In Mullinran Village, Simon sat in his car, watching the villagers outside the window, each carrying their luggage as they boarded the buses one after another.

His voice sounded tired as he said. “Hasn’t Mom already gone back?”

Half an hour ago, several buses had suddenly arrived in the village, stopping right at the entrance.

When Simon saw that the person leading the group was the butler from the Binder family’s Goldenwood Villa, he quickly realized that these buses were here to take the villagers to Benwig City for Victoria’s birthday.

The villagers, excited by the news, hurried back to their homes to pack their things. Before long, they started coming out one after another and boarded the buses.

Simon stood in front of the buses, practically begging every villager who passed by to let him tag along for Victoria’s birthday celebration, but nobody even gave him a second glance.

The butler from Goldenwood Villa, leading the group, replied politely, “Simon, you really should drop the idea of joining Victoria’s birthday. If you show up, you’ll just kill her vibe.”

Simon was speechless.

After a while, he finally gave up and trudged back to his car, looking completely defeated. The moment he powered on his phone, Curtis called.

“What? Are you sure? Mom hasn’t come back at all.” Curtis sounded surprised on the other end.

Simon froze for a second and then replied quickly, “I didn’t want to go back with Mom, so we argued. She probably got annoyed and went off to clear her head somewhere.

“She’s a grown woman. It’s not like she’s just going to vanish.”

Right now, Simon really couldn’t be bothered about where his mom had gone. She was probably just acting up again, trying to get him to pay attention to her, like always.

“Alright then. So, when are you coming back, Simon? Vickie’s birthday is coming up in two days,” Curtis asked.

“I’m heading back to Benwig City today,” Simon replied, looking away and letting out a quiet sigh.

During his time in Mullinran Village, Simon had tried everything to help the villagers, but they just wouldn’t accept it. And as soon as he brought up wanting to join them for Victoria’s birthday party, they immediately got suspicious.

“Are you coming back for Vickie’s birthday party?” Curtis sounded super excited. “Simon, does that mean you finally get to go to her birthday?”

“No. The villagers still won’t have me. I guess I just don’t belong there,” Simon said bitterly.

“Alright then. If Mom finds out you’re back, she’ll probably come back tomorrow too,” Curtis said, his voice tinged with disappointment.

“Alright, that’s it for now. I’m heading out, and I should make it to Benwig City by midnight,” Simon replied. “Okay,” Curtis said.

After hanging up, Simon took one last, lingering look at the village he’d spent so much time in.

Once he was sure no one would let him join Victoria’s birthday party, he finally turned away, started his car, floored the gas pedal, and sped out of the village.

On the bus, Stephan watched Simon drive off and let out a cold snort. “He really thought he could join us for Victoria’s birthday party? Dream on”

Yorine, sitting beside him, said. “Forget about him, as long as he’s out of here, we’re good. Anyway, Stephan, what did you get Victoria for her birthday this year?”

Stephan scratched his head. “Honestly, I’ve already taught Victoria everything I know. From here on out, I just hope she can walk her own path.

“So my gift is simple. It’s a medical kit I put together myself, just for her.”

Yorine grinned. “Same here. There’s really nothing left for me to teach her, so this time, I made her a handmade, all–natural lipstick.

“She never cared much about dressing up when she was a kid, but now that she’s in Benwig City, part of a wealthy family, and a real heiress, it’s about time she pays a little attention to her image.”

“It might not be anything expensive, but I know Victoria will appreciate it,” Stephan said with confidence. “She’s always valued every bit of kindness people show her.“”

Yorine agreed warmly. “Absolutely. She’s got the skills, the brains, and still keeps that innocent heart. Victoria really is the most outstanding kid I’ve ever met.”

That night, in the damp cow shed of a rundown village, Julia huddled under a filthy, threadbare blanket, shivering as she gazed up at the night sky, feeling utterly lost.

She had no idea what day or time it was anymore. Every single day felt endless, dragging on like forever.

Suddenly, footsteps sounded nearby..

Julia quickly looked away from the sky and curled up in the corner, trying to make herself as small as possible.

“She got enough of a lesson. We’ll let her go in a couple of days. I know. You have no idea. She’s just like a stray dog now,” the man who had kidnapped her said as he pushed open the door and walked in.

He gave Julia’s curled–up body a couple of kicks. “Hey, lady, I’ve got some good news for you.”

Julia stayed silent.

“Tch, what, did all this mess break you already?” the man scoffed.

He hung up, shoved his phone away, then crouched down and grabbed a fistful of Julia’s hair, jerking her head up. She let out a muffled groan of pain.

“Not dead, huh? Playing possum with me?” He forced Julia to meet his gaze. “Hear this–two days from now, I’ll let you out. So, what do you think? Feeling happy?”

Julia stayed silent, showing no reaction at all.

“Not talking? Tch, you’re really no fun,” the man scoffed.

He released her hair and left, barely sparing her another glance. 2/4

Once she was sure the man wasn’t coming back, Julia pushed herself up, grimacing from the pain. She gingerly shifted her body and tried to tidy her hair, hoping to look a little less pathetic.

Suddenly, her eyes caught a crack in the wooden pole securing the chain around her wrist.

A glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes.

It that pole breaks, I could finally make a run for it, Julia thought.

Her breathing grew rapid.

She didn’t hesitate. With everything she had, she yanked at the chain, straining until the wooden pole cracked with a loud

snap.

For the first time, a rush of hope flooded her. Maybe she could actually make it out alive.

‘Run. Julia urged herself. ‘Get out, now.‘

That was the only thing on Julia’s mind.

After Julia scrambled out of the cow shed, the man stood leisurely by the window, watching her disappear into the night. He unhurriedly pulled out his phone and dialed Darell’s number.

He said, “I let her go, just like we planned. If nothing goes wrong, she’ll make it back to Benwig City by tomorrow.

“Now, it’s up to you to make sure your wife and your precious daughter end up at each other’s throats at the birthday party.”

After hanging up, Darell stood by the window, his gaze conflicted.

He lingered there for a long time, lost in thought, before finally snapping out of it and heading back to bed.

‘Julia… Darell murmured inwardly. ‘I’m sorry. I know you won’t blame me for this, right?‘

Julia had no clue how long she’d been running in the dark. She felt like she was about to drop, totally spent. No matter how many times she tripped and hit the ground, she never dared to stop for a second.
