same time, it was a crushing blow to every other entertainment company out there.
Victoria smiled. “Just treat this as a little break. Once the Chasing the Dream project is done, we won’t be short on staff anymore.”
“Understood,” Mara replied.
When Tracy handed back the approved resignation letters, the employees who’d applied to leave were all a bit surprised After all, they’d expected Victoria to stall and delay their departures, maybe even make things difficult.
“That was fast. She’s just letting us go, just like that?” asked Marty, the business department manager.
Tracy just shrugged. “You guys already made your decision. Do you really think Ms. Binder’s going to beg you to stay?
“Looks like she’s throwing in the towel, Marty said, glancing at the employees still working hard “See that? You tolks who aren’t quitting are just waiting to get laid off. Tomorrow, I’m off to Gale Entertainment; double the salary
Some of the employees who chose to stay started second–guessing themselves, unsure if they’d made the right move. But others stayed focused, not believing that Gale Entertaiment would actually pay so many people such high salaries.

Before clocking out. Victoria swung by the staff office. She glanced at the remaining employees and said, “Give me a detailed rundown of everything you’ve worked on here. The more detailed, the better. Have it on my desk by Friday before you leave
The ones who stayed started speculating about what Victoria was up to. Whatever she had in mind, they’d already made their choice; so all they could do now was follow her lead.
After Angelica was taken away, she was placed in a luxury VIP suite on the exclusive floor of the Midnight Blue. There were bodyguards stationed outside the door, and inside, she was all alone.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, she stared at her face. Finally, the swelling was gone after the antidote, but now those deep, almost bone–deep scars stared back at her. The agony was so sharp, she could barely stand it.
Victoria did this to me!‘ Angelica cursed inwardly, hatred burning hotter than ever. ‘I’m going to kill her!‘
She was certain Nathan wanted Victoria gone as well; otherwise, he wouldn’t have pulled her out of the Binder family’s hands.
No matter what Nathan had asked of her, as long as it meant bringing Victoria down for good, she would have done it without a second thought. And who knew, she might even have made Nathan fall for her along the way.
After all, she was the most brilliant woman in the capital’s social scene, outshining his fiancée, Lexi, any day.
Her scars were only temporary. As long as she got them treated quickly, she’d be back to her old gorgeous self in no time.
As she was plotting, a sudden noise came from outside the door. Angelica’s eyes sparkled with anticipation. ‘Nathan’s finally here!‘ she thought.
