Seeing Simon still standing there in a daze, Victoria waved the invitations in front of him. “Do you want them or not?”

Simon finally snapped out of it, hurried over, and grabbed the invitations, holding them close like they were the best thing ever. “Okay.”

Seeing Simon looking like he couldn’t believe his luck, Victoria looked away and walked off toward her office.

In the open office, Betty, sitting at her desk, watched Simon leave and then looked away, feeling a bit dispirited.

‘Work hard, Betty told herself. ‘Make money. Improve yourself. Don’t expect overnight success, or you’ll just make a fool of yourself.

Even after leaving Brightstar Entertainment, Simon was still buzzing. He never expected that just by showing up today, he’d get the invitations handed to him, just like that.

He couldn’t help but wonder if all those days he spent in Mullinran Village even meant anything now.

But hey, at least things turned out well.

Once he got in the car, Simon ditched the idea of heading back to his apartment.

Instead, he decided to swing by Curtis’s place first and hand over the other three invitations to Curtis, Darell, and Sirena.

He was sure Curtis would be just as thrilled as he was when he found out Simon had gotten his little sister Victoria’s invitations.

After handing out the invitations, Simon figured he’d better start hunting for the perfect birthday present for his little sister

After Victoria told Tracy to organize a morning meeting about her new song release and the follow–up for Chasing the Dream, she didn’t even pause for breath.

She headed straight to the organization’s Benwig City base.

The organization had a base in every provincial capital, and the one in Benwig City sat in an old district where the houses were priceless but rarely up for sale.

This particular spot was a mansion that had stood for over a hundred years.

All around were old buildings, some a little worse for wear, but each one had a vibe you couldn’t find anywhere else.

“Boss, over here,” Mara called from nearby.

Victoria followed Mara into the old mansion. The place was barebones–no fancy touches, just the essentials: a few desks and some spots to relax.

Mara led Victoria down a long hallway, finally stopping in front of a dimly lit room.

As soon as Victoria stepped in, she saw Julia, tied up tightly and left on a wooden bed.

Just like Mara had said, Julia had lost a lot of weight. Her once–fair skin was now sallow, and her face was completely drained of color. She looked absolutely haggard.

She was wearing filthy clothes, her hair a tangled mess, and she looked utterly disheveled.

When Julia saw Victoria walk in, her eyes went wide. She struggled frantically to sit up on the wooden bed, yelling. “So it really was you, Victoria.”

Victoria strolled over to a chair and sat down, a relaxed smile playing on her lips. “What do you mean, so it was me? Wait, you actually think I was the one who had you kidnapped before?”

“Who else could it be if not you?” Julia twisted and shouted, her face twisted with anger. “I barely left Mullinran Village before someone grabbed me.

“She said she was hired to teach me a lesson. Who else would pay someone to do that except you?

“And after I finally managed to escape, you caught me again so fast. If it wasn’t you, then who else?

“No matter what, I’m still your mother. Aren’t you afraid you’ll get struck by lightning for treating me like this?”

Julia was ranting nonstop, barely pausing for breath.

Victoria shrugged carelessly, a smirk tugging at her lips. “Oh, you mean retribution? Yeah, I believe in payback.

“Otherwise, how else would your own husband play you for a fool and leave you so wrecked?”

Julia stiffened instantly, her body frozen like she’d been hit with a spell. Her eyes went wide, staring at Victoria. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

There was a long pause.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Julia snapped, her voice sharp and grating. “How could my husband do this to me? That’s complete nonsense.”

Victoria didn’t even blink. Her smile was mocking, almost taunting.

“Wow. You really had no clue?” Victoria said, pretending to be shocked. “The person who had you kidnapped wasn’t me. It was your loving husband.”

“Y–You… what did you just say?” Julia’s face turned ashen, her lips trembling as if she wanted to speak, but not a single word

came out.

“I said, the one who had you kidnapped was your husband, Darell,” Victoria said, each word landing like a hammer blow to Julia’s heart.

“You think I’d believe you?” Julia finally snapped out of it, her voice hoarse with rage. Stop slandering Darell. He would never do something like that.”

Victoria looked at Julia, who was still so trusting of her husband, and sneered, “Oh, really? Back when Angelica was around. you accused me of making things up about her too.

“But what happened? In the end, it turned out I wasn’t lying at all, was I?”

Julia was left speechless, a growing sense of panic creeping in as the truth started to unravel,

She just couldn’t accept it.

She couldn’t possibly believe that her own husband would kidnap her and torture her like this.

Victoria went on. “You’re probably wondering why Darell would do this to you.”

She paused, then continued, “Honestly, I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing your husband Darell never gave up on the idea of getting back into the Binder family and taking all their assets.

“But now he’s got no way out, so he’s going all in–sacrificing you to frame me, just so he can worm his way back into the Binder family.”

“Sacrificing me? what do you mean?” Julia’s eyes went wide with terror.

Victoria’s expression turned deadly serious as she drew her hand across her throat. “It means you could end up dead, and it’ll be Darell who does it.”

Julia shouted, “That’s impossible! Darell would never do that to me. You’re just making wild guesses. I’ve been with Darell for nearly thirty years. Why would I ever trust you over him?”

Victoria said calmly, “It’s totally normal you don’t believe me. But I can make you believe—just go along with this act. You don’t have to do anything special, just act clueless and keep doing what you always do.”

Julia murmured, “Act like before?”

Victoria nodded. “Exactly, just like before. I bet you still think I was the one who had you kidnapped, so after you got away, you’re definitely going to try and call me out at my birthday party tomorrow, aren’t you?”

Julia’s lips twitched, but she didn’t argue back.

That was exactly her plan.

Victoria watched Julia closely as she continued, “If I’m not mistaken, Darell’s going to stir up even more trouble at my birthday party tomorrow, just to make things between us even nastier.

“If you suddenly drop dead, I’ll be the number one suspect. And if I get nailed for your murder, Darell will finally have his chance to get back into the Binder family.”
