A week after the script for Chasing the Dream was submitted to the Broadcasting Administration, it was officially approved. and the casting process began in earnest.
Victoria had handed over all casting decisions to Frank, so she didn’t pay much attention to it. Instead, she started preparing her first original album.
For her debut album, Victoria planned to release just three singles.
Meanwhile, posts started popping up online accusing Victoria of deliberately freezing out Curtis, and a lot of netizens began to go after her.
[If you can’t forgive Curtis and won’t work with him, then just let him go! Instead of letting him leave, you’re freezing him out. Victoria, that’s honestly disgusting!]
[I’m not even a fan of Curtis, but I can’t take this anymore! I’m just a music lover, and every one of his songs really moves me. There are so few artists these days who pour their heart into original, high–quality music.]
[I really don’t want Curtis to be buried in obscurity and have his talent wasted! Otherwise, it’s a real shame for us music lovers, and an even bigger loss for the whole music scene!]
[Brightstar Entertainment sucks, and so does Victoria! Just let Curtis go already!]
[Yeah, terminate the contract! Let our best Curtis shine bright!]
Victoria didn’t even have to think about it. She knew all those posts trashing her online were probably Gale Entertainment fanning the flames, just to push Curtis into breaking his contract with Brightstar Entertainment.
Last time, Simon had betrayed her by testifying for Faye just to get the antidote. Now, she had no idea what Curtis would do.
But soon, Victoria couldn’t help but laugh. There was really nothing to wonder about.
It was obvious Curtis would betray her too.
Just as she was thinking about it, her phone buzzed with a new WhatsAPP message.
Victoria tapped it open–it was from Curtis.
[Vic, have you seen the trending topics online?]
[Can we talk?]
Victoria replied.
[What’s there to talk about?]
Curtis replied almost instantly.
[If you just ask me to stay, I promise I won’t leave Brightstar Entertainment. I’ll even post on social media to clear things up, saying it’s my own decision and you had nothing to do with it.]
Victoria: [Are you threatening me?]
Curtis: [No, Vic, can’t you see I’m pleading with you, not threatening you?]

At Gale Entertainment, Curtis stared at Victoria’s brief reply, feeling a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite shake.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
Across from him, Marty’s lips curled into a subtle smile, his eyes shining with the thrill of having his scheme work out.
It was like everything was under his control.
Marty drawled, “So? Did your sister show any sign she wants to patch things up with you?”
Curtis stayed silent, his heart a mess of emotions.
On one hand, he felt let down by Victoria’s cold attitude; on the other, he started to wonder if maybe Marty was right after all.
Seeing Curtis’s reaction, Marty continued, “I’ve told you before–clinging to your sister and begging for her forgiveness won’t get you anywhere. Women only respect strength.”
He paused, then said, “If you want Victoria to accept you again, there’s only one way: show her you’re stronger than she is!
your strength to win her over, whether you want to be her man or just her brother.”
Use
Marty’s words cut Curtis deep, stabbing right into his heart.
He couldn’t help but remember–Angelica always tried to please him and Simon. Was it really because they were stronger?
Marty seemed to see right through Curtis and went on, “Think about it. Why did Angelica try so hard to please you and Simon back then? She thought you guys were tougher, and she could count on you.”
Curtis began to rethink his relationship with Victoria. Maybe Marty was right–maybe she’d only be willing to reconnect if he became strong enough to be her pillar, someone she could truly depend on.
After a brief silence, Curtis finally said, “I understand. This afternoon, I’ll go to Brightstar Entertainment to break my contract, then join Gale Entertainment.”
Marty nodded with satisfaction, knowing he’d gotten exactly what he wanted. “Excellent. I’ll have the contract ready this afternoon, ready whenever you are.” His tone brimmed with confidence and expectation.
That afternoon, Victoria had just finished recording her last song when Tracy hurried over, looking serious. “Boss, Curtis is here again. He wanted to wait for you in your office, but I thought that wasn’t appropriate, so I had him wait in the lounge instead.”
Victoria nodded. “Got it.”
She knew exactly what Curtis wanted to talk about this time.
She took the glass of warm water Tracy handed her, drank half of it, then left the recording studio and headed for the lounge.
As soon as Victoria stepped into the lounge, Curtis looked up, his eyes immediately finding her.
There was an urgency in his gaze, like he had so much he wanted to say.
Victoria sat down slowly on the sofa across from him, her expression blank as she stared at Curtis.

defeated.
Victoria didn’t reply. She just looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
“So you really won’t forgive me, and you’re determined to sideline me for good, huh?” Curtis frowned, clearly anxious.
Victoria ignored his question and confronted him directly, “So all those posts smearing me and Brightstar–was that your doing? You set this up just to pressure me into boosting you with the company’s resources, didn’t you?”
Curtis blurted out, “It wasn’t me!” But even as the words left his mouth, he knew how unconvincing they sounded.
After all, given how things stood between him and Victoria, he knew she wasn’t likely to buy it, no matter what he said.
Sure enough, Victoria said, “Doesn’t matter if you did it or not–there’s no way you’re not involved.”
Curtis spoke with genuine sorrow, “Vic, I’m serious. If you can let go of the grudges and misunderstandings between us, I’ll stay at Brightstar Entertainment and keep working hard, writing songs and earning for the company. I haven’t forgotten what I promised you–no matter how much I make, it’ll go to you.”
But Victoria didn’t even hesitate before turning him down. “I mean it. I don’t need you to make money for me.”
A faintly bitter smile appeared on Curtis’s lips. He knew Victoria wasn’t going to budge–no amount of persuasion would make a difference now.
After a brief silence, he finally met Victoria’s gaze and said, “So, about you wanting to terminate my contract…”
