Zachary laughed, “Good one. I heard Mr. Lowe is planning to hand the company over to you. So let me congratulate you in advance, Timothy.”

Timothy shot a glance at Lexi, who didn’t look too happy. “It’s still early days.

Lexi clenched her fists, trying hard not to show how upset she was, but still looking hurt and humiliated.

She looked up at Nathan, the man of few words, and said softly, “Nathan, you have to trust me.”

Nathan took her hand, with a warning in his voice. “Of course. But if you ever betray me, I won’t let you off, and Gale Entertainment won’t get away either.”

Lexi pressed her face against his chest, clinging to him. “How could I? I only hope you’ll never leave me.”

At that moment, Timothy pushed, “Alright, Lexi, keep singing for Mr. Clark and cheer him up.”

Lexi looked hurt and said, “Nathan, I’m your woman. Are you going to stand there and let them treat me like this? Doesn’t that mean they’re looking down on you, too?”

Nathan’s glare made Timothy freeze, and he clamped his mouth shut, but he still shot Lexi a nasty look.

Lexi had been hanging out with Nathan until ten o’clock, but she hadn’t managed to dig up any useful information.

A little tipsy, she tugged on Nathan’s arm, putting on her best puppy eyes.

Before Nathan could answer, Timothy jumped in with a hint of annoyance, “Can’t you see Mr. Clark isn’t done having fun yet? Lexi, I’ll take you home.”

“I don’t need you to take me,” Lexi shot back at Timothy. Then, turning to Nathan, she pouted, “Nathan, if you’re not coming, I’ll go by myself.”

With that, she stormed out of the private room, making a show of being mad.

“Mr. Clark, what do you think?” Timothy asked.

“Go. I don’t trust her going home alone,” Nathan said coldly.

“Alright, Mr. Clark.” With Nathan’s nod, Timothy got up and left the private room.

Nathan watched the siblings leave one after the other, his gaze icy and unmoved.

He saw clearly that Timothy, the bastard son, had been giving Lexi a hard time all night, both in public and in private.

But Nathan didn’t interfere.

No matter if Lexi had betrayed him or not, Nathan wanted her to understand that how good her life was at home all came down to how he felt about her.

As they reached the door, Timothy hurried after Lexi, his voice cold and dripping with sarcasm. “Lexi, I know you’re pissed and wronged.

Lexi froze and slowly turned around, her eyes burning right through Timothy.

But Timothy wasn’t about to let it go. He shot Lexi a vicious glare, gritting his teeth. “When I finally take over the company, and Nathan’s done playing with you, I’ll have plenty of ways to deal with you.”

Lexi smacked his hand off her collar. “Talk to me when you manage to take over the company.”

With that, she clenched her fists so tight that her nails dug into her palms, and walked straight toward the elevator without looking back.

Lexi swore to herself she’d never let this bastard have any chance to mess with her.

Timothy still followed her into the elevator.

He sneered, “Lexi, are you still living in a fantasy? You really think Nathan gives a damn about you? You think you can challenge me and come out on top?

“Your mom’s already dead. Why can’t you keep your head down?”

Hearing her mother’s name sent a surge of rage through Lexi.

She swung her hand up to slap Timothy again, but this time he was quick. He blocked her move and grabbed her wrist before she could strike.

Timothy squeezed her wrist hard, his voice cold. “If you don’t want to end up like your mom, you’d better keep Mr. Clark happy for Dad and me. Maybe then I’ll still be the only family you can count on.”

When the elevator hit the basement, Lexi jerked her hand out of Timothy’s grip. “Don’t celebrate just yet.

“I’ll make you and your mom wish you’d never been born. I’ll make your lives a living hell.”

With that, she stormed off straight toward her car.

After getting in her car and leaving Midnight Blue, Lexi grabbed her spare phone from the glove compartment and called Victoria.

She brought up her bet with Zachary. “I bet Zachary, after I pissed him off, went running to his boss Nathan to snitch, begging him to hurry up and punish me.”
