Victoria met Daisy’s worried gaze with a bright, open smile. “It has nothing to do with me. I didn’t kill Timothy.”
Hearing her so openly deny it, Daisy finally let out a sigh of relief.
Sure, people in high society did all sorts of dirty things and covered up the truth all the time, but Daisy didn’t want Victoria to become someone who treated human life like it was nothing.
She thought Timothy deserved what he got, and honestly, whoever killed him, Daisy felt a sense of satisfaction. But she just didn’t want it to be Victoria.
If it were Victoria, the Clark family and Justin would definitely make a huge deal out of it and wouldn’t rest until they’d ruined her.
With Victoria’s birthday party just three days away, Daisy couldn’t shake the worry that, on such a joyful day, Victoria might get hauled off by the cops.
The thought of Victoria going to jail was just too much for Daisy to handle. She honestly couldn’t imagine how she’d ever accept it.
“Relax, Mom. I don’t have any deep grudge against Timothy. Why would I go out of my way to kill him?” Victoria said, still as open and honest as ever.
“Then why did you go to Midnight Blue last night to look for him?” Daisy asked, confused. “I heard that after you came back, Timothy got his head busted open.”
Victoria replied, “Those are just fake rumors Nathan cooked up to make me look guilty. Is there any proof online that I was the one who busted Timothy’s head open?”
Daisy thought about it and realized Victoria was right. There was no evidence at all, and it was Nathan’s turf. Whatever happened last night, Nathan could say whatever he wanted and people would believe him.
“That’s good to hear. Honestly, if Timothy’s death really had anything to do with you, your dad and I would have no idea how to protect you,” Daisy finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Your mom’s been worried about you all day. She wanted to call, but was afraid she’d interrupt your work,” Hector said with a helpless smile.
“Sorry for making you worry, Mom,” Victoria said, a bit embarrassed as she put a piece of braised pork rib into Daisy’s bowl. “I won’t get myself into trouble. Even for you and Dad, I’ll always be careful.”
This time, Daisy didn’t argue. She just said, “Alright. Victoria, don’t blame me for being selfish, but I really can’t lose you. So if you ever do anything dangerous, please think of your dad and me, and don’t take unnecessary risks.”
“Okay,” Victoria replied.
Hector smiled and said, “Alright, now that we know Victoria had nothing to do with it, let’s dig in.”

Only then did Daisy pick up the braised pork rib Victoria had put in her bowl, finally able to eat it with no
worries.
But Hector couldn’t hide the worry in his eyes as he looked at his daughter.
Victoria might have convinced Daisy, but she couldn’t trick him.
Victoria definitely had something to do with Timothy’s death.
Still, as long as she hadn’t done it herself, Hector would just accept her story and act like Timothy’s death had nothing to do with her.

Early the next morning, Victoria had just parked her car in the garage and stepped out of the elevator when she spotted Tracy waiting anxiously by the elevator doors.
“Ms. Binder,” Tracy called out.
Before Victoria could even ask what was happening, Tracy hurried over and stepped right in front of her, panic in her voice. “Bad news, Ms. Binder. Timothy’s mother is here to see you. She’s already waiting in the reception room.”
“It’s just her, what’s the big deal?” Victoria said.
As she passed the reception room, Victoria casually glanced through the glass wall at Ophelia sitting on the sofa, but didn’t go in. Instead, she headed straight for her office at the end of the hall.
Victoria barely glanced back at the sound of the door closing, unfazed. She walked straight to her desk, sat down, set her bag aside, and booted up her computer like it was just another day.

Ophelia leaned forward, hands braced on the desk. “Spare me the nonsense. I see right through you.”
Victoria chuckled. “What, you binge too many detective dramas or something? Think you’re some kind of super sleuth now? I have no idea who Mrs. Tooth even is.
“Besides, you said Mrs. Tooth works for Nathan, so why would she do what I tell her and go run over your son?
“Doesn’t that sound pretty contradictory?”
Ophelia snapped, “Don’t try to deny it. Mrs. Tooth disappeared for a while. She must be in your hands, right? You’ve always had it out for Nathan, so grabbing Mrs. Tooth to use against him makes perfect sense for you.”
Victoria shot back, “Alright, stop trying to trap me for your recording. Is that really all you can do?”
Right after she said that, Ophelia felt something odd moving on her.
She looked down and nearly jumped out of her skin.
A small green snake quietly crawled out of her bag, the very one where she’d hidden her recorder.
Greenie slithered onto Victoria’s hand, carrying the recorder in its mouth.
Victoria took the recorder and toyed with it in her hand, shooting a dismissive glance at the still-shaken Ophelia. “Ophelia, huh? You got time to mess with me? Maybe you should be worrying about yourself instead.”
Ophelia snapped out of it. “What do you mean?”
“Your husband’s probably already having a paternity test done with your son’s body,” Victoria said, casually tightening her grip on the recorder until it snapped in her hand. She smiled and then tossed the broken pieces into the trash can by her feet.
‘A paternity test?’ Ophelia thought. ‘My son’s already dead. Why the hell would Justin want a paternity test now? He never once questioned if I was faithful to him.
Ophelia’s face turned deathly pale, her voice breaking as she shrieked, “What did you do?”
Victoria didn’t answer directly.
Instead, she continued, “Your husband really does trust you, doesn’t he? He never suspected Timothy wasn’t his son, so he never did a paternity test.”
