Hearing the question. Nathan gathered up the documents on his desk and leaned back in his chair Thanks to you Eve uncovered some valuable information
On the other end Mrs Tooth sounded puzzled. I don’t get what you mean. Nathan
Nathan’s eyes sparkled with excitement “You don’t need to get it. Just take your reward Three million dollars will be deposited into your account tomorrow. As for the person who killed your mother, don’t worry I’ll find out who it is soon
The fact that the kid Mrs. Tooth was searching for turned out to be Jackson’s real younger brother was worth way more than three million dollars to Nathan.
If he managed to find Jackson’s brother before Jackson did, he could leave Jackson in the dust and become the top golden boy among the Benwig City.
“Alright. I believe in your skills, Mr. Clark. I’ll keep doing everything I can for you,” Ya replied.
As Nathan hung up, Lexi set down her lunchbox and slid in next to him. She leaned over, wrapped her arm around his, and asked with curiosity, “Nate, who called you? You look like you’re in a great mood today.”
Nathan tossed his phone aside and turned to stare at her, his eyes sharp. “Just some woman. What, are you planning to get jealous again like you did with Angelica last time and go after her?”
When Nathan brought up Angelica, Lexi’s guard went up. She remembered what Victoria had told her–Nathan had already tracked down Angelica, so Angelica must’ve spilled the beans about how Lexi helped Victoria take her away.
That meant Nathan was keeping an eye on her now.
With the way Nathan was, if he knew she’d betrayed him, there’s no way he’d let her get away with it.
But since he hadn’t called her out yet, it meant he still thought she was useful.
Even though Victoria had already warned her not to get involved anymore and just protect herself, Lexi still felt uneasy.
But if she did nothing at all, could she really keep herself safe? Was she supposed to just stand by and watch her father’s secret son take over the company, while she got married off to Nathan as nothing more than a bargaining chip in a political alliance?
Right now, her only goal was to make Nathan drop his suspicions about her.
“Are you still mad at me for letting Angelica go?” Lexi asked, giving him her most innocent look as she hugged his arm and rocked it gently. “It’s only because I care about you so much that I got so worked up.”
Seeing Nathan’s face still icy, she kept on, “You know how it was–Angelica was always the top genius in the capital’s social scene, and I was always second–best. You get how frustrating that is, right?”
“When I heard you were keeping her hidden away like your secret treasure–even though she wasn’t even in the entertainment world, she kept making headlines and overshadowing me–how could I not be upset?”
At that, Nathan’s face darkened.
Yeah, it was exactly because Lexi was known as the capital’s number two beauty that Nathan had noticed her in the first place.
Just like him–always the runner–up, never the champion.

When Nathan found out Gerry Thornton wanted Jackson and Angelica to get engaged, he picked the capital’s runner–up goddess to be his own hanece, just to compete
He didn i buy that second place was all hed ever get
So. Nathan pulled every string he could, showering Lexi with resources just to make sure she’d steal the spotlight from Angelte a
His fiancée had to be even more dazzling than Jackson’s bride–to–be.
But now the fiancee he’d carefully chosen was about to stab him in the back, teaming up with Victoria–the girl who’d pissed off the Clarks
Nate Lonly defied you because I wanted you all to myself,” Lexi said, after laying the groundwork and finally getting to the point There’s something I’ve been keeping from you. I was worried you’d be angry if you found out, but if I don’t tell you now you might get the wrong idea about me.”
Nathan frowned, saying nothing.
Lexi pressed on, ignoring his silence. “Victoria told me about you keeping Angelica hidden. I knew she’d crossed you and the Clark family, so I figured I’d earn her trust and then find a chance to teach her a lesson for you. That’s why I pretended to go along with her and helped her let Angelica escape.”
Hearing Lexi openly admit she’d worked with Victoria, Nathan was caught off guard. He finally turned to look at her, his eyes full of suspicion as he scrutinized her every move.
She’d actually confessed to teaming up with Victoria—and even managed to come up with a plausible explanation for it.
Was she really just helping me deal with Victoria all along, and never actually betrayed me?‘ Nathan wondered.
Nathan desperately wanted to believe that.
The thought of being betrayed by a woman was something he simply couldn’t accept.
‘Any woman I set my sights on wouldn’t even think about betraying me,‘ Nathan thought to himself.
Nathan narrowed his eyes, “Oh yeah? So what kind of dirt did you get from her to take her down?”
Lexi looked disappointed. “She was super cautious and didn’t really tell me much. All she said was that she’s planning to drop a bombshell with the new show Soaring Upwards, which Gale Entertainment is producing specifically to compete with Chasing the Dream. The big scandal will center on the male lead, so she wanted me to help pick him out for her.”
“Do you really think I can trust you?” Nathan grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him, his voice cold and full of
accusation.
Lexi’s eyes started to well up with tears. “Nate, I love you so much. How could I ever lie to you?” Her voice trembled with
emotion
Her expression was so vulnerable that Nathan’s heart almost melted for a moment.
But just as quickly, his face went cold again.
To Nathan, it didn’t matter if Lexi was truly loyal, if she’d actually betrayed him, or if she was just pretending to work with Victoria. If there was even the slightest chance she might break free from his grasp, he’d rather be ruthless and eliminate anyone who threatened his control–no matter the cost.
“You better not be lying to me. Because everyone who’s ever betrayed me is already sleeping with the fishes.” Nathan said, his

Nathan’s words made Lexi shiver inside. When he finally let go of her chin, she coughed a few times, trying to catch her breath
Then she lifted her head, pushed her fear down, and stared right into Nathan’s eyes. “If I’m lying to you, let my whole family pay the price
Her voice shook, but her words were firm.
Nathan locked eyes with her, sizing her up as if he could see right through her, trying to decide if she was being honest.
Lexi jumped at the chance, quickly offering, “Believe me or not, let’s just eat. Come on, give my cooking a try…”
Her tone was clearly meant to please him, hoping to smooth things over and lighten the mood between them.
But Nathan cut her off. “You’re my fiancée. You don’t need to do stuff like this for me.”
He thought, ‘She’s just meant to be handed over to some big shots who can boost the Clark family. All she needs to do is take care of herself–keep every inch of her body in top condition.’
Lexi was secretly pleased–her efforts seemed to be paying off, and she could tell Nathan was starting to trust her again. She flashed him a smile and said, “Alright, I’ll leave you to it. Don’t forget to eat, okay? You shouldn’t skip meals.”
With that, she got up to head out.
But just as she reached the door, Lexi suddenly stopped. She glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then quietly pressed her ear against the door, holding her breath as she tried to pick up on what was happening inside.
You have one week to catch the two people Mrs. Tooth wants! Bring the younger one to me, and hand the older one over to Mrs. Tooth,” Nathan’s voice rang out.
Nathan’s voice rang out.
Lexi frowned. ‘Who exactly is Mrs. Tooth?‘ she wondered.
Why would Nathan go out of his way to help her track someone down?‘ she thought.
So that’s what got Nathan so excited earlier–it was all because of Mrs. Tooth?‘ Lexi mused.
