Fave looked at Xavier with anticipation, her tone tinged with a hint of pleading. “Xavier, if you really become the heir to the Thornton family. I hope you’ll let your big sister join the company’s management. Give me a position so I can prove myself.”

After being provoked by Victoria tonight, Faye refused to accept it. She thought, ‘Why shouldn’t I be able to help the Thornton family grow? If I want to, I can definitely make men respect me, just like Sophie does!‘

Xavier hadn’t expected his sister to make such a request. After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. “Alright. If I really become the heir, that means the entire Thornton family’s business will be ours. Whatever position you want, you’ll have it.”

‘Impossible.‘ Xavier thought to himself.

He would never let Faye get involved in the core management. Who knew if, once she got a taste of power, she might start having ideas she shouldn’t–just like Cassian did.

Faye didn’t notice the unreadable expression on Xavier’s face. She was completely swept up in the excitement of his promise.

She was already dreaming about the day Xavier would take over the Thornton family.

‘You can let the kitchen start serving,” Victoria said as she wheeled Jack and Gerry into the dining room. Gerry gave instructions to the butler.

The butler nodded, then lowered his head and spoke into the tiny intercom on his collar. “Serve the dishes.”

Gerry sat down, handed his cane to the butler, and looked kindly at Victoria, who was sitting next to Jack. “You know, Victoria, this is actually the first time you’ve had a meal alone with me and Jack.”

‘Yes,” Victoria nodded. “Before, it was always at parties.”

Gerry said, “Our chef isn’t some fancy star chef from abroad. He’s an old cook from Jack’s grandmother’s hometown. When she moved here after marrying into our family, I was worried she wouldn’t get used to the food in Benwig City, so I brought him here with a generous salary.”

‘His dishes were renowned locally. The old chef has retired now, and his son has taken over in the kitchen. The taste is nearly as good as it used to be.”

Victoria smiled with anticipation. “Then I’ll definitely give it a try.”

When all the dishes hit the table, Victoria was taken aback–every single plate was piled high with chili peppers. This was nothing like the usual mild flavors in Benwig City.

Jack grinned and said, “My grandma was a real spicy lady back in the day–nobody for miles around could ever push her around.”

“So you guys always ate food this spicy?” Victoria asked, curious, as she picked up her fork and grabbed a piece of Chili Beef

The spiciness exploded in her mouth, making her feel both thrilled and tortured at the same time. She always prided herself on handling heat, but this was on a whole different level–even her eyes started to water.

Jack picked up the kettle and poured her a glass of warm water, sliding it over to her. “Honestly, I didn’t get to eat like this

Gerry took the opportunity. “Victoria, since you’re going to be Jack’s wife, there are a few things I want to talk to you about.” Victoria set her glass down, grabbed a piece of Cajun Pork Stir–fry, and said, “Grandpa, go ahead, say whatever you want.” Then she stuffed the Cajun Pork Stir–fry right into her mouth.

Compared to Victoria, Gerry was much more composed as he ate. He said, “In families like ours, with so many heirs, true harmony is almost impossible. Even if I don’t give everything to Jack, the rest of the family will still feel slighted.”

‘Back then, I picked Angelica to be Jack’s wife because she was the top socialite in Benwig City, and I figured she’d be a real asset to him in running the Thornton family.”

‘But you, Victoria, are Jack’s own choice. After Jack’s accident, the Binder family tried to take advantage and bring you back to marry him in Angelica’s place. I was ready to call off the engagement, but when Jack returned, he insisted on keeping the marriage alliance with the Binder family.”

‘At first, I couldn’t figure out why, but after meeting you at the welcome banquet, I understood exactly why he’s so drawn to you.”

“To be honest, even after Jack lost the use of his legs, I never considered replacing him as the heir. But being disabled does make it much harder for him to hold the reins of the family.”

“That’s why I wasn’t angry about what you did to Faye tonight. I know Jack needs you, and I want to use your strengths to help him secure his place in the Thornton family.”

Jack’s expression grew solemn as he said firmly, “Grandpa, you really don’t need to worry. I can handle everything with the Thornton family on my own.”

Jackson never intended to use Victoria.

He married her for one reason–he liked her, plain and simple.

Even though her mouth was on fire, Victoria managed to keep a straight face and said, “Grandpa, you’re reading too much into it. I’m treating Jack’s leg because I’m his fiancée and a doctor. Even if Jack were just any patient, if I could help and you paid me, I’d do it. That’s not taking advantage of anyone.”

She paused, then gave a satisfied smile. “Plus, just thinking about how Jack’s beautiful face will be all mine someday makes me eager to help.”

Seeing her face flushed from the heat yet still joking around, Jack couldn’t help but laugh. He refilled her water and said gently, “If it’s too spicy, just stop. Try some of the milder dishes instead.”

“It’s fine! It’s spicy, but it’s so good!” Victoria shook her head, showing she didn’t mind, and was already reaching for another dish with her fork.

Jack smiled helplessly, indulgent as ever, and didn’t try to stop her.

Gerry sighed. “You really are just like Jack’s mom. She fell for my hopeless son Donald back in the day, all because of that handsome face of his.”

Victoria gave a little smile. “Totally normal. You know what they say–food comes first, but beauty is always a close second.”

Gerry gave Jack a once–over and said, “You know, Donald may have failed you in a lot of ways, but the one thing he did right was giving you that handsome face.”

Jack smiled faintly, with a touch of bitterness. ‘Yeah, that’s true, he thought.
