“Jack, I need to take this call. Let’s wrap up for tonight. Get some rest,” Victoria said, a touch of regret in her
voice.
She really wanted to keep chatting, but she knew Lexi would only call for something important.
Jackson’s lips curled into a gentle smile. “Alright, take care. I’ll let you handle it.”
After hanging up with Jackson, Victoria shifted on the bed and picked up Lexi’s call.
“It’s pretty late. Is everything okay?” Victoria asked.
Lexi sounded anxious on the other end. “I overheard Nathan and Zachary talking tonight. They’re planning something big against you at your birthday party.”
Victoria’s brows knitted, and she let out a mocking laugh. “Something big? I’d really like to see how Nathan plans to pull something off at my birthday party when I didn’t invite anyone from the Clark family.”
Lexi continued, “If I’m not mistaken, your deadbeat dad, Darell, was the one who called Nathan’s assistant.
“I heard Nathan say he’s going to send Sirena to Darell and let him figure out a way to sneak into the Binder family and crash your birthday party.”
“So that’s how it is. Darell did side with the Clark family,” Victoria said, not surprised at all. But trying to use Sirena to get into the Binder family? What kind of scheme was he cooking up?
Last time, Sirena had a huge blow–up with Calvin, swearing she’d never set foot in the Binder family again. Even if Calvin died, she wouldn’t show up for his funeral.
“I’m not meddling too much, am I?” Lexi asked.
Victoria pulled herself back from her thoughts, sensing that Lexi wanted her approval.
At first, Victoria didn’t want Lexi to risk herself by getting involved, but she was willing to respect Lexi’s wishes.
“Your warning was really helpful to me. As thanks, besides helping you win Gale Entertainment when the time comes, I can do one more thing for you now,” Victoria said.
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Lexi spoke, her breath coming fast and her voice tight with anger. “I want Timothy’s mother to suffer a hundred times worse than my mom did.”
“Okay,” Victoria agreed without hesitation, so quickly that Lexi was caught off guard.
“Really?” Lexi asked, barely believing it.
“Yes,” Victoria said, her answer firm.
“Thanks. Honestly, I thought about hiring someone to mess up Timothy’s mother, but I was scared I’d slip up

“Don’t worry. With me handling it, no one will trace it back to you. Wait, and you’ll get good news in three days,” Victoria promised.
“Okay,” Lexi replied.
After hanging up, Victoria glanced at the calendar on her phone.
Her birthday party was only a week away.
Victoria mused, ‘So what exactly is Nathan scheming?
‘Is there really anything they could do to bring me down? It’s not like they’d try something petty.‘
If it were some small–time drama, Darell wouldn’t have gone out of his way to rope in the Clark family.
The worst thing would be if someone ended up dead.
Victoria thought, ‘Are they seriously thinking about poisoning someone at my birthday party and pinning it on me?
‘That’s ridiculous.
‘No one in their right mind would poison someone at their own birthday party!’
Victoria still had no clue what they were really up to.
Before anything else, she needed Mara to dig deep and find out what Darell had offered Nathan to get him on board with causing trouble at her birthday party.
She pulled out her phone and called Mara. “Mara, have someone keep tabs on Darell’s recent moves.”
“Got it, boss,” Mara replied.

After hanging up with Victoria, Jackson was about to set his phone down on the nightstand and call it a night when a message from Stephen suddenly popped up.
Stephen: [Hey, Mr. Thornton, you and Grandpa are both going to Ms. Binder’s birthday party, right?]
Jackson couldn’t help but let out a wry smile when he saw the message.
Stephen calling him “Mr. Thornton” always made him feel awkward, as if he were a stranger instead of his own brother.
He replied: [Yeah, what’s up?]
Almost instantly, Stephen shot back: [Can I come, too?]

Jackson’s eyes flickered. ‘It’s so late. Did he really text me to ask if he could go to Vickie’s birthday party?
‘Is he interested in Vickie or something?‘
But he quickly brushed the thought aside. ‘If Stephen liked Vickie, he wouldn’t be so blunt about it with me.
‘After all, Stephen knows full well that Vickie is my fiancée.’
Jackson replied: [If you want to go, of course you can. I’ll ask Vickie for an invite for you.]
Stephen: [Thanks, Mr. Thornton.]
Jackson: [Don’t mention it. We’re brothers.]
Stephen didn’t text back.
Jackson didn’t mind. He scrolled back through the chat with Stephen, and it didn’t take him long to figure out what Stephen was after.
The next morning, over breakfast, Daisy asked with concern, “Victoria, I saw the trending topic on X. Did you really bet with Zachary from the Davis family?”
Victoria grinned. “Yeah, Mom, don’t worry about it. There’s no way I’m losing.
“He kept running his mouth in the group chat, saying Brightstar Entertainment would crash and burn within two months after I took over. I want to make him look like a fool.”
Daisy explained, “I’m not worried about you losing, but I am worried you’re making too many enemies in the high society crowd.
“Zachary might not have much power at home, but the Davis family still has some real influence in Benwig City.”
Victoria had made enemies with Darell’s family, Xavier and Felix’s families, the Clark family, the Turner family from Gale Entertainment, and Gavin wouldn’t leave her alone. Now, she’d added the Davis family to the list.
Victoria was smack dab in the middle of Benwig City’s high society storm. It was impossible not to worry about it.
Victoria smiled, unfazed. “Well, that’s on the Davis family for not raising their son right. If they can’t teach him how to behave, I’ll do it for them.”
Seeing Daisy getting all worked up again, Hector jumped in, “Victoria’s right. Look at the chat logs. Zachary started it. Why should Victoria sit back and take it?
“Besides, is that really the kind of person Victoria is?
“And honestly, you wouldn’t want Victoria to put up with that kind of treatment, would you?”

Daisy couldn’t help but laugh. “Look at you, going on and on. As her dad, you’d better protect our daughter.”
Hector said with a serious look, “You got it.”
Victoria laughed, too. “Oh, by the way, Dad, I was wondering if I could get that electronic gadget you mentioned before.
“I mean the one that not only tracks your location in real time but also has some self–defense features.”
Hector looked puzzled. “Didn’t I already set you up with 001? 001 is way more useful than that gadget.”
“It’s not for me. I’m planning to give it to someone else,” Victoria said, not saying who it was for.
Hector didn’t press for details. “Alright, I’ll bring it to you when I get back tonight.”
After breakfast, when Victoria got to Brightstar Entertainment, she saw that the trending topic about her bet with Zachary Davis was still blowing up online.
Seeing so many people online buzzing about the bet, Victoria felt a surge of satisfaction.
‘Look at that, trending without spending a dime. People online really can’t get enough of this high–society drama,‘ she thought with a smirk.
Besides, the main cast for Chasing the Dream was all over the internet. Everyone was talking about it.
