Chapter 252
[We’ve got a director now. If you’re just hanging around here, maybe you should go find someone who can actually cure you.]
After reading the message, Simon’s hand fell limply at his side. He looked up at the sky, letting the cold rain hit his face. icy chill made his despair even deeper.
‘It really seems like Victoria doesn’t need me for anything,‘ Simon thought with a heavy heart.
The familiar pain washed over Simon once more.
The poison flared up again.
Simon frantically dug through his pocket for the pills the doctor had prescribed, then washed them down with some wa The pain, which had just begun to spread, was finally kept at bay.
Just then, his phone rang.
Simon stared at the unfamiliar number, feeling completely drained as he answered the call.
A harsh, aggressive voice came through the line.
“Simon?”
Simon froze for a second, then said, “Who is this?”
The voice on the other end was cold and harsh. “This is Xavier Thornton. Did Victoria Binder poison you too?”
Simon was stunned. “Wait, you mean you got poisoned by her as well?”
Xavier cut him off. “No more nonsense. Do you know how to get rid of this poison?”
Simon hesitated for a moment before replying, “Only my sister Victoria knows how to cure this.”
‘Alright then, Simon. Tomorrow night, swing by the Thornton house and tell my grandfather everything you know.”
Simon was caught off guard. “What are you talking about?”
‘If you want the antidote, be at the Thornton house at seven tomorrow night. Just tell my grandfather everything you know that’s all.”
Xavier hung up right after, didn’t even let Simon get a word in.
Listening to the dead line on the phone, Simon tightened his grip on the device.
‘No matter what Xavier really wants, this could finally be my chance to get rid of the poison, Simon told himself.
Victoria spent an entire week reworking Chasing the Dream. After endless rounds of editing and polishing, she finally had a script she was really happy with.
She glanced at the finished script on her desk, let out a long sigh of relief, gave herself a good stretch, then sent the tile of to her secretary, Tracy.
After the file was sent, Victoria picked up her phone, about to call Tracy to her office, when there was a knock at the door.

“Boss,” Tracy’s voice called from outside.
“Come in,” Victoria said, looking up at Tracy. “Tracy, I’ve finished the script and sent it to you. Get it submitted to the Broadcasting Authority today and make sure the project gets approved as soon as possible.”
Tracy’s face lit up. “On it, boss. I’ll take care of it right away.”
But Tracy didn’t leave right away. She paused, then said, “Boss, there’s one more thing… Curtis Binder is back again. He’s waiting for you in the reception area.”
Victoria’s brows furrowed for a moment, then she said firmly, “Just let him wait. Don’t bother with him.”
Tracy responded quickly, “Understood, boss.”
Then Tracy remembered something else and asked, “Boss, about the song recording you wanted me to arrange—I’ve alrea set everything up just like you asked. When would you like to go to the studio?”
If Tracy had ever doubted Victoria’s abilities before, after everything that had happened lately, she was now thoroughly impressed by Victoria’s talent.
‘Maybe Victoria really can write a song that’ll blow Curtis’s hits out of the water,‘ Tracy thought.
Victoria had been so swamped with work that the whole thing had nearly slipped her mind. Thank goodness Tracy was there to jog her memory.
“There’s always something else to deal with,‘ Victoria thought.
She leaned back in her chair, rubbing the bridge of her nose. “Let’s do the recording this Friday.”
For the next couple of days, she’d focus on writing a song to release–after that, all she could do was wait for Chasing the Dream to get the green light.
Curtis had been waiting in the reception area all morning. Even though Victoria never came to see him, he didn’t complain. When lunchtime rolled around and he spotted Victoria walking down the hallway, he immediately got up and went after
her.
“Vickie,” he called out.
Victoria stopped in her tracks, shooting him a sideways glance, her voice completely flat. “Curtis, you’re still a signed artist. with Brightstar Entertainment. At work, you should call me Ms. Binder.”
Curtis nodded quickly. “Ms. Binder.”
“What is it?” Victoria asked.
Curtis excitedly pulled out the song he’d written. “I’ve been working on a new track lately. You mentioned you wanted to release a new song, so I thought maybe you could use this one…”
Victoria cut him off before he could finish. “No need.”
Curtis fidgeted with the sheet music in his hands.
Victoria ignored the frustration in his eyes. “I gave you a chance to get out of your contract, but you didn’t take it. Se until your contract ends, just stay out of the spotlight and keep a low proble at the company. Once it’s up, you can do whatever you want with your own songs.”
With that, Victoria walked out of the office.

Just then, a female employee who hadn’t clocked out yet leaned over to her neighbor and said, “Honestly, I don’t think the way Ms. Binder is dealing with Curtis is right.”
“How so?” the guy replied.
“Curtis is super talented, and she’s just keeping him sidelined. Isn’t that such a waste? No matter what kind of personal beef they’ve got, she shouldn’t bring it into the company,” the woman said, shaking her head in disappointment.
But the guy shook his head.
“You said it yourself–Ms. Binder and Curtis have some personal issues. If I were her, I wouldn’t waste a single company resource on him either. He’s already got a bit of fame, and he’s using his fans to pressure Ms. Binder.”
“If he really blows up, his past scandals would probably get swept under the rug, and Ms. Binder and the company would just get dragged online by his fans.”
“But the company really needs all the talent it can get right now. Isn’t Ms. Binder just pushing him straight into the arms of our rival, Gale Entertainment?” the woman still couldn’t wrap her head around it.
“If Curtis ends up at Gale Entertainment, that just proves he’s not someone we can trust. There’s no point wasting time and resources on him,” the guy said, cutting straight to the point.
She didn’t know what to say again.
After a moment, she muttered, “Why are you so quick to defend the new boss?”
The guy just shrugged. “I’m not defending anyone. I’m just telling it like it is. Besides, she’s the one who pays us now.”
The woman was left speechless.
Curtis trudged downstairs, looking totally out of it. As he reached his car parked by the curb, a Honda Accord pulled up beside him. The window rolled down, revealing a middle–aged man behind the wheel.
“Curtis,” the man called.
Curtis turned and recognized him right away–it was Marty Howell, the former business manager at Brightstar Entertainment.
Curtis frowned and just brushed Marty off.
Marty got out of the car, grinning. “Did Victoria mess you up again, Curtis?”
“None of your damn business!” Curtis shot him a fierce glare.
Marty said, “Come on, Curtis. Whether it’s a girlfriend or a sister, dealing with women is always the same–you gotta be stronger than them. That’s how you take control. Begging and acting pathetic won’t help you at all. It’ll just make her look down on you even more.”
Curtis paused, something about Marty’s words making him think deeply.
