Chapter 270
When his little sister called him trash, Curtis felt a sting deep inside.
To Victoria, he really was nothing but trash back then.
He couldn’t deny it.
“Curtis, let’s go. Someday, your sister will regret turning her back on you,” Marty said, already making his way to the door.
Curtis stood up and gave Victoria a long, searching look. Realizing she truly had nothing to say to him, he left quietly with a heavy heart.
As they arrived at Brightstar Entertainment, a man in an azure blue tracksuit walked right past them.
Curtis frowned. Once the man had gone upstairs, he turned to Marty and said, “That was Brian.”
Marty blinked in surprise. “Brian?”
Curtis nodded. “Yeah.”
“What’s Larry doing at Brightstar Entertainment?” Marty had been in the business for ages, and he knew pretty much anyone worth knowing in the industry.
He was no stranger to Brian’s name.
Brian had snagged Best Actor with his debut film, but after he was exposed for betraying his supporters and cheating on his assistant, he fell from grace fast. After that, nobody would cast him anymore.
‘Wait, is he the lead for Chasing the Dream?” Marty guessed, then grinned. “Curtis, if your sister actually picks Brian as the male lead, she’s really asking for trouble!”
Curtis kept quiet.
He was genuinely worried. ‘Could Victoria really be planning what Marty just guessed? That’d be a disaster, Curtis thought.
‘Looks like it’ll be a piece of cake to make Chasing the Dream a total flop,” Marty said as he got into the car. “Curtis, are you heading straight to the company to start today?”
Curtis shook his head. “No, I’m going to stay home and work on some new songs these next few days. I’ll start officially on the first of next month.”
Marty nodded. “Alright, just focus on writing a bunch of new songs at home. Your debut at Gale Entertainment has to be a knockout. At least one of your songs needs to make it into the top ten of the annual charts.”
Curtis nodded. “I understand.”
He’d only been in the game for two years, but his very first song shot straight to the top of the charts and made him an overnight sensation. The songs that came after never hit that same high, but they still got some recognition and decent play.
But that wasn’t enough for him.
He wanted to reach a level no other singer in the industry could ever touch.
Only then will Victoria finally notice me, forgive me, and accept me,‘ Curtis thought.

There was a knock at the door.
Tracy’s voice came from outside.
“Boss, Brian is here,” Tracy announced.
Victoria looked up toward the door, said, “Come in,” then got up from her desk and walked over to the reception sofa.
“What would you like to drink?” she asked.
Brian sat down, took off his hat and mask, and said politely, “Just some water is fine.”
Victoria studied Brian closely now that he’d taken off his disguise. ‘Frank really does have a sharp eye. I have to admit, Brian is a perfect fit for the male lead in my novel, Chasing the Dream,‘ she thought.
There was a kind of battle–worn weariness about him, like he’d come back from the dead, but his eyes still held a glimmer of hope.
‘You know why I called you here. I don’t like wasting time, so I’ll get straight to the point. Three years ago, all that dirt that ruined your career–was there something you couldn’t talk about? If you’ve got something you’ve been hiding, just spit it out. I can help you deal with it,” Victoria said.
Brian met Victoria’s eyes. “I’ve heard your name plenty of times, and you’re always blowing up online.”
“There were rumors about you and Jackson Thornton, the big shot from the capital, the Clark family’s second son, and even Curtis Binder the singer–and a bunch more.”
‘So when I heard Frank was holding auditions for the lead in Chasing the Dream, I thought I’d try my luck. Maybe it’d be a shot at something new.”
‘I didn’t expect it to actually work out.”
‘Ms. Binder, if I told you I need your help to save my girlfriend, Ashley, would you do it?” Larry asked, his voice tinged with desperation.
Victoria had expected Brian to drop some wild, messy drama–like maybe his girlfriend Ashley had betrayed him, hooked up with someone richer, and then ruined his name just to protect her own reputation.
But she never expected Larry to ask her to save Ashley.
‘What’s going on?” Victoria leaned back on the sofa, her eyes full of curiosity and surprise.
Larry took a deep breath and spilled the whole story to Victoria–he didn’t hold anything back about him and his girlfriend, Ashley.
‘Everything you read online is true. Three years ago, I only got my shot at acting–and winning Best Actor–because Ashley was the one who always stood by me, cheering me on and supporting me every step of the way. If it wasn’t for her, I would’ve given up on acting ages ago,” Brian said. “But I had no idea that everything I achieved came at the cost of Ashley’s
sacrifice.”
“Ashley caught the eye of a powerful guy from the capital–someone you just can’t mess with. She didn’t want to drag me down with her, so she gave in. She struck a deal: if he gave me a role, she’d do whatever he asked.”
“But even that wasn’t enough for him. The day I won Best Actor, he arranged a car accident–he wanted me dead. I survived, but my assistant, who was driving for me, died instead. After that, he spread rumors that I was sleeping with my assistant, and made sure I was blacklisted everywhere.”

“I never figured out if that big shot was really obsessed with Ashley or just playing games, but either way, he pulled strings to get her into showbiz and threw loads of cash at her, making sure she got famous…” Brian said.
Victoria interrupted him. “Hold on–did Ashley actually tell you all this herself, or is this just your own theory?”
Brian gave a bitter smile. “It’s just my own theory… But after the accident, while I was stuck in the hospital, I kept going over everything Ashley ever said to me. That’s when I realized she’d been trying to tell me something all along.”
“And every time she shows up in interviews, you can just tell something’s wrong. Her eyes are totally lifeless–like all the hope’s been drained out of her. She looks completely weighed down, like she’s suffocating,” Brian said, his voice thick with
worry.
“I can see it–if I don’t step in soon, she might actually do something to end it all!” Brian blurted out, his voice trembling with desperation.
Brian said all this with absolute certainty, his face dead serious.
Victoria crossed her arms and looked at him. “If you told anyone else this, they’d probably say you got your head scrambled in that accident.”
“Yeah, I know…” Brian said, realizing what she meant. “So, you actually believe me?”
Victoria said seriously, “Honestly, it’s your looks and the vibe you give off–they’re a perfect match for the male lead in Chasing the Dream. That’s why I’m willing to investigate your story and see if it’s real. Besides, Frank vouches for your character.”
‘So, I’ll look into what you said and find out if there’s really some big shot behind Ashley, forcing her, as you claim.”
Brian had kept his cool throughout, but after hearing Victoria’s response, he grew visibly agitated. Then, his tone turned anxious. “I’m really worried that even if you find out everything I said is true, you still won’t have the guts to take on that big shot.”
