Chapter 232
Outside the private room, Gavin still wouldn’t give up. He kept shifting from side to side, trying to get around Annie, who was blocking his way.
But Annie wasn’t about to let him through.
He snapped impatiently, “Move!”
Annie shot back, “Not a chance! Can’t you see my Victoria is on a date with Jackson? She doesn’t want anything to do with you. Have you got no self–awareness?”
Gavin glared at her. “None of your damn business!”
Annie let out a dramatic “Ouch!” “Yeah, it’s my business, deal with it! You still haven’t made up for bumping into me earlier. Don’t think you can just walk away!”
Gavin realized she was just being difficult. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
Annie shot back, “What, trying to weasel out of it? Careful, or I’ll call your dad and tell him you snuck out while grounded!”
“How do you know I’m grounded?” Gavin asked, confused.
Annie froze for a second, then quickly said, “Sophie just told me. You begged her to bring you out, so obviously you’re stuck at home.”
She almost slipped up and revealed she’d been chatting with Victoria.
“I don’t care! If you don’t take me to the hospital for a CT scan, I’m sticking to you and not going anywhere!” Annie pouted stubbornly.
Gavin pointed a finger right at her face, gritting his teeth. “If you weren’t a woman, I’d seriously punch you.”
‘No wonder Victoria doesn’t like you. You’re such a hothead,” Annie commented. “Victoria sees everything you’re doing. Causing a scene here will only make her dislike you more.”
That really got to Gavin.
Gavin let out a long, exasperated sigh. “Alright, you win. I’ll take you to the hospital, happy now?”
As they passed by Rio Private Room, Gavin stopped and glanced inside. There was Victoria, sitting next to Jackson, laughing and chatting like she was having the time of her life. The sight stung him hard like a punch to the gut.
Back when they dated for those two months, she never smiled at him like that.
She was always busy, and he never had a clue what she was actually doing.
Every time he asked her to go to the movies, she’d say she was busy.
He’d suggest the amusement park, and she’d still say she was busy.
All that busyness, and it turned out she was just fussing over her cabinet full of medicine
But now, she was here, totally at ease, going on a date with Jackson.
Gavin still couldn’t let it go.

Chapter 242
He shoved Annie, who was walking on the inside, to block him out of the way Then he glared at Victoria in the private mont and demanded. Victoria, this is your last chance. Choose me, or that cripple!”
Victoria glanced at Gavin, then quickly looked away. She stood up, leaned in close to Jackson, and kissed him right on the lips. “Gavin, that’s my answer.”
Gavin’s eyes filled with tears, his voice trembling. “I understand.”
With that, he slammed his fist into the wall, his knuckles splitting open and smearing blood across it.
Annie, standing behind him, covered her mouth, feeling a pang of sympathy. For a moment, she thought Gavin was truly pitiful.
But she quickly brushed off her pity.
They already broke up. What’s the point in clinging on and regretting it now?
Just because he pretends to be all lovesick doesn’t mean he gets to openly mess with her life.
Gavin turned back, his voice hoarse. “I’ll take you to the hospital.”
With that, he strode downstairs.
Annie snapped out of it, glanced at Jackson and Victoria, then hurried after him.
Sophie, peeking out to catch the show, turned to her friend and said, “My dumb brother is basically starring in his own teen drama right now. Not gonna lie, it’s pretty fun to watch.”
Her friend burst out laughing. “Yeah, totally.”
After that surprise kiss, Jackson watched as Victoria settled back into her seat, flashing a big, satisfied grin. “Guess Gavin’s inally done chasing after you.”
Just then, Beatrice, the host and organizer for today’s event, walked up to the stage with the mic. She looked out at the guests and representatives from all twenty–five entertainment companies and started speaking.
‘Hello, everyone. I’m Beatrice, editor for Viara. Thanks so much for making time in your busy schedules to join us for the copyright sale event for Viara’s novel, Chasing the Dream. From now on, I’ll be your host for this meeting.
At Viara’s request, today’s event will be live–streamed from start to finish. Before we get to the bidding, there’ll be a blind review segment. I’m sure most of you have at least heard of Chasing the Dream, even if you haven’t read it yet So, I’d like Each company representative to share your initial thoughts on how you’d approach adapting Chasing the Dream if your company secures the copyright.”
Yvonne leaned over to Tracy and whispered, “This blind review round is basically Viara putting all of us entertainment companies to the test. Whoever pitches an idea that matches the author’s vision the best will get the rights in the end
Tracy nodded in agreement “That’s exactly what I was thinking.”
Beatrice looked around the room. “So, which company would like to go first?”
“Where’s Viara? Why isn’t she here? Do you actually have the final say on who gets the rights to Chasing the Dream representative from Brightstar Entertainment called out from the audience
Beatrice explained. “Viara is here, but she’s not ready to make an appearance just yet”
A representative from Sky Media stood up. “I’ll go first. Honestly, I think we should shift the focus from the female lead to

the male lead in Chasing the Dream. Or better yet, just turn the female lead into a male character. That would take the adaptation way more behevable. After all, in ancient times, men held all the power, so it’s only logical for the male lead to be the mastermind”
Upstairs, Victoria heard that and almost snapped her teacup in half.
What the hell? He wants my female lead to play second fiddle? Has he even noticed that none of his male actors can carry their female co–stars properly? Seriously, who does he think he is?‘ Victoria thought, fuming.
Jackson smiled.
Victoria looked at him.
Jackson’s smile faltered for a second, then he quickly said, “Don’t worry, Vickie. I could lift you off the ground with just one
arm.”
Yvonne shot to her feet, her voice ringing with righteous fury. “The original is all about a brilliant woman fighting to realize her dreams in a patriarchal era, refusing to be locked away in the shadows of the inner court no matter how tough it gets If you hand all the glory to the male lead, you’re wrecking the very soul of Chasing the Dream! If you’re so desperate for a male–centric story, just go buy a blockbuster from the guys‘ section next door.”
She raised her voice so everyone could hear. “Ms. Binder said, if Brightstar Entertainment wins the rights to Chasing the Dream, every dollar will go where it matters most. We’ll pick actors who actually fit the roles, not just chase after big names. The adaptation will respect the original, and we’ll bring the supporting cast to life with even richer character development”
“Ms. Binder also said she’s got full confidence that Chasing the Dream will become the biggest TV sensation ever, and the movie will smash into the global top ten box office!” Yvonne continued.
Upstairs, Victoria was sipping her tea when she nearly choked in surprise.
Did I ever say something like that?‘ Victoria thought, baffled.
Jackson shot her a grin. “Vickie, judging by your reaction, you never gave your team that kind of big talk, huh?”
Victoria laughed. “Nope, but honestly, it’s not much of a stretch.”
Jackson grinned. “So you really do believe in yourself.”
Victoria chuckled, “If you don’t have ambition or confidence right from the start, then what’s the point of even trying”
The other entertainment companies started pitching their ideas too, but honestly, most of them were just copying what Brightstar Entertainment had already said, or their proposals were so dull that nobody even bothered to pay attention
“That wraps up the blind review round,” Beatrice announced. “Viara already knows where she stands after hearing everyone’s proposals. Next up is the official bidding for the copyright of ‘Chasing the Dream”
“Where’s Viara? We’re already starting the official bidding. Is she still not coming out?” the Tianyu Media representative called out
