“Help me!” Julia shouted.

Even though Julia was desperately calling out for help, the driver didn’t even slow down or show any intention of picking her up. The car just sped past, leaving her stranded and alone..

Afraid the people chasing her would catch up, Julia didn’t dare stop. She kept walking along the road, her heart pounding with fear.

There weren’t many cars out at night, and after the first one passed, it was another twenty minutes before she finally saw a second car.

When the headlights appeared, she waved her arms again and shouted, “Help me!”

But just like last time, the car sped right past her, not even slowing down.

Julia glanced over her shoulder. She couldn’t waste another second. She had no choice but to keep going.

Meanwhile, Simon had already arrived in Benwig City that night.

He had his own rented place, not living with Curtis and the others, so after getting back to his place, he sent Curtis a message. [I’m back in Benwig City.]

Thinking about what Curtis had told him earlier–that Julia hadn’t returned to Benwig City–Simon paused, then dialed his mom’s number.

Just like Curtis said, the call didn’t go through.

Simon let out a sigh. He was dead tired lately and just didn’t have the energy to worry about where his mom had gone.

After putting his phone down, he went to take a shower, then crawled into bed to rest.

But even though he was exhausted, he just couldn’t fall asleep, kept tossing and turning in bed.

Simon picked up his phone again. Instead of texting his sister Victoria, he messaged Betty Bell, a female employee from Brightstar Entertainment, whom he’d kept in touch with. [How’s the company been lately?]

What he really wanted to know was how Victoria was doing.

Betty replied pretty quickly. [The company’s doing well. Mr. Binder’s new song is about to drop.]

[Chasing the Dream got a lot of flak for the casting, but after Justin’s son from Gale Entertainment died in a car accident, the attention shifted, so it’s not really a big deal anymore.]

Simon was still trying to figure out how to get some useful info about Victoria from Betty, but before he could say anything, she sent another message. [Last time your mom came to Brightstar Entertainment looking for you.]

[She didn’t know where you were, so she went straight to Mr. Binder to ask about you. She made a scene at the office and even said some pretty nasty things to me.]

“Ouch.” Julia yelped.

She didn’t see the rock under her feet and stumbled, crashing to the ground.

When she managed to sit up, she saw her knee was scraped and bleeding.

Just her luck–when it rains, it pours.

At this rate, Julia was afraid she’d freeze to death right there on the side of the road.

Suddenly, a passing car came to a stop, then reversed and pulled up right next to Julia.

The window slid down.

An aloof woman glanced at Julia, raising her phone and dialing a number as she watched her.

Julia stared at the woman in the car, swallowing nervously, her eyes shining with hope. ‘I’m saved.‘ she thought.

Victoria was jolted awake by her phone ringing in the middle of the night.

She opened her eyes, grabbed her phone, and saw it was Mara calling. She figured it had to be something urgent for Mara to call her at this hour.

When she picked up, Mara didn’t waste any time and said, “Boss, we’ve found Julia.

“Looks like she’s been tied up and mistreated. She’s lost a ton of weight and is filthy. I thought this was serious enough to bother you.”

Victoria snapped to attention. “Just grab her. I’ll go see her myself tomorrow.”

“Got it,” Mara replied.

After hanging up, Victoria glanced at the time and date on her phone,

It was already past midnight–November 20th.

Her birthday was tomorrow.

Julia had been missing for ages, and now she just happened to escape today? Clearly, someone had let her go on purpose.

‘Looks like someone’s afraid Julia won’t make it to my birthday party to stir up trouble, Victoria thought. ‘Well, I’ll have a good talk with Julia and turn up the fun in this game.’

The next day, at breakfast, Victoria asked Daisy to bring her four invitations for her birthday party.

“Sure thing.” Daisy replied.

After bringing down the invitations and a pen from her room, Daisy asked, “Who are you planning to invite this time? People from the company?”

Victoria picked up the pen and replied, “Simon and the others.”

Daisy was taken aback. “Victoria, why the change of heart?”

Hector was visibly stunned.

Victoria scribbled down Simon and Curtis’s names. “Darell’s joined forces with the Clark family, and now they’re both trying to destroy me.

“Since that’s the case, instead of just playing defense, I’ll confront them directly.”

“Seriously? Darell still won’t let it go?” Daisy said, sounding frustrated.

Hector, though, understood. “After all these years, he always thought everything in the Binder family would end up with his side.

“Now, right at the finish line, he lost it all. There’s no way he’d just let it go that easily.”

He sighed and agreed, “Victoria’s right. If we can’t dodge it, then let’s take him head–on and finish him off once and for all.”

Since even Hector agreed, Daisy dropped the subject.

When Daisy saw that the last invitation was for Sirena instead of Julia, she asked curiously, “Victoria, why aren’t you inviting Julia?”

Victoria tucked the four invitations into her bag and said, “Julia will be there too, but I’ll give her a different way to join the party.”

After leaving the Binder family, Victoria headed straight to Brightstar Entertainment.

“Ms. Binder, Simon’s waiting for you in the lounge. Tracy greeted her.

Victoria joked, “That family treats Brightstar like their own hangout–just drop by whenever they want.”

Tracy nodded in agreement. “Ms. Binder, maybe we should set up a reception desk downstairs. No appointment, no entry.”

Brightstar Entertainment was a new company, still pretty small, only occupying the first three floors of the building.

The first floor had the lobby, staff lounge, and cafeteria. The second floor was the CEO’s office and an open workspace for the admin staff.

The third floor was where the agents worked, plus the conference and training rooms.

Victoria said, “Alright, have HR start recruiting and set up the reception desk.”

“OK” Tracy said.

Victoria leaned against the doorway, not bothering to step inside. She glanced at Simon lounging on the couch and said. “Three minutes. Say what you need to say.”

Simon looked darker than before–guess he really did rough it out there in the village.

“I went to the village you used to live in,” Simon said.

“Oh. I know. Your mom caused a whole scene at the company,” Victoria snarked.

Simon fumbled for words, then said, “Your uncles and aunts seem pretty nice to you.”

“Isn’t that just normal? At least they’re not totally nuts like your family,” Victoria shot back.

Simon was left speechless again. “Yesterday, I saw Uncle Curtis had the butler pick them up and bring them back to Benwig City. They’re all settled in now, right?”

“None of your business,” Victoria said coolly, glancing at the time. “If that’s all, I won’t waste any more time here.”

As Victoria turned to leave, Simon jumped up, his voice a little rushed, “Vickie, can I come to your birthday party tomorrow?”

Simon had already prepared himself to be turned down, but he couldn’t help holding onto a shred of hope.

“Sure.” Victoria said flatly, not missing a beat.
